I’ll be 34 weeks tomorrow with our fourth baby and we’re team green, so we don’t know the gender. We are leaning toward a boy this time. We know [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] will be one of the middle names as its meaning is relevant for us. All of our kids have two middles. DH wants [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is my dad’s name (though he goes by his middle name) and we like [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] because dh is an attorney, a literature buff, and has had a bit of his own publicized and scandalous adventures in the courtroom. We’d call him [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] and not [name_m]Thomas[/name_m]. [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] gets a thumbs up from me as a middle name, but I’m really stuck on the name [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] as a first and go by [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] or [name_u]Toby[/name_u]. Our other son also has a Biblical name and I’ve always been partial to them. The meaning of “God is good,” also holds significance as we’ve maneuvered the aforementioned issues in our lives. I’m fine with [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], but he’s really digging his heels in on [name_m]Thomas[/name_m], go by [name_m]Atticus[/name_m]. The slight popularity of [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] is also a strike against that route for me, though I do love the meaning it holds for dh.
Other names we’ve seriously considered are [name_m]Daniel[/name_m] and Chapman. Chapman is a really old family name on my paternal grandfather’s side and I do like the nn Chap.
Personally, I’d go for [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u].
Going by your middle name isn’t anything too weird, but it can be confusing and I don’t see the point in it in this case. With [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] you can still honor your dad and everyone will immediately know your son by the name he actually goes by. You can save [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] for another kid. [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] is a biblical name too, despite not having a religious meaning.
Or, if you’d consider it, [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u]. That way your husband gets to use a name he likes more than you ([name_m]Atticus[/name_m]) and you get to use a name you like more than him ([name_m]Tobias[/name_m]) and it’s fair.
I 100% agree with @emmievis
Personally I love [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] nn [name_u]Toby[/name_u] or [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] nn [name_u]Kit[/name_u].
Although I really think it boils down to which honor names are the most important for you to keep for this child? It sound like you have narrowed it down to a really good honor name for your father, your family, your husband and your God. I think [name_m]Atticus[/name_m] [name_m]Tobias[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] is a really good compromise.
We’re 38 and 41 and soon to have 4 kids. We’re done haha.
I agree with it being unnecessary to go by a mn in this case. Our oldest goes by his mn because his first is my dh’s name and it seems like no matter how hard we try to get some folks to call him by his name he goes by, they just don’t. He’s 14, so it gets on his nerves, but so does everything. My dad, my brother, and one of my sisters all go by their mn’s, so that in itself isn’t a foreign concept. But as a name in general, I’m not a big fan of [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] :-/. I love my dad, though haha.
No, we really didn’t do “sibset” names. My first two shared an identical cadence with syllables, but #3 broke that mold. Numbers 1 and 3 both end in the “a” sound, but #3 goes exclusively by a nn or as a two part name, neither of which contain the “a” ending. Number 1 is about half and half going by a nn or not, which also affects the “a” ending. None of them have similar vibes or origins. The only true common link is that they all have three names, but picked out of a lineup, a person would never suspect the same parents named my kids haha.
