Hello, Berries!! We are finding out the sex of our baby on Tuesday, but everyone thinks that our little one is a boy! Our plan is to have a few options ready when we go to the hospital and choose when we meet our little one!
Girls’ names have been much easier for my husband and me to agree on options. We seem to be pickier with boys. We have a few that we like, but none of them feel right for reasons I put below. I’ll also include some of the girls’ names we like to help with suggestions. I’ll also include some names that are no-go’s.
The baby’s last name ends in -land, so any names that end in -on/-an/-en/-lan tend to sound a little too rhymey.
We appreciate all of your help and suggestions, thank you!!
Names we like, but don’t love:
Finn–I LOVE this one, but my husband thinks it’s a little too short and choppy sounding
Archer–Husband loves Archie or Arch, but not fully sold on Archer as the full name
Harrison–Opposite of Archer. Husband loves Harrison, but hates Harry as a nickname. I suggested Sonny as a nickname, but he’s not sold.
Thank you! We finally feel good about our girls’ list, which makes me feel like it’s definitely going to be a boy haha.
I love some of your suggestions! [name_m]Roman[/name_m], [name_u]Tate[/name_u], and [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], especially. But my husband has vetoed all of these names already. He’s such a laid-back person, I never would’ve guessed he’d be so opinionated on names! Obviously, I’m happy he is, but he can’t really tell me what he doesn’t like about each name he vetoes, which makes it a little harder. I’ll run some of these past him again, sometimes he changes his mind when we hears them for a second time (He did that on [name_f]Freya[/name_f] and Margot!)
Does [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] have any charm for you? It’s perhaps more substantial than [name_u]Finn[/name_u], and is handsomely roguish.
Have you considered simply [name_m]Arch[/name_m] as a name?
I love your suggestion of [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. It’s such a great name.
Here are a few more suggestions:
[name_m]Pierce[/name_m]
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m]
[name_m]Shepherd[/name_m]
[name_m]Truett[/name_m]
[name_u]Dane[/name_u]
[name_u]Spencer[/name_u]
Thank you for your suggestions! I like [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], but he wasn’t a fan. Does [name_m]Arch[/name_m] seem substantial enough to stand on its own as a name?
I’m really hoping I can convince of [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] as a nickname for [name_m]Harrison[/name_m]. We wouldn’t be using a nickname often, it’d be more to prevent [name_u]Harry[/name_u] from being used, but I just think [name_u]Sonny[/name_u] is sweet.
I will run [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] passed him, I feel like that might work!!
I actually think [name_m]Arch[/name_m] would be a super cool name. I get some nature vibes from it, like Arches National [name_u]Park[/name_u]. It sounds strong and distinct.
Oh, that’s a connection that I didn’t think of! [name_m]Arch[/name_m] [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] is a lovely combo, too. It’s growing on me, for sure!! Thank you!
Oh! I hadn’t thought of [name_u]Davis[/name_u]. That’s lovely! Ugh, except my aunt just went through a very nasty divorce and his name is [name_m]Dave[/name_m]. I wonder if that’s too close for her. I will have to have my mom investigate without being too conspicuous haha.
Finn or Archer get me vote, although it sounds like there are some barriers for each, at least for your partner. I don’t mind Harrison either although unlike your partner, I prefer just Harry. For a girl, I adore Margot and Freya. Both were on my shortlist for my daughter
Could you use a longer version of Finn to appease your partner, and then use it as a nickname? Say Finley, Finnegan, Finnian, Finbar etc?

I’m going to throw in [name_m]Finlo[/name_m], in case you like it, as a less choppy option for [name_u]Finn[/name_u].
A few others
[name_u]Sullivan[/name_u]
[name_u]Edison[/name_u]
[name_m]Hamish[/name_m]
[name_u]Tristan[/name_u]
[name_u]Parker[/name_u]
[name_u]Wilder[/name_u]
[name_u]Sterling[/name_u]
[name_u]Finn[/name_u] is a top name on my list too! I like short names but a longer alternative could be [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u], [name_m]Finnbarr[/name_m], [name_m]Finlo[/name_m], [name_u]Finley[/name_u], or [name_m]Finnian[/name_m].
How do you feel about [name_u]Asher[/name_u] instead of [name_u]Archer[/name_u]?
Other names with a similar feel:
[name_m]Fletcher[/name_m] (I know it’s been said, but I love it!)
[name_u]Alder[/name_u]
[name_u]Ari[/name_u]
[name_u]Orion[/name_u]
Alden/Eldon
[name_m]Walden[/name_m]
[name_m]Warren[/name_m]
[name_m]Harrison[/name_m] isn’t my person style, it feels a bit too mainstream for me.
What about [name_u]Finley[/name_u]? You could use [name_u]Finn[/name_u] as a nickname still but give your husband something a little longer if he wanted to call him Finely!
You have a lot of great names on here! All those girl names are super cute.
Finn-Aw, I love [name_u]Finn[/name_u]! It’s so cheeky & sporty & friendly. I love the short simple polished look of it. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you guys like [name_m]Finnian[/name_m], [name_u]Finnegan[/name_u], [name_m]Phineas[/name_m] nn [name_u]Finn[/name_u]? [name_u]Or[/name_u] maybe [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] instead?
Archer-Archie is cute, but I do feel like it’s too cutesy on its own. [name_u]Archer[/name_u] feels more of a full name.
Harrison-I think it’s nice. Maybe a little clunky for my tastes. I wouldn’t use it if you hate [name_u]Harry[/name_u], but what about [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] nn Hank?!
@RosiePosey@esita@babynamesrus@wilkie8709@WhiteGardenia@bjoy@canyonmoon28@Ruthvd@evanever@AmyVermeersch Thank you for all of your lovely suggestions!! We landed on [name_u]Miles[/name_u], [name_u]Wesley[/name_u], [name_u]Luca[/name_u], and [name_u]Callum[/name_u] as our favorites! We’re thinking [name_m]Harrison[/name_m] or [name_u]August[/name_u] as the middle name. Let’s hope these don’t change too much until [name_u]October[/name_u] when we meet our little one. If not, I know where to go for more help haha! I appreciate you all taking the time to suggest names and offer advice!
