Adaline I have always always loved but have not added to my list because I thought it was too popular. I just recently noticed that it is not in the top 1,000. DH likes the name which makes me love it. So my first question is how do you pronounce the name. I say Add-ah-line but I have read a post where she said it was Add-ah-lynn. I think Adalyn is how the second pronunciation should be spelled but I do not like Adalyn. It is too popular and reads not nearly as pretty as Adaline. second: will she be end up being called Addy just like all of the Addison’s that will be in her class?
And one more thing I also LOVE Attie but can Attie be short for?
I can’t wait to hear what you have to say thank you for your help!
[name]Adaline[/name] is really pretty! Its funny, you sort of think a name is REALLY popular because its mentioned on Nameberry a lot (sometimes.)
Have you considered the spelling [name]Adeline[/name]? I like both of the spellings :).
I don’t really like [name]Adalyn[/name] at all! I prefer [name]Adaline[/name]/[name]Adeline[/name].
I used to pronounce it [name]Add[/name]-ah-leen. Now I realised… Oh…right…'duh.
She might end up being call [name]Addy[/name]. But, if you introduce her as her full name, or her preferred nickname, then they will get the idea that her name is NOT [name]Addy[/name].
Nicknames for [name]Adaline[/name]: (some may be a stretch, but they’re cute )
[name]Delly[/name]/Dally
[name]Dell[/name]/[name]Dal[/name]
[name]Ellie[/name]/[name]Ali[/name]
[name]Ada[/name] prn. [name]Ah[/name]-dah, not like [name]Add[/name]-ah
I love [name]Adeline[/name]! I think it looks more “proper” than [name]Adaline[/name], for some reason. I say it with the “line” ending, too.
[name]Attie[/name] is cute! Maybe as a nn for [name]Autumn[/name]? Or [name]Agatha[/name]/[name]Agathe[/name], [name]Natalie[/name]/[name]Natalia[/name], [name]Athalia[/name], [name]Matilda[/name], [name]Beatrix[/name]/[name]Beatrice[/name]/[name]Beata[/name]/Beatriu, [name]Katerina[/name], etc.?
I like the [name]Adeline[/name] spelling best, as well.
I like [name]Ash[/name]'s suggestions for [name]Attie[/name] - [name]Athalie[/name] (variation of [name]Athalia[/name], rhymes with [name]Natalie[/name]) is another idea. There’s [name]Atalanta[/name], which may not be exactly your style, but it’s an idea. [name]Atlee[/name] is a more unisex suggestion.
I like [name]Adeline[/name] prn “add eh leen” but I think it’s either or and “add eh line” works just as well.
I’ve never heard of [name]Adaline[/name], it’s not on behindthename or any French [name]Adeline[/name] baby entries so I’m not sure if they’re related but maybe someone has more info in it? The name perplexes me but either way I don’t care for it, it looks like someone heard [name]Adeline[/name] but didn’t know how to spell it.
That’s great that you love the name and your husband likes it too. It’s very classy and classic. Although - to be honest I’d not seen [name]Adaline[/name] - only [name]Adeline[/name]. I have a friend with that name. Everyone pronounces it [name]Ad[/name] -ah-line. Like [name]Madeline[/name] without the M. Most people call her [name]Adi[/name]. Her husband and some friends call her [name]Adeline[/name] though.
[name]Love[/name] [name]Adaline[/name]! I certainly pronounce it “add-ah-line” because it is the same idea as [name]Caroline[/name]. And I would never see [name]Caroline[/name] and pronounce it like [name]Carolyn[/name].
[name]Adalyn[/name] i consider super trendy and one of those names parents use to try to be unique, but really 3 other babies down the street have it that could very well just be my area of living though, because it didn’t rank that high on the SSA list.
[name]Attie[/name] is a cute nn and works well for [name]Adaline[/name]!
As for the spelling, that depends how you want it pronounced. When I look at those 2, [name]Adaline[/name] = “add-ah-line” and [name]Adeline[/name] “add-eh-line”.
I think that I You are Ll right Bout the spelling. [name]Adeline[/name] is the best! My inky problem now is trying to decide if her being called [name]Addy[/name] will be a problem. I do like [name]Addy[/name] but like I said before there are way too many Addys short for [name]Addison[/name]. I feel [name]Addy[/name] is the new [name]Maddy[/name] . [name]Addison[/name] is the new [name]Maddison[/name] and I do not want to be on that train!
I prefer [name]Adeline[/name] spelling. This is a name that has grown on me over time. At first I didn’t like it bc I thought it was made up, ala [name]Adelyn[/name], then I learned it was a real historical name, so now I like it. I don’t like [name]Addy[/name], and I think you can only do so much to ensure her not being called [name]Addy[/name]. At some point, it will be her choice what the general population calls her. I had to make my peace with this concerning [name]Madeline[/name], which we used for our DD in [name]Jan[/name]! I don’t see the appeal of [name]Attie[/name], as it sounds pretty much the same as [name]Addy[/name] when said aloud. But I do like some of the suggested names you could use to get [name]Attie[/name].
