Personally the first syllable deters me from either name. But I prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] between the two. I prefer [name_f]Esther[/name_f] to [name_u]Aster[/name_u]

As @Alix2016 said above, agreed. That first syllable really ruins it for me. We thought of [name_u]Aster[/name_u] naming our daughter but I much prefer [name_f]Esther[/name_f].

[name_u]Love[/name_u] [name_u]Aster[/name_u]! Looks spunky and feels sweet. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is too harsh for me. The first syllable of both make me hesitate, but I would probably use [name_u]Aster[/name_u] as a middle!

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is nice, but recently i’ve been loving [name_u]Aster[/name_u]!

[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] feels most ‘complete’ to me! I think the How to Train Your Dragon character is an excellent childhood reference (and potential teasing deterrent), too. Those books are wonderful.

I really love them both! Such strong meanings! [name_u]Aster[/name_u] reads as much more gender neutral to me, so I’d use that if I was aiming for a neutral name or naming a boy.
