I’ve recently been drawn to the name [name_u]August[/name_u] for a boy however as I’m pregnant with a girl and came across a little girl with the name today I’ve started thinking about it as a possible option.
What does everyone think?
I’m due quite soon and we’ve pretty much decided on the name [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] and I’d be surprised if we strayed from that but as my partner didn’t immediately veto [name_u]August[/name_u] it’s been on my mind.
Wikipedia suggests it’s unisex whereas Nameberry lists it as masculine. [name_f]Do[/name_f] you see it as for one or the other only or as unisex, and which name do you prefer for a girl?
I think [name_u]August[/name_u] could work on a girl, but I personally prefer it on a boy. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is a lovely choice though! There’s always [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] – though it seems that [name_u]August[/name_u] is where your heart lies. If you love the name then I would definitely go for it!
I definitely think [name_u]August[/name_u] is unisex. Personally, I prefer it on a boy, but it’s wonderfully strong, quirky and refreshing for a girl. [name_f]Amelie[/name_f] is very pretty, but I do prefer [name_u]August[/name_u], which I think is really feisty and cool! [name_m]How[/name_m] about [name_f]Autumn[/name_f]?
I also definitely think of [name_u]August[/name_u] as unisex, but prefer it on a boy. That doesn’t mean it won’t work for a girl though, [name_u]Gus[/name_u] would also be a quirky nickname for a girl [name_u]August[/name_u] as well! Out of [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_f]Amelie[/name_f], for a girl I prefer [name_f]Amelie[/name_f].
I would 100% assume an [name_u]August[/name_u] was a male. Behind the Name is an excellent source for information on names. Wikipedia can be changed by anyone and would not be a source that I would personally use for reliable information.
I’ve always thought of [name_u]August[/name_u] as a gender neutral nickname for either [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] or [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] but I suppose it could work as a given name on either as well
I’ve always seen [name_u]August[/name_u] as usable for girls as a month name - similarly to how [name_u]Robin[/name_u] is used for girls as a nature name, even though it’s also a traditional male name.
[name_u]August[/name_u] on a girl is lovely - there’s something so breezy and straightforward about her; I think of coastal scenes, seashells and fresh air. I prefer it to [name_f]Amelie[/name_f]!
[name_u]August[/name_u] is our top boy pick at the moment, although we haven’t started TTC yet haha, that’s a few years away. And while I knew it was unisex, it wasn’t until this post that I went hmmm maybe it could work for a girl as well (personally). I think [name_u]August[/name_u] sounds refreshing, like a fresh version of other month names ([name_f]April[/name_f], [name_f]May[/name_f], [name_u]June[/name_u])
