August or Augusta for a girl?

I love [name]Augusta[/name] and [name]August[/name] for a girl but can’t decide which one I like best. [name]August[/name] or [name]Augusta[/name]? And what do you think of the names?

I prefer [name]Augusta[/name] for a girl, since I see [name]August[/name] as a boy’s name. Overall I like the names.

I know [name]August[/name] is a boys name, it was even one of my very top names for my son, but I love it for girls too. It’s really one of very few boys names that I like for girls AND boys. I really don’t like [name]Augusta[/name], it don’t think it’s nearly as sweet and pretty as [name]August[/name].

[name]August[/name] is tradtionally male. There was the famous Emperor [name]Augustus[/name] (the month was named after him, in fact), then a few Augustines after him, I believe. Being more traditional myself, I would keep [name]August[/name] as a male name and use [name]Augusta[/name] for a girl. You have no idea how thrilled I would be to see a baby [name]Augusta[/name], it would just about make my week! Good luck! :]

Thanks for your answers. I know that the month was named after a guy, but so was the month of march (named after [name]Mars[/name], the god of war) and it is now more seen as a girls name. I see [name]Augustus[/name] as very masculine and [name]August[/name] as unisex.

hmm I love them both, I guess I have to think about it for a while.

[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Augustina[/name]?

I like [name]Augustina[/name] a lot more than [name]Augusta[/name].

I love [name]Augustina[/name] and then you could give her the nickname [name]August[/name]. If she grows up to be a girly girl like my daughter is then she could be [name]Augustina[/name] or even [name]Augusta[/name]. [name]Augusta[/name] could be a nickname for [name]Augustina[/name]. And if she’s more of a no nonsense type, then she could be [name]August[/name]. Lots of possibilities with [name]Augustina[/name]. She could even be a [name]Tina[/name].

I like [name]August[/name]. [name]Augusta[/name] is a city name to me since there’s one near us.

Place names are very popular. They sound more exotic when the person with the place name doesn’t live near the place. So [name]Augusta[/name] wouldn’t be a good choice for you or for my cousin’s family who live in [name]Augusta[/name], [name]Georgia[/name]. But, if a family doesn’t live in or near [name]Augusta[/name], that name would be a great choice. I, on the other hand, will never name my daughter Los [name]Angeles[/name] because I can see it from the street behind my house.
[name]Augustine[/name] is a cute option as well as long as you don’t live near [name]St[/name]. [name]Augustine[/name], FLA.

I really love boys names on girls, so long as it’s not something really common or confusing. Like I knew a girl named [name]Ryan[/name], who actually looked like a boy. There is a female reporter on TV in our area named [name]Hank[/name] Phillipie [name]Ryan[/name] too, which cracks me up. I think names like [name]Jalen[/name] or [name]Jayden[/name] which are being given rampantly to both boys and girls and sound more feminine are a waste for girls.

But [name]August[/name] for a girl is super cool, and better than adding an -a or an -ine just to show up front that she’s a girl. I don’t know why some boys names work and others don’t, but the sound of the word [name]August[/name] is not super masculine, and the time of year is kind of romantic… I really like [name]August[/name] for a girl.

jfevans, we live in the same area! She’s channel 7, No? She’s got a mystery novel out: http://www.hankphillippiryan.com/facetime.php
Her protaganist? [name]Charlotte[/name] McNally! (and her middle is Phillipi, just to make a minor correction).

While I’d use [name]August[/name] on a boy and [name]Augusta[/name] on a girl (traditionalist, that’s me) I see nothing majorly wrong with [name]August[/name] on a girl. I’d hate to be her, especially since [name]August[/name] is definitely skewing masculine these days. As a gangly 9 year old, I would have been horrified to find that I shared my name with a boy or two in my class. Thank goodness Mom made Pop think of something girly for me!

that’s funny lola, i just realized this afternoon that i had misspelled it! oops! ya, all i can think of every time i see her is what her parents must have been thinking to give the triple dude name… but i think kids around that age can always find a reason to dislike their names… I didn’t like mine because it was too uncommon back then, but after a few years, that was what i valued most. and everyone is different i guess! but i think names like grier, rowan, quinn, emery, and finley make for modern, spunky little girl names, and to my ear august would fit with that. i think it just should not be a boy’s name so common that everyone immediately associates it with a bunch of boys they know… i think i prefer tradition with a spin.

[name_u]August[/name_u] is a boy name. [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] is a girl name. Both are wonderful.
