Auburn & Katherine vs Auburn & Elizabeth

We have narrowed our girl choices down to two sets.

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] & [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]
“[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_u]Kit[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Kate[/name_f]”

or

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
“[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Elise[/name_f]” or “[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]”

The main considerations between the two now are:

  • Which nickname for DD#2 works best with [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]?
  • DH has a first cousin whose first name is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. While she isn’t the reason we’re choosing the name, I do think she’ll be honored to have a “name buddy” in the family. (This is a large family with 15 first cousins, not counting spouses and kids, it’s nearly impossible not to have some overlap in names.) But, should we avoid the issue & choose [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] as the first name?
  • [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] honors DH’s mom, but nothing in the second set of names does. [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] is after my mom. Should we worry about that?

Everything in me says that choosing option one makes more sense for us, but I love [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Elise[/name_f] as siblings! & I hate the idea of losing [name_f]Hazel[/name_f].

I would love some opinions!
Thanks!!

I prefer [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], and love the sound of [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u]

The [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] combo is a little long imo though, so perhaps you could swap [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] out with [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and have [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]? I actually like the sound of that even more

I vote [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

Both lovely options. When I see Auburn and Katherine together, my brain ‘corrects’ it to Audrey and Katharine. I think that’s because the ‘burn’ next to an ‘Au’ name and Katherine makes me think of Katharine and Audrey Hepburn.
Not necessarily a bad thing.
I like the suggestion of Katherine Elizabeth Hazel. You could still call her Elise if you’re not as fond of Kit.

For what it’s worth, I think Kit is lovely, and I like Libby too (I went to school with several Elises, so I think of it as an 80s baby name, but I doubt many other people think of it that way. It has quite a nice sound).

We did have [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] on our list for a while, but I love [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] more. We might consider [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f], though. Thanks for the input!

I hadn’t really thought about the [name_f]Katharine[/name_f]/[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] Hepburn thing at all, but now that you point it out, I can see it! Not sure that makes a difference on which we choose, but nonetheless is interesting.

The more I hear [name_u]Kit[/name_u], the more I like it. Maybe I just needed some validation about the choice.

Thanks for your comments!

If you weren’t having twins, what names would you use? I assume since you’ve included some honor names, that your first daughter would have probably been [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]. That happens to be the [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] combination I prefer, so I’m moving from there.

I don’t necessarily see [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] as a sister to [name_f]Elise[/name_f], [name_f]Libby[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f], or [name_f]Kate[/name_f], but I can absolutely see [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. [name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]? I second that option! I feel like that might be the best of both worlds. [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u]. Both have an honor name for each of your mothers. Neither name is too lengthy. Both even have a nature name!

I would expect [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] to be a twin pair rather than [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] paired with a traditional name like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]. [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] seems quite stylistically different from [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], and from names like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]…

Is [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] a name you personally love while the others are honor names? If so, do you love names like [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], or are you settling on one in order to honor people? I’m not trying to be difficult, I just want you to [name_u]LOVE[/name_u] the first names of both of your twins!

If [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is your only true love here, I’d pair it with another first name you truly love, and save [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Katherine[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] for honor middles.

OK, lecture over

I also want to mention that [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] and [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are a great twin pair in my opinion - distinct from one another, but both are colors!

What about [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] or [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] instead of [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] are quite stuffy, especially next to [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Posey[/name_f]. [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] & [name_f]Elisa[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] are nice

I second many of the previous comments. From your options my favourite is [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] and [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], though there’s not a lot in it for me - both are full of lovely names. I think [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] and [name_u]Kit[/name_u] is nice - I really like both names, it’s just that they seem different styles as others have said. [name_f]Libby[/name_f] is also nice.

I would definitely go with option 1. But, I would change [name_f]Katherine[/name_f]'s name to [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]. So cute.

Personally, I like [name_f]Catherine[/name_f] better but they are both gorgeous names.

I feel that one name feels unbalanced to get both [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (the two great classic names.) It seems like each name should have one or the other, but not both.

Here are some suggestions:

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_f]Kate[/name_f] or [name_u]Kit[/name_u])

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])
OR
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])

[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])
OR
[name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] ([name_u]Auburn[/name_u]) call her by her middle name
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])
OR
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] (Called [name_u]Auburn[/name_u])
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])

I think you have two terrific honor names ([name_f]Katherine[/name_f] and [name_f]Caroline[/name_f]) and you should be sure you use them.

Would you consider using them as first names? [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_f]Carly[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Carlie[/name_f], [name_u]Kit[/name_u] and [name_f]Carrie[/name_f], [name_f]Kate[/name_f] and [name_f]Cara[/name_f]

If not first names, I would definitely use them as middle honor names.

You seem to be fond of the name [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] as a first name, it is personally not my style. I think I’d prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] or [name_f]Audra[/name_f] or [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. I can see [name_f]Elise[/name_f], which you seem to like, going with any of these names better than [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]. You can substitute [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] in these name combinations for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], etc. The [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] / [name_f]Elise[/name_f] combination is OK, but I would not use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] as the full name with [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]. Also I would avoid using [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] in any of the name combinations as it reminds one of the color comparison.

For the name similar to [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] I like [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], [name_u]Eloise[/name_u], [name_f]Louise[/name_f] or [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

For names similar to [name_f]Posey[/name_f] I like [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]

Some name combinations, for example:

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Audra[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] or [name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] ([name_f]Elise[/name_f])

[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elisabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Elise[/name_f] [name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Frances[/name_f]

[name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Daisy[/name_f] or [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] [name_f]Pearl[/name_f]
[name_f]Caroline[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] [name_f]Posey[/name_f]

I prefer option 2! [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] [name_f]Posey[/name_f] [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Katherine[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] . Nicknames [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] & [name_f]Elise[/name_f].

For option 1 I like [name_u]Kit[/name_u] more than [name_f]Kate[/name_f]. I knew a [name_f]Kitty[/name_f] growing up which was a cute nn if you’re looking for something more feminine.

We appreciate everyone’s responses so much! You guys gave us a lot to consider, and we have been talking it over. My DH threw some new opinions into the mix, so stay tuned for a new post with those!

I do want to clarify that we’re in the early stages of the adoption process, and while we could end up adopting twin daughters, we are really just wanting to have top two names for each gender. I realize I didn’t make that clear, and didn’t want to be misleading anyone!

Thanks again to everyone to replied & I look forward to your comments on upcoming posts!
