Astrid v. Hilda or?

Which one do you like better and why? Does [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] immediately remind you of The Office, or can be misheard as ostrich and ashtray? Does [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] feel negative, or sounds old and ugly, reminding you of unpleasant kind of characters?

I like both of these names but there are negative associations to both of them which I am not sure if are just simply stupid and I should get over or if I should actually take into consideration.

I would love any other suggestions of Scandinavian names that are easy to pronounce in multiple countries. Thank you so much!

Hmm…

For me [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] feels dated she has a similar vibe to [name_f]Gertrude[/name_f] for me it’s the wrong kind of clunky the name doesn’t appeal. I prefer [name_f]Helena[/name_f] which has a similar sound but is prettier in my eyes.

I think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] definitely works she feels fashionable and whimsical. I think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] can definitely work and I don’t associate the name with anything negative. I think [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is a sweet choice.

Have you thought of [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f]? I think [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is gorgeous and fits the bill.

I love [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]! It’s a beautiful name! I think [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] could work but it doesn’t sound as youthful to me.

I like [name_f]Helena[/name_f] and considered it as well, but I didn’t like that everybody pronounces it completely different. I thought it was automatically Heh-leh-nah but several pronounces it Heh-lay-nah or Heh-lee-nah.

Astrid, I definitely agree with you in that it is whimsical, such a stunning name that I feel gets a lot of unwarranted distaste and jokes.

I do love [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] as well, I actually liked [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] more than [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] at first but then a flip switched in me. I will reconsider again though. Thank you so much for sharing so much of your opinion!

I love [name_f]Hilda[/name_f]! It’s sweet, old-fashioned, and intuitive. It feels ready for a comeback. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] isn’t as appealing to me, but it has plenty of great qualities.

I love these names!
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f], to me, is very light. I could see it on a young girl just as well as a professional.
[name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is due for a comeback in my opinion. It reminds me more of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] than it does [name_f]Helga[/name_f]. Plus I love “Hilly.”
Other names: [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f], [name_f]Sonja[/name_f], [name_f]Martha[/name_f], [name_f]Maud[/name_f], [name_f]Augusta[/name_f]

I adore [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] and don’t think it would be mistaken for either of those words. It’s strong and spunky whereas to me [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is dated and somewhat frumpy. That’s just me though; it’s a perfectly decent name. I love [name_f]Tilda[/name_f] as an alternative.

Thank you so much! I am glad both names are loved. I agree that [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is definitely more like [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] than [name_f]Helga[/name_f], would love to see it around more

Thank you for the other name suggestions! They are all lovely

Thank you so much for sharing your opinion! I am glad that you don’t mistaken [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] for those words, I thought I was the only one! I see comments on the name here and there about it being easily mistaken for other weird words or just constantly reminding them about the silly Office episode.
[name_f]Tilda[/name_f] is very pretty too!

Astrid is lovely. [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is an old lady name that should remain retired.

Astrid is a beautiful name! I have never watched The Office so I would never associate [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] with it. [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is lovely as well, I think it definitely deserves more love. It has a softer sound, which I like. Some other names you might consider are [name_f]Hedwig[/name_f], [name_f]Dagmar[/name_f], and [name_f]Marta[/name_f]. As others above me have said, I think [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] is also a lovely choice.

I like both names. I think they’d both work in 2020.

Astrid- I like the name, but a book I read once had a character with this name and was called a$s turd and ever since I’ve kind of remembered that when I hear the name. I do actually like it, despite that connotation. (I hope I’m not violating any community guidelines here, but I know [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] does have some harsh nicknames that could come about unfortunately)

Hilda- I also like this name. It kind of reminds me of [name_f]Matilda[/name_f], but a lot less popular. I feel like it might lend itself better to nicknames than [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but I think both are pretty fashionable choices for 2020.

I really like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] - it’s such a bold name. But the ‘ass’ sound could be difficult for a kid, I’m not sure.

Hilda is sweet, I think this is much more wearable and ready for a comeback! I think I even prefer nickname name [name_f]Hildy[/name_f]!

I prefer [name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] to [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (don’t like the ”ass” sound at the beginning :grimacing:). A good tweak on [name_f]Hilda[/name_f] is [name_f]Tilda[/name_f]. I find it has the same vibe and rhythm but fits a wider range of personalities than [name_f]Hilda[/name_f].
