[name]Hi[/name] all!
I’m due in a couple weeks and we are stuck on these three names. I’d love some feedback from this community !
Older sister is [name]Matilda[/name] nn [name]Tilly[/name]. LN is [name]Brown[/name].
[name]August[/name] ([name]Gus[/name])
[name]Oliver[/name] (no NN since [name]Tilly[/name] and [name]Ollie[/name] are too matchy)
[name]Graham[/name] (my fave but not sure how it sounds with our LN)
I love all your choices! In fact, we seriously considered all of them and 2 of the 3 were on our very short list that came to the hospital with us. We ended up naming one of the boys [name]Oliver[/name] [name]Graham[/name] (both family names for us).
For your situation I think I also prefer [name]Oliver[/name] and it is mainly because of your ln. [name]August[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] are word names (well “gram” is a word and when pronounced “[name]Graham[/name]” sounds very similar/ the same depending on your chosen pronunciation) so since you have another word name as a ln I would personally choose something that purely a name for the fn. However, I don’t think it is a big deal for everyone, just a personal aversion.
If I don’t consider the word issue, I would say I like [name]Graham[/name] the best, but only slightly. I think all three sound great with big sister’s name.
I love [name]Matilda[/name], it is on my girl’s list and I absolutely love [name]August[/name] and it is on my boy’s list. I also like [name]Graham[/name] a lot. [name]Oliver[/name] is too popular and trendy, not my cup of tea.
[name]Oliver[/name] is really climbing, at least local to me I run into them all the time especially 3 years old and under. Still a handsome name if that doesn’t bug you, [name]Ollie[/name] and [name]Tillie[/name] sound fine together imho, and as they grow up they may choose different nns or go by their full names. [name]August[/name] is a great name, love Auggie or [name]Gus[/name] as nicnames. Same for [name]Graham[/name], love it of course. I am torn, but between those three would probably choose [name]August[/name], or, wait to see what name best fits him after he is born.
I love your choices! [name]August[/name] and [name]Graham[/name] are both on my short list of favorites. [name]Oliver[/name] is also a great name but a little too popular for me. And while I love [name]August[/name], I think [name]Graham[/name] is the best choice with [name]Matilda[/name]. For me they both have the right amount of quirkiness, spunk and heaviness that make them just right.
I have an [name]August[/name] [name]John[/name]. We call him Auggie–although when he was born we planned to call him [name]Gus[/name], but Auggie stuck! I love the name. I think it has better nickname options than [name]Oliver[/name] and [name]Graham[/name], and it’s a lovely companion to [name]Mathilda[/name]. Good luck!
Being picky, in the interest of helping you narrow down:
[name]Oliver[/name] [name]Brown[/name] is very much a color name. I think of army fatigues, camouflage… khaki. Hm.
[name]August[/name] [name]Brown[/name] is great, but [name]August[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] feel slightly mismatched. [name]August[/name] is [name]Roman[/name] Emperor, [name]Matilda[/name] is cozy quirky.
Also (being ultra picky) [name]August[/name] [name]Brown[/name] makes me think of brown grass, plant life dying in the heat of [name]August[/name].
I think [name]Graham[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] are both warm and strong at the same time. [name]Graham[/name] [name]Brown[/name] sounds lovely to me. I don’t see the flow with your last name as an issue at all. [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Graham[/name] [name]Bell[/name] was alright with [name]Graham[/name] [name]Bell[/name].
Wow, all three are great so you can’t go wrong. My vote is for [name]August[/name]. I just love that name. It’s distiguished but more unique, which makes it go really well with your last name. I like [name]Graham[/name] second best in the abstract but agree it sounds weird with your last name. I can’t put my finger on why, though and emma’s point about [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Graham[/name] [name]Bell[/name] makes it even more peculiar. [name]Oliver[/name] I’m just not as big a fan of in general but it does go well with [name]Matilda[/name].
I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]August[/name] and [name]Oliver[/name]. I don’t know if I could choose between these two. If my daughter had been a boy, she would probably have been [name]Oliver[/name]. It was our #1 at the time.
I like [name]Graham[/name] too just not as much as the other two.
I think all of the names are great with [name]Matilda[/name].
I adore [name]Oliver[/name], and it’s beautiful with [name]Matilda[/name]. I think [name]Graham[/name] and [name]August[/name] are lovely too, but [name]Oliver[/name] might be the perfect boy name.
