Aurora - pronounciation and sound?

Great insights!

I also love this name and I agree that it looks beautiful written down, however I do sometimes struggle to say it. If you really love it though then you should use it!

It’s a bit challenging for me to say as well since it doesn’t flow off the tongue easily, but it is a very beautiful, enchanting name.

[name_m]Just[/name_m] in case, here are a few others that sound similar and may be a tad easier to pronounce:

[name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]
[name_f]Astoria[/name_f]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f]

For me [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] flows easily…much more easily than [name_f]Aurelia[/name_f]. And I love the meaning of [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] & the possibility of [name_u]Rory[/name_u] as a nn.

I have to be honest and say I’ve never found [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] a nice sounding name. I love the meaning but to me it sounds rough. I think it’s the R’s or the repeated ‘or’ sound and it just doesn’t appeal to me at all.

I find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] to be a bit of a mouthful, so I would not name my own child that. However, I don’t think it is an obstacle as long as you are easily able to say and shout the name repeatedly. I would advise against a name you aren’t sure you will enjoy saying continually.

I adore [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. Mainly for the beautiful imagery, but I have no issue with the pronunciation either.

I do find it awkward to say, unfortunately. It comes out something like “ah-ROW-WRA” instead of [name_m]Ah[/name_m]-[name_m]ROAR[/name_m]-[name_m]RA[/name_m]. It’s a shame because I think it looks pretty but I could never personally use it because well, I cannot pronounce it correctly in my own head, let alone if I were to yell it across a playground.

I find [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] awkward to say, but in the name’s defense, I have a speech impairment which make many names including my own hard to say. I personally find that [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] to sound kinda mumbled no matted how articulate the speaker is. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] also sounds odd when shouted across the playground or called up the stairs.

[name_f]Edit[/name_f]:
OP try yelling “[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. Dinner’s ready.” up the stairs to judge if it will be an issue for you. Make sure you feel like you can scold some with the name: “[name_f]Aurora[/name_f] you shouldn’t have crossed the street without asking.” because no matter how perfect the kid is, she’ll still make mistakes.

Lots of really good points made here! Thank you guys!

I really like [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]! I don’t have an issue saying it, although I imagine a young child would.
