Athena or Sophia?

I love both names! Both have beautiful meanings and origins. :slightly_smiling_face: They have entirely different vibes. I will say that even though [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is incredibly popular, no one has really mentioned that [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is pretty popular as well— [name_f]Athena[/name_f] was 105 in 2019.

I’m going to say the incredibly unhelpful It really depends. I love both names so much. They are such different styles that I’d say it’s really up to you and which style you prefer.

I know [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is my NB middle name, but I’m going to have to say I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]— it has special meaning to me and I’d say it’s more my style.

I would go with [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. Both are really beautiful, but [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is incredibly popular. I knew three Sophias (maybe more), all in the same 100-person private middle school.

Plus, the Greek goddess of wisdom, battle strategy, crafts, and cleverness is a pretty cool namesake.

I’d go with [name_f]Athena[/name_f] because it’s way less popular

What are your opinions for [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] nicknames, Safi and Iso?

I like both I guess a name in-between them both would be [name_f]Thea[/name_f] which I think is lovely. But I’d probably go for [name_f]Athena[/name_f] out of the two.

I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. I suppose [name_f]Athena[/name_f] feels a little try-hard to me, and I just prefer the sounds in [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. The [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] I grew up with went by Soso as a child. The [name_f]Athena[/name_f] in my town was known almost exclusively as [name_f]Addie[/name_f].

My actual favorite option would be [name_f]Sophie[/name_f], which I think is somehow both cuter and chicer than [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Would you consider [name_f]Sophronia[/name_f]? I know that it’s way more unusual than either of these options, but I do like it.

I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]…such a beautiful name but so popular!
[name_f]Athena[/name_f] is nice too!

Both are so beautiful. [name_f]My[/name_f] favorite is [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] but it is so so popular. I think [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is gorgeous and super unique!

Love [name_f]Attie[/name_f]!

Sophia feels a bit dull IMO. I prefer [name_f]Athena[/name_f].

I would go with whichever one you truly love. [name_m]Just[/name_m] because [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is less popular doesn’t guarantee no one else will have that name. A kindergarten class at my school has 2 girls named [name_f]Athena[/name_f] and no one named [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. For what it’s worth, I prefer [name_f]Sophia[/name_f].

100% [name_f]Athena[/name_f]

Athena, hands down!! [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is lovely but extremely common. So [name_f]Athena[/name_f] is unique, plus it has such a strong, independent woman vibe due to the Greek goddess of reason, wisdom, and war

I’d say [name_f]Athena[/name_f] because imo [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is quite a boring name…

Athena and [name_f]Iris[/name_f], for sure. They’re both goddesses, so they have that cute little connection that’s not too obvious. Agreeing with previous posters, [name_f]Sophia[/name_f] is so common it just doesn’t feel in the same league as [name_f]Iris[/name_f].

Athena, because of its uniqueness compared to [name_f]Sophia[/name_f]. Both are beautiful, however
