Atlas or Ever?

So I asked this question over on Reddit and my wife and I got pretty well lit up haha. The consensus was Atlas by a mile, but the real winner was neither name as most hated both names and some even sought fit to cast aspersions as to our future as parents simply because we like both names, which I thought was a bit much. The background: my wife and I just found out we are having a boy. My #1 name choice for a boy has been Atlas and hers has been Ever. I actually love Ever as a name and I am the one that initially suggested it but it was my choice if we were having a girl and I never really saw it as a boy’s name even though I know the name is unisex. The more I sit with Ever as a boy’s name however, the more I start to come around to it. Both my wife and I are tall, and our surname begins with “A” so I think I was initially drawn to Atlas as a name because I felt it would fit a kid that will probably grow up to be tall and I like the alliteration of the name but now I am truly torn between Atlas and Ever. Also as an aside, since this seems to come up as well, we’ve ruled at Everett or Everest as alternatives because people close to us have used that name for their newborns.

Lastly, middle name/nickname suggestions also welcome. Thanks all!

Nothing like being mean to strangers on the Internet. Great choices. I love [name_u]Ever[/name_u] for a girl so I guess I’d lean [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] for a boy. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] Hathorne or [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Vaughn[/name_u]?

I’ve heard Reddit can be particularly harsh with non-traditional names, so unfortunately that’s not a surprise. Hate that you dealt with that!

Have y’all considered [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as a first and middle? I think that flows well (better than the other way around) and would include both of the options easily! It isn’t “descriptive” either even with them both being word names so that’s a pro!

[name_u]Love[/name_u] both names, but I can see [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as the coolest sister for another baby too.

[name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Quinn[/name_u] is an awesome suggestion from someone.

I don’t advocate for being rude or mean but I will say I’m not really a fan of either name. Ones a book visually to me and the other makes me want to say the word “after”. But…. That’s just personal bit my style. If I had to choose between the two I’d say [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]

I prefer softer names on boys so I would probably go with [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. [name_u]Ever[/name_u] [name_u]James[/name_u] would be super cute!

As for discussing names on other boards…especially reddit. [name_u]Ive[/name_u] learned just dont. If its not [name_u]Liam[/name_u], [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Sophia[/name_f], [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] or [name_u]Noah[/name_u] it gets torn to shreds and mocked mercilessly.

Appreciate the input!

You pretty much nailed the vibe on Reddit, haha

I prefer [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and I love a good alliterative name.
[name_u]Ever[/name_u] is sweet but there are a lot of little Everly/Everleigh/Everley’s who likely use that as a nickname too. Not necessarily negative, just something to consider.

I LOVE [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] and [name_u]Ever[/name_u]! They’re both on my baby name list. Usually I would say I prefer [name_u]Ever[/name_u], but I’m a sucker for alliteration, so my vote goes to [name_u]Atlas[/name_u]. Seconding the suggestion of [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Ever[/name_u]!

First: welcome to NB! You’ll hopefully have a much better experience here!

Second: congrats!

Third: I think [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] suits a boy better so perhaps save [name_u]Ever[/name_u] if you want to have more children? If not, maybe his name could be [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_m]Everson[/name_m] A_____?

Other Middle suggestions (without knowing your preferences on names):

I also thought of [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. I like both names. You could also save [name_u]Ever[/name_u] for a future daughter.

[name_u]Welcome[/name_u] and congratulations! Reddit can be a difficult place to get gentle advice and opinions sometimes

I like [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] more than [name_u]Ever[/name_u]. would it be possible to use [name_u]Ever[/name_u] as a middle name? [name_u]Atlas[/name_u] [name_u]Ever[/name_u] feels like a very cool combination that flows really nicely!
