After years of name obsessing… I finally get to name our baby girl!!! My husband and I have narrowed it down to [name_f]Athena[/name_f] or [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. MN will be [name_u]Kay[/name_u], after my mother. Last name is 1 syllable, starts with T. I worry about [name_f]Athena[/name_f] becoming more popular… I was surprised to see that it was in the 200’s last year. What do you guys think of both of these names???
I like both quite a lot. [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] rather reminds me of petrichor. That’s not a bad thing, I suppose. I think I have a slight preference for [name_f]Athena[/name_f].
I like both but I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. [name_f]Petra[/name_f] may pick up steam in the next couple years thanks to the Ender’s Game series (she is a pretty cool character). And I honestly don’t think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is all that common right now even though its rated around 250 or so. I have only ever met TWO Athenas.
I like both. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is more recognizable and will probably never be mega popular, which is such a great combination. [name_f]Petra[/name_f] may get mispronounced and generally sort of gaped at from time to time, but is so fresh and has such a nice sound. I think I like [name_f]Petra[/name_f] more, but if I was naming my own child out of those two choices I would probably end up going with [name_f]Athena[/name_f].
I do really like [name_f]Athena[/name_f], but I’m partial to [name_f]Petra[/name_f], my best friends name is [name_f]Petra[/name_f] she has never had any problems with the pronunciation etc. They are both lovely names though, I don’t think you can go wrong.
My name is [name_f]Athena[/name_f] so I will vote for my own name :D. I live in Belgium and I’ve never really met anyone with my name, people are always surprised when I say my name, but many say they love it! I’ve always enjoyed having a more unusual name amongst the many [name_f]Stephanie[/name_f]'s and [name_u]Kim[/name_u]'s in my class.
[name_m]Both[/name_m] are gorgeous options. I was going to say though that [name_f]Petra[/name_f] is slightly more unusual these days - I know two little Athenas and I believe it’s climbing the popularity charts. However, I do think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] flows better than [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u].
I love the name [name_f]Petra[/name_f]! [name_f]Petra[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u] does not have the best flow, but that is not a deal breaker for me.
I like [name_f]Petra[/name_f] better, but if I were you I would choose [name_f]Athena[/name_f] [name_u]Kay[/name_u]. It flows better. I can see [name_f]Athena[/name_f] gaining in popularity, but mega-popular? No way. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about that.
Oooh! What great names…what a corundum! [name_m]Both[/name_m] are fantasticly uncommon but I’m going to go with [name_f]Petra[/name_f] on this one. She sounds a like a spunky, literary heroine of the best stories.
Whilst I don’t particularly like the name [name_f]Petra[/name_f], especially in comparison to the feminine [name_f]Athena[/name_f], I would suggest that you have a look at the different variations of [name_f]Petra[/name_f]. My name is a variation of [name_f]Petra[/name_f] yet it has in my opinion the [name_f]Athena[/name_f] ‘vibe’ - my name is [name_f]Petrea[/name_f] (peh-TREE-ah) - shares the EE sound with [name_f]Athena[/name_f], and there is no way that [name_f]Petrea[/name_f] will be a popular name soon! I just thought I’d give you that option too when deciding between these two wonderful names (:
All the best!!! (:
