I’ve recently started to feel pretty down on my girls’ list, and needed some new inspiration. I read through one of the NB ebooks (“Cool Names”) and stumbled across this.
[name_f]Auretta[/name_f] means “gentle breeze” in Italian, according to the book. I do have a little Italian ancestry and the language has always appealed to me. I really like earthy-sort-of meanings, too.
The name is pretty darn near unheard of, yet gives a similar feel to [name_f]Aurora[/name_f], which I like but it’s climbing up the charts a little too steeply for me to feel comfortable with. It strikes me as fairly intuitive to pronounce and has a pretty sound. I love the idea of nicknames “[name_f]Etta[/name_f]” or “[name_f]Aurie[/name_f].”
Reminds me of [name_f]Loretta[/name_f] but more nature-y and fresh… I like it and I like the nickname [name_f]Ettie[/name_f] or [name_f]Etta[/name_f] but I like it better in theory than in practice. I just said it out loud as if calling to someone and it felt a little clunky which was disappointing because in my head it is quite lovely but I do have a Western NY accent so it is hard do any name justice when pronouncing it for me
Lol about the accent! I can see how that might do a number on certain names, haha! I am jealous though. Wish I had a cool accent.
Yeah the biggest issue I’m thinking as far as saying the name is that people will probably hear “[name_f]Loretta[/name_f],” which is something to consider I guess.
“Nature-y and fresh” … I like that! Thanks for the feedback.
I’m so sorry but [name_f]Auretta[/name_f] reminds me of the french for stop - Arret. There is a drug for upset tummies also called Arret so it does nothing for me. Sorry to rain on your name but I’d rather be honest.
[name_f]Ettie[/name_f] is so beautiful and far less clunky. What about using this instead?
