Athénais

I’ve had both [name_f]Adelais[/name_f] and [name_f]Athena[/name_f] on my list for a little while but neither has sat right with me because
a) I like other [name_m]Ad[/name_m]- names like [name_f]Ada[/name_f] in the fn spot and my [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Adelais[/name_f] combo (although I love it) forces me to rule these out
b) I really like [name_f]Athena[/name_f] but it has always felt like it doesn’t fit with my other names - it feels almost TOO spunky and bohémien in comparaison to the others which have a more pared back feel.

I came across Athénais and I feel like it could be a perfect combination of the two and solve these issues. Wdyt? Is it too much? Too out there? It would be used only as a middle so do you think the accent and prononciation would be an issue?

I’ve been testing out [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] Athénais, [name_f]Mona[/name_f] Athénais, [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] Athénais… which one do you prefer? Is there anything else you feel works better?

I’ve seen Athénais around before, so it doesn’t feel too weird. It’s also not too different from the slightly-more-familiar [name_f]Anais[/name_f]. Its pronunciation and accent mark shouldn’t be too much of an issue, as it’s a middle name. I prefer [name_f]Mona[/name_f] Athénais, as it feels very Renaissance for some reason.

Athenais is intriguing! I quite like it. [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] [name_f]Athenais[/name_f] is gorgeous

I think I’m leaning towards [name_f]Mona[/name_f] Athénais too… Tbh I’ve already come to terms with the fact that my family etc are going to think my names are out there. I know that on Nameberry, as things go, Athénais is relatively normal but irl I forget that things are going to seem even more unusual so I just need a reality check sometimes haha

I love athénais, and it’s been on my list for a while!
in french, it would usually be athénaïs (ah-tay-nye-ees), but I would probably end up just saying ath-uh-nace in english. it depends how far you want to enforce it.
I like maxine athénais a lot. mona athénais is cool too, but cosette athénais (though cosette is magical) feels really french.
I already love clio mazarine, but clio athénaïs is just perfect!

I’m [name_u]French[/name_u] speaking (as you can probably tell by my temperamental [name_u]French[/name_u] autocorrect that décides to put accents on everything when I’m writing in [name_f]English[/name_f] haha) but most people around me aren’t so i feel like it would probably end up being a weird hybrid like ah-te-nay. I agrée it would be lovely with [name_f]Clio[/name_f] but [name_f]Clio[/name_f] [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] is hère for good haha. But can you imagine a [name_f]Clio[/name_f] [name_f]Mazarine[/name_f] & [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] Athénais as sisters? I always feel that although [name_f]Clio[/name_f] is my ultimate favourite, it may be slightly out of kilter with my other names?

I would think it was pronounced like [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-theen-aze. Like rhyming with mayonnaise? I cant get past the thought of mayonnaise now…

Just out of interest what part of the world are you in?

Hello from the USA👋

Ah cool! The different pronunciations really interest me. I feel like hopefully because I live between [name_f]England[/name_f] and [name_f]France[/name_f] the mayonnaise issue will hopefully not be a thing!

Athénais is so pretty! Id probably pronounce it the same as Athénaïs (the character in Versailles!) since thats the pronunciation im familiar with, im not sure if thats actually how you would say it! I think its lovely, and [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] Athénais is wonderful.

I love Athénaïs! It’s been on my list a long time as a middle. I would love to see it used! Since you’re also considering it as a middle name, I definitely wouldn’t worry about accent and pronunciation issues.

Out of those three names, I think I like [name_f]Cosette[/name_f] Athénais best. I really like [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] as well. I feel like something like these combos would work too if you’re looking for more ideas:

Lilou Athénais / [name_f]Milou[/name_f] Athénais
[name_f]Runa[/name_f] Athénais
[name_f]Oona[/name_f] Athénais
[name_f]Ingrid[/name_f] Athénais

Ooh thanks! I really like [name_f]Lilou[/name_f] and [name_f]Milou[/name_f] and I’m also feeling [name_f]Runa[/name_f]. Good suggestions!

Athénais is very interesting and it seems like it is great for you! Although I’d say Athénais is even more spunky and bohémien than [name_f]Athena[/name_f]. If you’re just using it as a middle name I don’t think spelling and pronouncation will be an issue.

I prefer [name_f]Maxine[/name_f] Athénais. I think [name_f]Willa[/name_f] Athénais would also work very well.
