Athena or Phaedra?

I got this awesome idea for a book, but I can’t decide between [name_f]Athena[/name_f] or phaedra([name_f]Fay[/name_f]-druh) for the main character, especially since they both go with [name_m]Christian[/name_m](mostly known as CC) as sibling names. They were my choices because [name_m]Christian[/name_m] has greek origins, and I thought it would be nice to have another greek name. I can’t think of any nicknames for either of them except thena and fey/phae.

I also don’t know of another nicknames for [name_m]Christian[/name_m] that a little sister might give,or a cute name an older brother might call his little sister. The characters have a 14-15 year age gap, with their ages being 12/13 and 27/28. So basically I need a nickname someone might give his baby sister.

It’s just so confusing, and I don’t want the idea to slip away. If it helps, the characters have similar personalities, and they’re both quite hyper and exciteable, but the younger sister is very shy.

Thank you in advance

I think that [name_f]Athena[/name_f] will work better, but what is the story plot? Maybe that will help.

The general plot idea is the main characters parents are going to work in another country, and they don’t feel it would be best for her to go with them,so they send her over to [name_u]America[/name_u] from [name_f]England[/name_f] to stay with her brother, who’s in a band, and it’s basically about that.

Now I’m definitely thinking [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] nickname [name_f]Fey[/name_f] or Phae. I hope that helps!

[name_m]Don[/name_m]'t go with [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f]. I’m just going to tell you, a lot of readers aren’t going to know how to pronounce it. It’ll just confuse them majorly. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is a great name, and you can have Thena or [name_f]Thea[/name_f] as a nickname.
In regards to your other question, [name_u]Chris[/name_u] is the obvious nickname for [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. [name_m]Ian[/name_m] could work to, I suppose.
Other than that, nicknames based on appearance or attitude or nicknames based off middle names work. Or cutesy names that could’ve been made up when they were younger–like if [name_m]Christian[/name_m] called his little sister [name_f]Rosy[/name_f] from when she was little for some reason and he still does from old habit. That sort of thing. You can work a story around the nickname–that gives your story more depth. I know I have plenty of nicknames that I don’t like that my parents gave me when I was little that they still call me, [name_u]Boo[/name_u] for one. Real people usually have little background stories like that. It makes it more realistic.
[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helped!

Definetely [name_f]Athena[/name_f].

[name_f]Athena[/name_f] and [name_m]Christian[/name_m] strikes me as an odd pairing. I’d go with [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f].
Nicknames for [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] could be: Phae/[name_f]Fae[/name_f], Fade, Dra
Nicknames for [name_f]Athena[/name_f], if you do choose that, could be: [name_f]Atty[/name_f], [name_f]Athie[/name_f], Thena, [name_f]Thea[/name_f], [name_f]Atha[/name_f], Thenie/Theenie, Thee

I think that [name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] sounds better with [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. The nick name Phae seems especially fitting to be because of your description of her. I could see a shy littler girl being referred to as Phae much easier than [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is a very powerful name in my opinion; it fits someone with a strong will and confidence.

well, first, I don’t think either really “goes” with [name_m]Christian[/name_m]. What people are going to think of when they read [name_m]Christian[/name_m] isn’t “oh, what a cool Greek name” it’s “oh, I guess his parents are Christians”

[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is a nice name, and I can completely imagine parents having a different naming style 12 years after their 1st child was born, so it doesn’t bother me that they are stylistically different.

[name_f]Phaedra[/name_f] is far more unusual than [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. [name_f]Fay[/name_f] is a great nn though, so if you’re really looking for that then I think it could work.

Sidenote based on the plot…does the brother have a job? I find it slightly hard to believe that parents would send their 12 year old daughter across the world to live with a twenty-something guy who’s “in a band”. Not exactly known for being responsible and parent-like, as well as able to cart a kid around in the mornings and afternoons if they’re playing till 3 AM. [name_m]Just[/name_m] sayin! Sounds like fantasy rather than reality.
