[name_m]Hi[/name_m] all! My husband and I are expecting our first baby in [name_f]May[/name_f]. We are not finding out the sex.
We’ve been discussing the names [name_u]August[/name_u] and [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. I suggested [name_u]August[/name_u], and I am feeling pretty attached it it. He doesn’t care for [name_u]August[/name_u] as much, but really likes [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]
I do like the name, but I worry that its a little “too much” for a baby. I am having a hard time picturing introducing our baby as “[name_m]Augustus[/name_m]” - does it seem truly usable? I’m just looking for some general opinions on the names, and any experience you have with either. Thanks!
I much prefer the understated [name_u]August[/name_u] to [name_m]Augustus[/name_m]. To my ear, [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is a lot to live up to at any stage of life. I really like [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] though. Might that work as a compromise?
I prefer the simpler [name_u]August[/name_u] as I think it would be easier to wear. I also like pp’s suggestion of [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] although [name_u]August[/name_u] is my favourite.
I also prefer the simplicity of [name_u]August[/name_u]. [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is a bit grand for me plus I really don’t like the “gustus” sound of the name.
I think both names are fine. If you decide on [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], he could/would still be called [name_u]August[/name_u] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u].
I don’t think [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is too much for a baby and I quite like the name, however I too have a stronger attachment to [name_u]August[/name_u]. Like PP said, you can always name him [name_m]Augustus[/name_m], but call him [name_u]August[/name_u].
I feel it is a bit much, but that is because it is buried too far in the [name_m]Roman[/name_m] empire for me that I can’t see it ever digging its way out. Oddly, [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] does seem more wearable to me.
I love both! [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] is adorable on a baby. This maybe isn’t a good association but it reminds me of the mouse from [name_f]Cinderella[/name_f]. It’s sweet and playful. [name_u]August[/name_u] has a different vibe–more serious and beautiful. It’s a tough choice! Would you be okay naming him [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] but calling him [name_u]August[/name_u]?
Of the two I prefer [name_m]Augustus[/name_m] - I met a little girl today named [name_f]Khaleesi[/name_f] and another named [name_f]Ursula[/name_f], so I wouldn’t be too worried about anything feeling too much anymore, and he could always go by [name_u]August[/name_u] pretty easily if he wanted to. [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] would be my preference over both however.
