August

Hello! I am a teenaged girl named [name_m]August[/name_m]. While I don’t hate the name, it really doesn’t feel like me. I believe a name should reflect you, and I am very girly and [name_m]August[/name_m] is a male name traditionally. I am going to university in a few years and want a nick name to go by (not [name_m]Gus[/name_m] or [name_m]Auggie[/name_m] as I hate them both), if no one can find anything my last name can kinda be shortened to penny, which I do like! Is going by last name something people do? Thanks

[name_m]Welcome[/name_m]!

[name_f]Aggie[/name_f] is also a nn option for [name_m]August[/name_m], but not everyone’s cup of tea. I don’t know anyone personally who goes by their last name, but that’s not to say it’s not done [name_f][/name_f]- it’s definitely an option! [name_m]Or[/name_m] you could go by your middle name, or a nickname of your middle, if you have one.

[name_f]Hope[/name_f] that helps somewhat

I love the name [name_m]August[/name_m], but I can understand it not feeling like you. Rather than trying to pry a nickname out of your last name, I’d just go for it and change your name if you feel strongly enough about it! People will adjust. It’s not quite the same, but I killed my nickname before I went to university. People still use it in my hometown and family or origin, but I’m hardly ever there so it doesn’t matter. With a bit of hindsight and years behind me, I am leaning toward just no holds barred do what feels good and right to you.

If you like [name_f]Penny[/name_f], I think [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] Prendergast sounds totally badass and gorgeous.

I think both [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] & [name_f]Attie[/name_f] would be natural feeling feminine nicknames for [name_m]August[/name_m]. A little more stretchy I think you could pull of [name_f]Gigi[/name_f], Sisy, Tussi and really stretchy [name_f]Kitty[/name_f]

I like @LibelluleClaire’s suggestion of [name_f]Attie[/name_f] :sparkling_heart:

I love the idea of [name_f]Aggie[/name_f]! What about Guga? Gata, Aggs, Auga, Gaga, [name_f]Gusta[/name_f], Tua, Ausa and [name_f]Aussie[/name_f] are other options. [name_f]Goldie[/name_f] is a bit of a stretch, but it could work.
[name_f][/name_f]Perhaps you could go with [name_f]Augusta[/name_f], unofficially. Following August’s theme, [name_f]Summer[/name_f] and [name_f]Sunny[/name_f] would be sweet nicknames.

Thank you! I wish I had a nice last name or else I would have changed it by now, unfortunately it is my moms (kinda ugly) last name! Thank you for everything!

How is [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] pronounced? Because I have tried to listen to it on YouTube a few times and it’s different every time. Thank you so much!

[name_f]My[/name_f] sister is [name_m]August[/name_m]! [name_f]Beautiful[/name_f] name but I understand.

[name_f][/name_f]

I was going to suggest [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] too. I pronounce it “Uh-gust-uh” (emphasis on the second syllable.)

I know lots of people who either go by or have nicknames from surnames. Penny is cute.

I also liked the suggestion of Aggie.

You could also extend your name to Augusta, or Augustine.

Or form a nickname from your initials

I pronounce Augusta aw-GUST-uh (i pronounce August AW-gust for reference)

I agree there are some nice nn options for [name_m]August[/name_m] if you want them… [name_f]Aggie[/name_f] was my first idea too but I think [name_f]Gigi[/name_f] that someone else mentioned is also great, and I also like [name_f]Tess[/name_f], [name_f]Sosie[/name_f], [name_f]Susie[/name_f], or [name_f]Zuzu[/name_f] too.

[name_f][/name_f]

Could you maybe use a combo nickname from like your first and middle? [name_f][/name_f] For example, if your middle name is [name_f]Alison[/name_f], you could go by [name_m]Tally[/name_m] or if your middle is [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], you could go by [name_f]Stella[/name_f]?

[name_f][/name_f]

I do think you could go by [name_f]Penny[/name_f] too if you really love that.

[name_f][/name_f]

Good luck!

[name_f]Gussie[/name_f] or [name_f]Esti[/name_f]?

[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Gigi[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Audra[/name_f]

I know many people that go by last names, and it is incredibly commonplace. [name_f]Penny[/name_f] is sweet. You could go by [name_f]Augusta[/name_f] or [name_m]Augustine[/name_m] if you’d like something similar but feminine. [name_m]Kit[/name_m] is a stretch but it is an option too. Seconding [name_f]Aster[/name_f]!

[name_f][/name_f]

If you’d like to go by an entirely different name instead…
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Autumn[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Artemis[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Aurora[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Audrey[/name_f]
[name_f][/name_f][name_f]Asta[/name_f] [name_f][/name_f]- could also work as a nickname for [name_m]August[/name_m]

I think you could pull [name_f]Gaia[/name_f] or [name_f]Selah[/name_f] as a huge stretch from that if you like either of those! [name_f][/name_f] I love the suggestion of [name_f]Esti[/name_f] too.
