Ashleyjuliette is curious. Please share

I am curious as to what Your current boy name crushes are as of this week.
What names have got you intrigued, inspired, sentimental, or captivated??

[name_m]How[/name_m] often do your preferences change? It seems like one week I love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m], then [name_m]Tobiah[/name_m] morphs into the even more uncommon [name_m]Tobin[/name_m], only for the next month to be an admiration for [name_m]Quentin[/name_m], [name_m]Vince[/name_m], or something not my “typical” style such as [name_m]Jonah[/name_m].

I am also curious if any of you berries write or “hoard” names and combo ideas anywhere besides cyberspace. An example, I write in an actual spiral bound notebook to save name ideas and meanings.

Please share your thoughts on any or all of these topics

This week my boys name crush is Finnur and certain other variations.

My tried and true name crush is [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]. It’s my dad’s name and everytime I think about it my chest tightens up a little. The other names are always coming and going, though [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] has been on my list for a little while now.

What usually keeps my interest in a name is picturing a person with that name graduatiing high school. If I feel that same tight chest feeling, I keep it.

I hoard my names on an excel sheet, which I sort by Origin, and then alphabetize, and color code by how much it would actually be used on a scale of light green (likely to be used) to dark green (not likely to be used).
If you flip to the back of any of my notebooks from work, you’ll see any name that struck my fancy written in cursive and print.

These week, I’ve been crushing on more Irish/Gaelic names. [name_m]Declan[/name_m], [name_m]Brody[/name_m], [name_u]Rory[/name_u], [name_m]Seamus[/name_m], and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] especially. I also have been crushing on old Bible favorites, [name_m]Daniel[/name_m], [name_u]Noah[/name_u], [name_u]Micah[/name_u], and [name_m]Judah[/name_m], lately. [name_m]Declan[/name_m] and [name_m]Brody[/name_m] are on my list, [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] will probably be added, and I’m still tossing around [name_u]Rory[/name_u] and [name_m]Judah[/name_m] as options–I’m not sure where I’ll stand with them. I suppose we’ll see.

For the most part, the names I like don’t change much. I constantly evaluate names for potential future use, and I often reconsider names I’ve loved or hated before. Sometimes a name (like [name_m]Hugo[/name_m]) will grow on me until I come to love it. Other times I will love a name briefly before a) deciding it isn’t so great, b) having it rendered unusable for some reason, and/or c) realizing that while I’d love for someone else to give their child the name (like [name_m]Rafferty[/name_m]), I just cannot see using it myself. Of course, occasionally I love a name that my husband rejects (such as [name_m]Levi[/name_m] or [name_f]Persephone[/name_f]).

I’ve been crushing on Trygve the last 3 or so weeks. My name crushes usually last 4-8 weeks, and then I either find a new one or I realize it’s more than a crush. I use yarny for all of my writing, and I have a file for names as well. I love it because I can set up tags, to easily find that “type” of name if I’m in a hurry. I have page after page of combo ideas. I usually have my favorites in my signature, since I am brainstorming baby names. I want to be certain I love the names and won’t get sick of them, so I put them in the signature to see them every time I post. Seems to work.

I have done the cursive and print technique as well!! That is awesome. Thought I was odd when I first started doing it, and I began writing down names when I was ten or eleven. Then I would write my most favorite names in cursive…
I love the name [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m]. [name_m]Jeffrey[/name_m] [name_m]Nolan[/name_m] makes a good combo.

[name_u]Micah[/name_u] is a long time favorite of mine, as well as [name_u]Noah[/name_u]. I love so many biblical names…I like [name_u]Jude[/name_u] a lot, especially in the middle spot.

This week I’m intrigued by [name_u]Valo[/name_u]. I’ve been looking for a way to honor my FIL who is named [name_m]Valentin[/name_m] and came across [name_u]Valo[/name_u] on the boards. I’m still not entirely sold on it, but I’ve been digging names that end in o lately so who knows if this one will stick. I also came across Aidric and had to jot it down in my notebook.

@whirligig - are you seriously crushing on Finnur? I’m always happy to see it - have three of them in my family. My aunt’s husband - and their grandson, who’s named after them. And then a aunt on the other side has a stepson by that name. I adore Finnur.

My current crush this week is [name_m]Leo[/name_m]. I love it. Only thing is - I’ve known a [name_m]Leo[/name_m] since I was seven. If I named a boy [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - would people assume I named baby after him…

Unlike most Berries, I find it so much easier to love boys’ names. This week, I’m adoring [name_m]Ronan[/name_m], [name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u].

The boys name we are going to use for #1 has been fixed for an age now. I am still sometimes discovering boys names that intrigue me - but not enough to doubt our number one choice. Instead with girls names I am much more fickle. Still, boys names that have interested me recently are [name_m]Leander[/name_m], [name_u]Elliot[/name_u] and [name_m]Ivan[/name_m].

Lately I’ve been crushing big on [name_m]Gregory[/name_m] and [name_m]Alexander[/name_m]. No idea why, but I do know most of my boys names, sound Russian.

I love the name [name_m]Leo[/name_m]! I especially love [name_m]Lennox[/name_m] with [name_m]Leo[/name_m] as a nn.

I also seem to have an easier time with the boys names as well. It seems like girls names have the potential to be fussy, or cause me to be indecisive.
[name_m]Jonah[/name_m], [name_u]Quinn[/name_u], [name_u]Emmett[/name_u], and [name_u]Owen[/name_u] are wonderful names and some of my favorites.
However, I must admit that I prefer [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] on a girl.

Boys’ names are easier for me and more fun to discuss, so it’s a shame this forum isn’t nearly as popular as its girl name counterpart. Other than online I keep a word document of my favorites or a bank of names I like - it’s exhausting searching over again every time I’m looking for a new middle name or something.

The most recent combo I added to my list was [name_u]Reed[/name_u] [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] - I found [name_u]Reed[/name_u] through a web-comic I read and [name_m]Lorcan[/name_m] is a long time love. Currently I am pondering the following names:

[name_m]Soren[/name_m] - it’s grown on me lately in a huge way
[name_m]Garrett[/name_m] - [name_m]Long[/name_m] time love whose main issue over the years has been its popularity.
[name_m]Abram[/name_m] - Like the sound of it
[name_m]Damian[/name_m] - But may be too common for my tastes; hopefully I can convince myself to like it with the unusual nickname “[name_u]Dai[/name_u]”
[name_m]Indio[/name_m]/[name_m]Ingo[/name_m] - On the fence, but leaning towards liking
[name_u]Kit[/name_u] - but may need to be a short form for a long name - [name_m]Kendrick[/name_m] is already being used as a middle name so that won’t work, and I don’t really like [name_m]Christopher[/name_m]…
[name_m]Ruben[/name_m] - I like it but don’t know if I can picture it on my boy
[name_m]Roarke[/name_m] - Past love that’s coming back on my radar
[name_m]Silvan[/name_m] - Same as [name_m]Roarke[/name_m]
[name_m]Rune[/name_m] - Recently discovered this name and like it a lot
[name_m]Viggo[/name_m] - Need to find a good MN for this.
[name_u]Zen[/name_u] - love, but not sure if it’s usable.
[name_m]Heath[/name_m] - Same as [name_m]Ruben[/name_m]

One issue I’m running into is I love mostly short boy names but feel like a long MN flows best with them. However I don’t like many longer boy names, so…

Right now I’ve been loving [name_u]August[/name_u]…I always go back and forth with this name. It has a great meaning for me, because I spent my 3 year anniversary in St. [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] and I would love to get married there one day, it’s just special. But at the same time, I can’t see it on a guy…I’ve never met an [name_u]August[/name_u], but maybe if I did I could see it more on a person. I also don’t like any nicknames for it. Oh well…right now I’m loving it so who knows what I will love next!

Currently I’m crushing a little on Aurvandil and [name_m]Folke[/name_m]. I’ve tried to find a spot for [name_m]Folke[/name_m] in one of my combinations, but I’m still not completely certain on Aurvandil.

[name_m]Ronan[/name_m] and [name_m]Edmund[/name_m]. I love the possible nicknames [name_m]Edmund[/name_m] comes with, like [name_m]Ned[/name_m] or [name_u]Teddy[/name_u]; and [name_m]Ronan[/name_m] is just a rugged name in my opinion, and I like that a lot. [name_u]Niall[/name_u] and [name_m]Shepherd[/name_m] have been there for awhile too, in addition to the ever-current [name_m]Damian[/name_m] : )
