I have always loved [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f]. It’s usable where I live, sounds beautiful imo but [name_m]Iam[/name_m] a bit unsure of two things.
What kind of vibe do you get from [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f]? Does it sounds to you posh?
Also any (creative) nicknames ideas for her? I can’t find something I like and [name_m]Iam[/name_m] a big nickname fan. Looking for something besides [name_f]Attie[/name_f], [name_u]Tallie[/name_u] and [name_f]Lala[/name_f].
I really like the sound of it, personally, but don’t you live in Greece? Maybe that’s just me who’s made the connection, but it just makes me think of the word ‘ατάλαντη’ That said - it feels elegant but not too posh, and has a mystical, ethereal vibe! I like [name_f]Talya[/name_f] and [name_u]Allie[/name_u] for nicknames. You could also do [name_f]Tala[/name_f] and [name_f]Lana[/name_f]!
that’s fair, i hadn’t thought of the town! it’s not the end of the world anyway (worst case scenario, there’ll be a few dumb jokes), i just thought i’d mention it
I’m so sorry, but I absolutely didn’t even think about the mythological connection or ethereal vibes. [name_f]My[/name_f] first mega superficial thought was that I would think the parents got engaged (or something special like that) in [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f], so they wanted to name their baby after that place. But then they made a spelling mistake, but theeen they thought it would make the name even more cool and less trendy, so they decided to keep it as it is. Uuhh, Im sorry again!
In [name_u]America[/name_u], it’s not super usable as a previous user commented. [name_m]Even[/name_m] though I know the history and etymology as the name, it would just be perceived as a misspelling of [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f] (which in itself would be a really out-there name).
If it is usable where you are though, I do think it has a nice sound. I picture a really worldly, intelligent, friendly person. It has a certain elegance without being too frilly.
Some nicknames could be [name_f]Lani[/name_f] / [name_u]Lannie[/name_u], [name_f]Lana[/name_f] / [name_f]Lanna[/name_f], [name_f]Annie[/name_f] / [name_f]Anna[/name_f], [name_u]Ali[/name_u] / [name_u]Allie[/name_u].
I love [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] It’s powerful and beautiful, full of distinction but with familiarity too. There is maybe a touch of ‘poshness’ to it, but it has a rugged, cool feel that stops it feeling fussy.
[name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] is a beautiful name, with great mythological origins!
It doesn’t sound too “posh” to me at all, although it does have quite a grand and impressive ring to it… it’s a name that sounds strong & brave!
I do think many would confuse it with “Atlanta”, especially on first glance. This just kind of comes with the territory, I’d say. Other associations might be [name_u]Atlantis[/name_u], and the Atlantic [name_u]Ocean[/name_u].
The first nickname that came to mind for me was [name_u]Lannie[/name_u]. You could also maybe use Lantie / [name_m]Lanty[/name_m] / Lanta / Attia?
The biggest problem IMO would probably be that at a quick glance too many people would call her [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f] or Atlantic but it’s a solid name!
I feel like its plenty usable! [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] is a beautiful, melodious name that definitely deserves more attention. I actually went to school with an [name_f]Atlanta[/name_f], who got called [name_f]Atalanta[/name_f] a ton, and we grew up in the US south. It’s an unusual name for sure, but I don’t think that’s much of an issue, and I’m sure Greece is very different from where I am as far as that goes.
A few nickname ideas (that I second(;
