We are choosing a name for baby girl #2 due this year. We are deciding between a few really popular names - [name_f]Olivia[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - but we also really love the name [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f]. Here’s the thing: our other daughter’s name is [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
Is it really dumb to have two sisters whose names start with the same letter? Honestly I had never given that any thought before reading on these forums. But it seems some feel very strongly about this.
[name_m]How[/name_m] do you feel about [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as siblings? Obviously [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] has a few more natural nicknames - [name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_u]Lexi[/name_u], etc. and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] naturally does not. But of course we have nicknames for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] (otter, [name_u]Audie[/name_u], and sometimes she asks us to call her [name_f]Audria[/name_f]). ¯_(ツ)_/¯
So, what do you think of [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] & [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] vs. the other names on our list? We’re considering some pretty simple middle names - [name_f]Kate[/name_f], [name_f]Claire[/name_f], and yes [name_f]Grace[/name_f] - to not overpower [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I’d love some honest thoughts and opinions! xo
I think its fine to have two siblings with names that start with the same first letter. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] isn’t my personal favorite but it’s still cute. I think that you could do [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] which would go well with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. If you do use [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] I think that [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] and [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] are a good combo. [name_m]Don[/name_m]'t worry about having the names start with the same first letter. It’s not a big deal
In a word, no, but it does make things more challenging for future siblings. You just have to choose whether a hypothetical kid #3 would follow the pattern or not. My siblings’ and my first initials are A, A, G, and B, and it doesn’t seem odd. But just A, A, and G might be a little weirder. It all depends on your personal preference.
I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] actually go really well together as sisters—they’re both classic, feminine names that have different enough sounds not to feel too matchy. Au- vs A-, different numbers of syllables. They’re distinct from each other, but cohesive. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_u]Alex[/name_u] would be sweet!
I think the matching initials are fine, especially as they sound nothing a like.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] sound nice together and I think nicknames will come naturally, as they have for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f].
[name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is my fave combo, but I also like the idea of [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]
I think two girls matching initials are totally fine… its when it gets Kardashian level that it seems too contrived. Or if you told me you and hubby’s names also started with A. Otherwise I think it’s just something obsessed about online! LOL
I personally prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]
I don’t think matching initials are a problem. In my family the first two siblings share an initial and the third is different and I don’t think anyone has ever said anything about it. That said, I really love [name_f]Emily[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] as a sister to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. [name_f]Ellen[/name_f] is pretty fantastic with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] too, as is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].
Definitely not! It’s important to go with the names you love, and if they happen to share initials, that’s not a big deal.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] pair well as siblings. Both are classic and feminine and strong sounding. On the nickname front, I think nicknames can come from almost anywhere, as you seem to have found with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. Whether the nickname is “natural” or not isn’t super important. So I think it works just fine.
My favorite is [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f], actually! Second choice would be [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] would be lovely! ([name_f]Grace[/name_f] also sounds quite nice with either)
I think its fine to have shared initials as long as it doesn’t seem forced. I think [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] are both beautiful classics that compliment each other well. [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f] would be beautiful next to [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f]. I also think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Emily[/name_f] is sweet too, though a little long. All your names sound lovely with [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and none of them sound too matchy.
I don’t see any issue with having siblings begin with the same initial. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] are great names and work well for siblings. And I don’t think it matters what you do with a possible third either.
[name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] go well together! As others have pointed out, although they have the same initial their sound is very different
I dont think using the same letter is dumb at all. And it doesnt mean if you have a 3rd that you have to use the same letter again so they all match. I think it would only be a problem if they were VERY similar. Like having an [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and a [name_u]Aubrey[/name_u] for instance. I think [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] is different enough. Plus, they both are such classic names that they go well together. Plus if she wanted to go by the nn [name_u]Lex[/name_u] or [name_u]Lexie[/name_u] for instance, that also would help distinguish it from [name_f]Audrey[/name_f]. I say go for it, if you love it.
I think it’d be fine for them to start with the same letter. I know a set of twins whose names are [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_u]Laurie[/name_u]? Personally from your suggestions i like emily best
I like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] a lot! It was almost going to be my name; my parents’ combo was [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Danae[/name_f], which I think feels so Greek and lovely! [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Lilac[/name_f] [name_f]Jane[/name_f] has been on my list in the past, and I am ridiculously in love with it still, even though it’s not currently on my list.
I think alliteration is fine, though. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] both stand well on their own and aren’t really matchy, other than the first initial. I think they are lovely together, although I sliiiiiightly prefer [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f] together.
I quite like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f] or [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f]? It’s simpler than I was expecting, but still works well! I think something like [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_u]Wren[/name_u], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Hope[/name_f], etc., would be a lovely little sister for [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] [name_f]Rose[/name_f] without overpowering her.
I think avoiding the same initials matters only if the names are short and/or very similar (e.g. [name_f]Nora[/name_f] & [name_f]Nina[/name_f], [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] & [name_f]Anastasia[/name_f],…), [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] are perfectly distinguishable!.
I like them together, both are mature names that are very approachable. Personally, I really like a nickname like [name_f]Anne[/name_f] or [name_f]Anna[/name_f] for [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as I find it captures the spirit of the full name better than [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] or [name_u]Alex[/name_u].
Of your list, I really like [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] best as sisters, I’m not usually a fan of [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] but I love how classy, timeless and, especially, ageless they sound together!
Name of the [name_u]Day[/name_u] - [name_f]Audrina[/name_f]

sometimes she asks us to call her Audria
Since [name_m]Little[/name_m] [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] seems to have a talent for naming, maybe you should consult her.
I vote for [name_f]Eliza[/name_f] [name_f]Claire[/name_f]. (E-lie-zah)
I personally love [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] and [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] as sibling names! I have met so many kind and beautiful Alexandras who all go by [name_u]Alex[/name_u], but i think [name_u]Lexi[/name_u] is cuter in my opinion! I agree with the user above who said [name_f]Alexandra[/name_f] [name_f]Kate[/name_f] is the perfect combination! Those two names go so well together
