My husband and I both like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] for a second girl. I like that it’s unusual, not too long or frilly but still feminine and (I think) sits well alongside sister [name_f]Juno[/name_f]. But I have had extremely mixed reactions to this name; for example, my mum really doesn’t like it.
What do you think? Also, any thoughts on nicknames other than [name_f]Aster[/name_f] (which I do quite like actually) or middle names for [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]? [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is my current favourite, but I’ve also been considering [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Evy[/name_f] (rhymes with heavy), [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Amabel[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Orla[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f].
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is one of my favorite names. Its gorgeous, feminime and strong and goes great with [name_f]Juno[/name_f] imo. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] is lovely.
I think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is fantastic with [name_f]Juno[/name_f]!
I like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Leonor[/name_f] from your list, I also like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Emmeline[/name_f].
I don’t know if it’s considered a nn for [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but I think I would use Astee.
You know, [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] has never really been on my radar, but I do find it a lovely name, so I can’t really tell you why! [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] is just enchanting, it’s quite beautiful. I’ll offer a few fresh middles, but to be honest, I think you have a winning bunch on hand as it is. Perhaps [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Cordelia[/name_f], [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Seraphine[/name_f], or [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Milena[/name_f]? Honestly, it’s a great first name to work with, because it doesn’t clash with many sounds.
Nicknames might be tricky, I think you’ll definitely end up going with a stretch or incorporating the middle name. If you like a somewhat masculine option, [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Hermione[/name_f] could potentially be contracted into [name_m]Asher[/name_m] (Astrid Hermione). That could be a unique solution. Other nicknames that might work well could include [name_u]Ashby[/name_u] (use a B middle name - [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Bellatrix[/name_f]? [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Beatrix[/name_f]? [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u]?), which would be adorable, or maybe [name_u]Scout[/name_u] as a more of a pet name. (it’s pretty flexible). Also, just thought of maybe [name_f]Birdie[/name_f]?
In a more simple realm, if you’re just looking for a quick short form of [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], I could see [name_m]Sid[/name_m], [name_u]Ash[/name_u], or even [name_f]Addie[/name_f] working. Oh, and if you’re really in the mood for a stretch, maybe [name_f]Belle[/name_f]? [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] means “divinely beautiful”, and [name_f]Belle[/name_f] means beautiful. You could even opt for [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_u]Bellamy[/name_u] (as mentioned earlier, and it really does sound nice) and call her [name_f]Belle[/name_f].
Sorry I rambled for, like, three paragraphs, but I hope you come up with a solution you are satisfied with! Best of luck! (I think I’ve grown to like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] more just by writing this post, haha.)
I find the name [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] to be exotic in a good way. (I know of one very intelligent lady in a science field with the name; although, I’ve never met her personally. I became familiar with the name while doing Norwegian genealogy.)
With the name [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], I like the idea of pairing it with a more classic or familiar middle name. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is just wonderful and flows beautifully. Other ideas:
@everwaiteing, thanks! I love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] [name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] too, and I totally agree about using a more traditional middle to balance it out.
@larkub101, I love the suggestions of [name_m]Asher[/name_m], [name_u]Ash[/name_u], [name_f]Addie[/name_f] (maybe even [name_f]Attie[/name_f]?) and [name_u]Scout[/name_u] as nicknames - very creative! [name_f]Glad[/name_f] you’re liking [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] even more
