Ashy Asher

My husband is brown and when he gets dry skin he says to me, “I’m all ashy!!!”

[name]Do[/name] you think that since my child will be half Filipino that he will get teased if his name is [name]Asher[/name] and he gets dry skin? I can just see people saying, “Ashy [name]Asher[/name], Ashy [name]Asher[/name]!!!”

Am I being overly paranoid and need to realize that any name has potential for teasing if you think hard enough? We both really love the name [name]Asher[/name] and it honors my grandpa.

It’s a possibility, but honestly, any name has teasing potential. I was “Hairy [name]Mary[/name]” for all of middle school. If you love the name and it has meaning, use it!

Ashford is another option for boys I rather like. Kids don’t get dry skin as much as adults…I think your kid will be fine!

I agree any name can have teasing potential. I personally love [name]Asher[/name] and think you should use it. It’s only a slight posiblity he would be called that and there are much worse things to be called than "ashy’, imho.

I highly doubt that would happen. If you’re really concerned about it, just make sure you put lotion on him in the winter. LOL! Seriously, it’s hard enough to agree on a name you both love, don’t go out of your way looking for reasons not to use it. If some jerk wants to bully your kid, they’ll come up with something whether they have a name with “teasing potential” or not.

Thank you all for your reassurance and keeping it in perspective for me.

@mistressmary Oh no!!! Teasing is so terrible! I have to agree, all names can be teased. It makes me sad!

@rkrd Thank you for your suggestion of Ashford! My grandpa’s name was [name]Sherril[/name] so the “sher” part of [name]Asher[/name] is what drew me to the name. Ashford is so handsome though!!!

@kashed22 You’re right…much worse nick names than Ashy. Thanks for the reminder!

@thatkathryngirl [name]Love[/name] your humor  and I agree, [name]Asher[/name] is the only first name that we both [name]LOVE[/name]. It is a perfectly normal, decent name so I shouldn’t get into my head about it.

I know a dark skinned man named [name]Ashe[/name] and another named [name]Ashley[/name] and it’s not a big problem. I’m sure they’ve both had ashy skin in their life. I’m sure jokes and teasing have occasionally happened around Ashy [name]Ash[/name]. They both seem fine and like their names. I say don’t worry too, it’s a great name, not that big a deal, and also, he won’t be the first : D.
