Audrey or Astrid?

A number of years ago my husband and I came up with names we agreed on for our kids. Our first boy would be [name]Leonard[/name] [name]Phillip[/name], our second boy [name]Jasper[/name] [name]Hudson[/name] and our first girl [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Fay[/name].

We have our [name]Leonard[/name] [name]Phillip[/name] (nn [name]Lenny[/name]) and are due to have #2 in a couple of weeks. But since being pregnant I’ve been feeling that both [name]Jasper[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] are becoming ‘it’ names (they’re both sitting at about number 80 in our state in Australia, but I think they’re on their way up). I like names that are common enough that people have heard them before, but that aren’t likely to go anywhere anytime soon.

After posting here a few months ago I decided to keep [name]Jasper[/name] (and I haven’t come up with any alternatives that DH likes), and we had decided to go with [name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name] if it’s a girl. But I still really love [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Fay[/name]! I told my husband he could make the decision but he can’t decide either… (note that [name]Joy[/name] is DH’s grandma’s name, and [name]Fay[/name] is my Grandma’s name, but my sister had a baby today and gave it the middle name [name]Fay[/name], so we are a bit reluctant to use it… but I do love it with [name]Audrey[/name])

Help! What do you think? [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Fay[/name] or [name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name]?

[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name].

[name]Audrey[/name] is just too popular, though beautiful.

[name]Hi[/name] I love [name]Audrey[/name], but I agree with the pp…[name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name] would go so nicely with [name]Leonard[/name] [name]Phillip[/name]!

I vote for [name]Audrey[/name] because as much as I like [name]Astrid[/name], it starts with the sound ass.

[name]Audrey[/name] is so lovely! I’m not in Australia so I can’t tell you if the popularity is an issue or not. [name]Astrid[/name] is so harsh sounding to me. As for middles, it’s really common for family members to share names (my older cousin’s middle is my first–we’re both named after our grandmother) and since it honors your family, I don’t think anyone would bat an eye. Although [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Joy[/name] is very nice too…

Thanks for your feedback! I would never have thought of [name]Astrid[/name] starting with ass, but ass means donkey in Australia so I’m not too worried! At this stage [name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name] is winning over [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Fay[/name]. If I have another girl I’d still like to use [name]Fay[/name] ([name]Beatrix[/name] [name]Fay[/name]) but it’s a bit too close to my niece’s naming right now…

I am not familiar with [name]Astrid[/name] and I love the name [name]Audrey[/name]. I used it for my daughter. We do have a Norwegian last name and i did consider names from that origin. I just looked up [name]Astrid[/name] and noticed it is Norse. I’m in [name]California[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] is well received, so I decided on a name that would be familiar with the people we are around. [name]How[/name] do you pronounce [name]Astrid[/name]? Is the ‘d’ silent?

I know how you feel about [name]Jasper[/name]. It’s my great grandfather’s name and I always planned to use it but now it’s so popular. I may use it as a middle name but not even sure about that now. (Dang, Twilight!) [name]Astrid[/name] was my favorite name in high school and I do think it’s underused. It’s a great name. [name]Audrey[/name] is also a great name but it’s a lot more popular. I’d go with [name]Astrid[/name] but you should go with the one you love most, no matter what!

I love both names. But I am leaning more towards [name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name]. I prefer [name]Fay[/name] in the middle spot to [name]Joy[/name]. But out of your combos I would choose [name]Astrid[/name] [name]Joy[/name].

I prefer [name]Astrid[/name]. People always comment that [name]Audrey[/name] is classic and it is generally well received but for some reason I have never liked it. .
