Auburn: way to out there?

Hello!

I’ve adored the name [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] for ages on a girl, but kept it strictly on the guilty pleasure list.
But, I just wanted to know if anyone can imagine it on a person, or actually like it?
I think I know the answer already, but just had to make sure.

Thanks

I don’t think it is use-able, sorry. [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] sounds lovely and I get it, a beautiful sound. Could try [name_u]Aubry[/name_u], [name_f]Audra[/name_f], Aubryn, Auberleen (I’m just making things up now). But [name_u]Auburn[/name_u], no, it would be like naming someone Blonde.

No way, not at all too out there. I really feel it looks and sounds way more maleish but it’s a nice name.

I think the various names listed above is exactly why it could work! The sound is familiar.
Granted, we don’t seem to have so many of those Au- names in Australia, so it might be a bit obscure for some.

Definitely can work. It reminds me of the name [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], which is widely accepted. I can see it on a boy or girl.

It’s definitely not too ‘out there.’ [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] is respectable and a pretty name.

For a male, yes, for a female, no.

I really think it is quite useable, and pretty even. It goes nicely with the Audreys, Aubreys, and Autumns, which is probably why I would think of it mostly as a girl name, though it could be unisex for sure. Interesting choice.

Definitely usable and I love it!

Its’ not too out there. There are plenty other color names being used. However, I suggest one to only use on these conditions:

1: She/he has auburn hair.

2: She/he has red hair.

3: She/he has brown hair, preferably a lighter shade.

Of course, it’s beautiful for any baby of any hair color, but it’d be a little odd on a baby that wasn’t one of those. As [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] started out as a male name but went to the girls, I feel it works for either gender. I say take [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] off the GP list.

I love it! Totally usable

I work at a daycare and when I’m testing out the plausibility of a name, I usually pretend like I have a child with that name in my class. Its odd, but it works. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a reality check I use.

I just can’t see a little [name_u]Auburn[/name_u]. Which is odd considering how easily I imagine an [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] or [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u]. It just feels off to me!

I can only picture it on a boy. Not sure why. I adore [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] for a girl. Sorry!

I like it as a middle

Feels very masculine, would love it on a boy. Not a fan on a girl.

I think it could definitely work, it is already similar in sound to so many popular / familiar names: [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u], [name_f]Audrey[/name_f], [name_u]Auden[/name_u], [name_f]Autumn[/name_f], [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], etc. I understand what the other poster was saying about it being like naming someone Blonde, but I see it more as a general colour name (à la [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Scarlet[/name_f], etc.), as people don’t generally describe people as having ‘auburn hair’ except in novels. They usually say they either have red or brown hair. Plus, [name_u]Red[/name_u] and [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] are perfectly legitimate names, so [name_u]Auburn[/name_u] could definitely work. I think it is a lot sleeker and more sophisticated (I adore [name_f]Ginger[/name_f] too).

I like it, but I agree with pp that it would only work on an auburn haired person, just like I feel [name_f]Autumn[/name_f] only works for babies born in the…[name_f]Autumn[/name_f]!
