Hello again everyone! Me again, trying to find a name for a potential first boy in our family (won’t know until he/ she arrives)! Big sisters are [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. From the start I’ve been circling back to [name_u]August[/name_u], which I love. [name_m]Even[/name_m] had a dream that it was a boy and that was his name. [name_u]Love[/name_u] it with our surname and our middle name choices (Arthur John) There are just a few things holding me back from officially making it the boy name choice.

Nicknames - I’ve mentioned [name_u]August[/name_u] to a few friends and gotten “ooh Auggie!” I don’t like [name_m]Auggie[/name_m]! I don’t mind [name_u]Gus[/name_u], but don’t love it either bc of the repeat first letter with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]. I recently posted about [name_m]Oscar[/name_m], nickname Ozzy… could Ozzy/ [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] work for [name_u]August[/name_u]? Both my girls go by their full names so is a nickname avoidable completely here? Any other nickname ideas?

Word names - [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] is a state and a country and [name_u]August[/name_u] is a month… does this stick out/ bother you at all?
-
[name_u]Baby[/name_u] is due in [name_u]July[/name_u]. Based on previous pregnancies could even come in late [name_u]June[/name_u]. Is it weird to have a June/ [name_u]July[/name_u] baby named [name_u]August[/name_u]?
To answer the easy questions first, I think it’s absolutely fine to have both an [name_u]August[/name_u] and a [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]! [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] to me is a name first and a word/place name second, so I wouldn’t have made the connection at all. I also don’t think the time of birth matters! Actually, some users on this website were discussing this recently, and I think most people had the opinion that it’s more weird to have a baby named after the month they were born in, than the opposite!
As for the nickname question, I’m not sure. I think [name_u]August[/name_u] is short enough that it wouldn’t necessarily get shortened, or if it does get shortened it would be an occasional thing. For example, would it bother you if some of his friends called him [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] once in a while. but still [name_u]August[/name_u] most of the time? Because I think that’s more likely than him ever being [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] more often than [name_u]August[/name_u]. I only know one [name_u]August[/name_u] and she only ever gets called her full name! That said, it’s not impossible that he’d decide to go by [name_m]Auggie[/name_m], so it’s up to you to decide if it would bother you so much that it would make the name unusable. I also adore Ozzie/Ozzy, but for me it doesn’t make much sense as a nickname for [name_u]August[/name_u].

Thank you both! [name_u]Super[/name_u] helpful. Start overthinking these things and my brain just goes
.
FWIW my girls both thought [name_u]August[/name_u] was a cool name when we ran it by them. And if he’s mostly [name_u]August[/name_u] and a few budddies call him [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] I think I’ll be fine with that.

- It’s impossible to say that a nickname is completely avoidable, but if you and your family always call him [name_u]August[/name_u] and that’s what he knows himself as, it’s more likely to catch on and others are more likely to follow your lead. Still, if he did become ‘‘Auggie’’, you might find it grew on you.
Anyhow, back to [name_u]Ozzie[/name_u] - I think it could work if you want it to (August ‘Ozzie’ like Australia ‘Aussie’ kind of?)
A few other ideas:
[name_u]August[/name_u] Art.hur J0hn nn…
AJ?
[name_m]Arty[/name_m]?
[name_u]Aster[/name_u]?
Not sure they’re particularly intuitive though

That doesn’t stick out to me. They both feel well established as names - I wouldn’t really consider [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] a word name
-
I don’t think it’s weird. As I say, [name_u]August[/name_u] is name-y enough that it doesn’t feel odd.

I loooove [name_u]August[/name_u] with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and Eloise!! I don’t mind that [name_u]August[/name_u] & [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] are both word names and I think [name_u]August[/name_u] is established enough as a name that it’s ok if baby isn’t born in [name_u]August[/name_u]! That being said,
I’m hesitant to say you should go for it if you dislike [name_m]Auggie[/name_m]. The fact that you’ve already had people shorten it to [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] makes me feel that it may be unavoidable. Furthermore, what if [name_u]August[/name_u] decides to go by [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] later down the line? Would it bother you? However, I don’t think it’s impossible by any means. Ultimately it’s up how you feel!

Thanks all! The more I think about it I feel that he will mostly be [name_u]August[/name_u] if that’s how we introduce/ refer to him. Many people thought [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] would be destined for a nickname but she’s just [name_f]Eloise[/name_f]. And while I don’t love [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] if it became a nickname that arose through friends/ people that love him I think I could see it differently…

Firstly I love [name_u]August[/name_u]
Nicknames in my experience are not controllable. It really depends on everyday life, what comes naturally to people and what is intuitive to those within his life. Also depends on what nickname
(if any) he wants to use. Another nickname you could go by is AJ using the middle initial of J from [name_u]John[/name_u] with A from [name_u]August[/name_u].
I think both [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] + [name_u]August[/name_u] work just fine they are established classics so the state or month do not jump out at me.
Again [name_u]August[/name_u] is an established classic so I think the month thing is a non issue.

Ok so my nephew is [name_u]August[/name_u], he’s born in [name_u]February[/name_u] although we don’t even really think about the month he was born in to be honest.
When he was first born we thought his nickname would be [name_u]Augie[/name_u] (a bit like the Australian band [name_u]Augie[/name_u] March), I suggested [name_u]Gus[/name_u] and was brutally shut down
.
However, his mum and dad only refer to him as [name_u]August[/name_u]. Never [name_u]Augie[/name_u] or [name_u]Gus[/name_u], just [name_u]August[/name_u].
You will more than likely come up with a nickname that has nothing to do with his actual name.

[name_m]Hi[/name_m] there,
You have lots of answers already but since [name_u]August[/name_u] is my absolute favourite boy name, I’d love to weight in!
Firstly, I think the birth month thing is a non-issue. I would probably name my son [name_u]August[/name_u] even if he was born in [name_u]August[/name_u].
I also don’t think the state and month thing is an issue. I’m not American though so I don’t really associate [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] with the state immediately anyway.
For the nickname part, I get you. I don’t like [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] either. But I do like [name_u]Gus[/name_u]! I even think it would be okay with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] since the Gs are pronounced differently? If you needed to use initials you could just use an A for him. But I also get that you don’t want the shared initial. I personally don’t think [name_u]August[/name_u] needs a nickname at all and think [name_u]Ozzy[/name_u] works nicely too. How about [name_u]Ace[/name_u]?
I love [name_u]August[/name_u] with [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and [name_f]Eloise[/name_f] by the way. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f] names.
