[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is my second favourite girls name and I absolutely adore it. [name_f]Asta[/name_f] could always be a pet name or nickname for [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], though
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f].
Besides the fact that I’ve loved [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] ever since reading ‘White Oleander’, [name_f]Asta[/name_f] looks a bit wrong to me, likes it’s misspelled. [name_f]Aster[/name_f] (like the flower) or [name_f]Astra[/name_f] are also nice possibilities.
Honestly I [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] both. They are georgeous and probably new faves for me Someone suggested [name_f]Aster[/name_f] or [name_f]Astra[/name_f] which are both beautiful too

Asta is an lovely, underused gem. I like Astrid but prefer the Norwegian pronunciation AH-stree to the English one.
I prefer [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. So pretty and elegant.
I can almost see the appeal of [name_f]Asta[/name_f], but since the only [name_f]Asta[/name_f] I’ve “known” was the dog from the old Thin [name_m]Man[/name_m] movies, it feels a little furry to me.
I like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] a lot, what a beautiful name.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] hands down, by far, 200%.
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is wonderful. It has a spunky charm that [name_f]Asta[/name_f] could never reproduce. [name_f]Asta[/name_f] feels like a name someone would pick if they liked [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] but were scared to use a bold name and chose to ‘play it safe’. It pales in comparison.
I went with [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], in part because it feels more established and familiar to me, but it was a tough pick. I really like both. I do think that [name_f]Asta[/name_f] would work well as a nickname for [name_f]Astrid[/name_f].
I voted [name_f]Asta[/name_f] but I much prefer it spelt [name_f]Aster[/name_f]/Astor [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is lovely too!
I like [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] better myself.
If you want the a sound at the end, you could go with [name_f]Astrida[/name_f], which is more feminine if that’s what you prefer, so it’s a win-win. !
You might also like: [name_u]Asa[/name_u], [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], [name_f]Trude[/name_f], [name_f]Gretchen[/name_f]
Good luck! Both names are gorgeous honestly.
Thanks for your opinions, everyone
I’m favouring [name_f]Asta[/name_f] at the moment, because I think I would end up calling her that anyway and I don’t like the idea of giving her a name and then having her only use her nickname (although I go by my nickname!). There’s just something about [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] that I can’t get over… maybe the way it looks, maybe because it’s just a little too strong. I do love the meaning though. The main problem with [name_f]Asta[/name_f] is that the middle name I’ve chosen starts and ends in A, so it wouldn’t flow as well as it would with [name_f]Astrid[/name_f].
Are there any nicknames that could come from [name_f]Asta[/name_f]?
[name_f]Astra[/name_f] is out, as it’s the name of a car here. I do like [name_f]Aster[/name_f], but it’s a bit too similar to the name of a venue in my city (The Astor). One PP suggested [name_u]Aspen[/name_u], which I really love, but unfortunately baby’s surname rules out using any place names.
I’m not familiar with [name_f]Asta[/name_f] but it has a bit of a spunky yet whimsical vibe that I love. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is great as well.
I don’t know how helpful this is, but I have a family member called [name_f]Asta[/name_f] who is affectionately called [name_f]Asti[/name_f] (a-stee).
Ooh that’s cute! Thanks!
[name_u]Baby[/name_u] arrived on [name_f]Wednesday[/name_f] and we ended up going with [name_f]Asta[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
Congrats! That’ a beautiful name.
Congratulations! Beautiful name
