Aurora

So, what do we think of it? I’ve been thinking about it for a while now, it seems to be a favourite here on nameberry, and I’m really starting to like it now! I love it’s meaning as well as references to it in literature and mythology plus the cute nn [name]Rory[/name]. Stumped on combos though, any suggestions for middle names to compliment [name]Aurora[/name]?

Oh, not expecting (far too young for that), this is just a bit of fun:) Thanks!

  • [name]Elena[/name]

Oh, thank-you [name]Susan[/name]! Those are great:) My favourites:

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] - So light, easy-breezy beauty. Uplifting too, just looking at it makes me happy:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] - “so beautiful!” - I agree! I wonder what [name]Delphi[/name] means or what references are made to it in history/literature…

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]June[/name] - Newly loving [name]June[/name], seems like a quirkier take on [name]Jane[/name] to me.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Louise[/name] - “love it!” - Me too! So very classy:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Mae[/name] - Sweet and bouncy but with style!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Maeve[/name] - [name]Just[/name] love [name]Maeve[/name]'s meaning…

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Millicent[/name] - Sounds very English to me, up-market chic if you know what I mean.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Opal[/name] - A gem! Does it run together though?

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Pauline[/name] - “love!” I can see why:) I’m not so keen on [name]Pauline[/name]'s meaning though but I think a middle name with an ‘een’ ending compliment [name]Aurora[/name] perfectly.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Thisbe[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] this! Not sure I’m pronouncing it correctly though… [name]How[/name] is it pronounced?

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Vivian[/name] - I normally prefer [name]Vivian[/name] spelt [name]Vivienne[/name] but with [name]Aurora[/name] I think [name]Vivian[/name] works beautifully

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Yvette[/name] - I love names that end in ‘ette’ and [name]Yvette[/name] has such historical depth, I love the French heroine:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Zenobia[/name] - [name]Zenobia[/name] is top-notch for me! I love it when both names end in the same sound and it still works without sounding sing-songy. Also love how it uses both ends of the alphabet:)

Thanks again, [name]Susan[/name]

  • [name]Charlie[/name]

I like [name]Aurora[/name]!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Matilda[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Mireille[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Daisy[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Helen[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cordelia[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Willow[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Bridget[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Alice[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]

[name]Charlie[/name],

I think [name]Aurora[/name] is pretty, feminine, elegant, and emotive - in a mysterious sort of way. All those things make me love it! However, I find the name difficult to say sometimes - I get tongue-tied on the repeated R’s in the name (same with its nickname, [name]Rory[/name]!)…

So, due to that fact, I wouldn’t personally consider the name, but it is pretty, so here are some combinations:

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Brynn[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cate[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Faye[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]June[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Lux[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Quinn[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Wynne[/name]

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Charlotte[/name] - for you!
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Gwendolyn[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Harriet[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Lucienne[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Marigold[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Naomi[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Vivian[/name]

Good luck!

[name]Lemon[/name]

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Elena[/name]! These look fantastic:) Let’s see…

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Saffron[/name] - I love the heat and creativity this combo conjures up! I’m a huge fan of more ‘out-there’ middle names and [name]Saffron[/name] is my favourite spice! (along with [name]Cinnamon[/name])

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Felicity[/name] - This has such a wonderful meaning:) Like [name]Blythe[/name], [name]Felicity[/name] sounds so peaceful and carefree to me but still sounds refined and graceful. I love the flow of this combo too.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cosette[/name] - [name]Love[/name] ‘ette’ endings and this flows wonderfully, [name]Cosette[/name] still seems undiscovered to me which I think accounts for most of its charm.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Hollis[/name] - Great flow but I’m not the biggest [name]Hollis[/name] fan. I do admire it sleekness and androgynous feel though:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Seren[/name] - [name]LOVE[/name] this! ‘[name]Dawn[/name] [name]Star[/name]’ is such a magical meaning! This is definitely a winner:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name] - Huge fan of [name]Josephine[/name] which is weird for me because I don’t like [name]Joseph[/name] and I try to avoid most names with a strong religious meaning but I just can’t shake my love of [name]Josephine[/name]! I’m loving the flow of this combo too:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Camille[/name] - Stunning pair, quite exotic without sounding unfamiliar or foreign.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name] - I’ve always loved [name]Xanthe[/name] ever since I saw a gardener at the [name]Chelsea[/name] flower show with that name on TV ages ago. Loving the flow too:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Celeste[/name] - Absolutely gorgeous! [name]Celestia[/name] is high on my favourites list simply because I love it’s meaning so much and meanings don’t get much better than ‘[name]Heavenly[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]’ in my opinion:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Noemi[/name] - I like [name]Naomi[/name]… haven’t heard of [name]Noemi[/name] before though, this one does have a lovely flow.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Persephone[/name] - [name]Persephone[/name] is like my FAVOURITE name [name]EVER[/name]!! My joy for it could be compared to the incident with [name]Tom[/name] [name]Cruise[/name] on [name]Oprah[/name] Winfrey’s couch, I just love it so so much! I fear [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Persephone[/name] could be a bit of a mythical overload though? Too much [name]Goddess[/name] as so it might be perceived as trying too hard? Maybe not, they do sound delightful together:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Violet[/name] - So elegant but I’d be a wee bit worried at the prospect of a purple dawn (I tend to see names very literally). It’s meaning reminds me of the legendary [name]Jimi[/name] [name]Hendrix[/name] song ‘Purple [name]Haze[/name]’ and I’m a major [name]Hendrix[/name] fan:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Jasmine[/name] - Very ‘Disney princess’ to me, it does have a wonderful, rich, exotic feel to it though and the two names work so well together:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cecily[/name] - It saddens me so much how my love for a name can be completely ruined by its meaning. [name]Cecily[/name] is forever a no-go for me now that I’ve found out it means ‘blind’:frowning: This combo is beautiful though and if it weren’t for the meaning I would love it to bits.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name] - Gorgeous. Such a strong combo with a great flow:) [name]Genevieve[/name] is an in-between name for me, some days it’s ‘in’ and some days it’s ‘out’ and then it all depends with what it’s paired with.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Carmel[/name] - It’s amazing the difference one letter makes. When I was in primary school we had a wonderful neighbour named [name]Carmel[/name] who was an avid gardener and so warm and friendly. She was an older woman with orange-y hair who had several cats and always seemed tired though so that is the image [name]Carmel[/name] is tied to for me. [name]Carmen[/name], however is a youthful, enticing name with great character and even a certain amount of flair. I have this image ever since I read the first of the ‘Sisterhood of the Travelling Pants’ books and it stuck:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] - [name]Penelope[/name] is an almost name for me. I love it’s sound and the way it looks on paper but it’s meaning ‘duck’ leaves me very underwhelmed. I also go to school with an incredibly popular ‘barbie-esque’ [name]Penelope[/name] so I can’t really get past that. [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Penelope[/name] is a darling combo though:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name] - Okay this is embarrassing but when I first heard of the name [name]Jessamine[/name] I though it was some kind of try-hard invented hybrid of [name]Jessica[/name] and [name]Jasmine[/name]. Oh how wrong I was! Luckily I never posted that comment on NB because my opinion has quickly changed. I now think [name]Jessamine[/name] is one of the prettiest names out there but has always been a little too much for me. I’m loving it paired with [name]Aurora[/name] though…

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name] - Such an appropriate pairing, ‘[name]Red[/name] [name]Dawn[/name]’ conjures up such a warming, bold image but I can’t get that strange old saying out of mind; ‘[name]Red[/name] sky at night shepherd’s delight. [name]Red[/name] sky in the morning shepherd’s warning’. It was worries me a bit now when there is a red sky in the morning. Weird, I know.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Niamh[/name] - Oh this is one of those beautiful Irish names I have no idea how to pronounce! [name]How[/name] is [name]Niamh[/name] pronounced? I’d really love to know now!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Zoe[/name] - This one gets a bit muddled when I say it, I love the ‘life’ names but [name]Zo[/name]” seems a little clouded to me because I’ve known so many [name]Zo[/name]”'s. It hasn’t completely lost its charm but I prefer [name]Eve[/name], [name]Eva[/name], [name]Vida[/name] or [name]Vivienne[/name].

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Florence[/name] - Slightly ‘r’-heavy but nevertheless stunning! I’m so in love with the name [name]Florence[/name], even more so now after recently discovering it on my family tree! I was way too excited, I think:) Also love the connection to [name]Florence[/name] Nightingale.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Catherine[/name] - So beautiful:) My feelings on [name]Catherine[/name] are dependent on its spelling though, I adore [name]Catherine[/name], [name]Catharine[/name] and [name]Katherine[/name] are tolerated but in my opinion chipping the shine off [name]Catherine[/name] and then the [name]Kathryn[/name] spelling just ruins it for me. I have two cousins who spell their name [name]Kathryn[/name] and I have an overwhelming urge to change it to [name]Catherine[/name] every time I see it written down! Sorry about the rant:) I love the meaning and flow of this combo.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Estelle[/name] - Not my favourite of the star names although I do appreciate it’s beauty, I prefer [name]Esther[/name] or [name]Seren[/name] as you previously mentioned. The two names seem to run together when I say them too.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Verity[/name] - A wee bit too ‘r’-heavy but I love how it looks written down:) Overall I prefer [name]Vera[/name] over [name]Verity[/name] too.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Tamsin[/name] - Great flow and I love the fresh, understated style of [name]Tamsin[/name] but I’m a little put off by it’s meaning. Like a said, I take meaning quite literally and if it means ‘twin’ it seems only to be appropriate for one to me.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] - I [name]LOVE[/name] [name]Pearl[/name]! [name]Gem[/name] names are my new favourite theme! [name]Pearl[/name], [name]Opal[/name], [name]Ruby[/name] and [name]Gemma[/name] are the best in my opinion:) I love the feel of [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Pearl[/name] but it sounds funny when I say it out loud.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Frances[/name] - [name]Frances[/name] is very special to me because of its link to [name]Charlotte[/name]. The both mean ‘free woman’ and are both the feminine form of masculine names used a lot in my family. [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Frances[/name] is divine!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Juliet[/name] - I prefer the [name]Juliette[/name] spelling and I [name]LOVE[/name] it! I love its meaning, its use in literature and that all important ‘ette’ ending:) This combo is amazing!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Carys[/name] - [name]Carys[/name] is such a darling name:) It also has special significance for me as it’s a combined way of honouring my mum. Her first name is french and it means ‘beloved’ and her mn is Welsh so when I found [name]Carys[/name] which is Welsh and means ‘love’ I was over the moon! [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Carys[/name] is definitely one of my favourites:)

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Bronte[/name] - Another ‘r’-heavy combo but that can be overlooked because I [name]LOVE[/name] Bront” and [name]Aurora[/name] Bront” sounds amazing together! Bront” has such great literary meaning and so much vintage charm, its almost impossible not to like:) I also prefer Bront” with an umlaut over the ‘e’ like [name]Zo[/name]”.

Wow! Thank-you so much, I was spoiled for choice with that list, [name]Elena[/name] There were so many names I love but my favourites are:

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Felicity[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Seren[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Josephine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Xanthe[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Celeste[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Genevieve[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Jessamine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Scarlett[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Florence[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Catherine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Frances[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Juliet/name
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Carys[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] Bront”

Which one do you like best?

  • [name]Charlie[/name]

P.S: I’m glad you liked the blueberry muffins:)

Hello! Is [name]Iris[/name] [name]Rose[/name] your actual name or a screen name? Either way it’s gorgeous:)

My favourites from your list:

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Matilda[/name] - I love this because it sounds very Australian to me:) I think it needs another mn in between [name]Aurora[/name] and [name]Matilda[/name] just to break it up and create a better flow.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Vivienne[/name] - I love [name]Vivienne[/name] spelt this way:) Sounds so elegant and melodic, I love these two together.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Daisy[/name] - Whimsical and fresh, I love how [name]Daisy[/name] can be used as two names in one; a flower and a diminutive of [name]Margaret[/name].

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Willow[/name] - I love the natural feel of this combo, [name]Willow[/name] has a charming, haunting quality about it and balances [name]Aurora[/name] beautifully.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Delphine[/name] - See my comment replying to [name]Susan[/name]'s post.

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Naomi[/name] - Simple yet beautiful, I love the meaning and flow of this:)

Thank-you for your suggestions!

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Lemon[/name]!

I love your description of [name]Aurora[/name], that’s exactly how I see it and why I love it:) I see what you mean about the 'r’s making it a bit of a mouthful but I don’t see that as so much of a problem, if anything it adds something… extra.

Now, onto your suggestions! Actually… I’m a wee bit tired so I’ll come back to those later to give them full concentration and be able to provide appropriate responses and comments. It looks like an amazing list though:)

P.S: I’m glad you liked the blueberry muffins:)[/quote]

[name]Hi[/name]!

I think my favourites are [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Camille[/name] and [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Seren[/name] and maybe [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Saffron[/name], oh I just can’t choose!

[name]Niamh[/name] is pronounced like Neev and it means ‘radiance, brilliance’, I think it amazing with [name]Aurora[/name]; radiant/ brilliant dawn.

It’s funny what you said about [name]Carmel[/name] as well because I was deliberating for a while whether to put [name]Carmel[/name] or [name]Carmen[/name], I haven’t heard of anybody with either name but to me [name]Carmel[/name] sounds softer and more delicate than the lively, confident [name]Carmen[/name], I can’t decide which I like better though.

[name]Glad[/name] you liked so many!

  • [name]Charlie[/name][/quote]

[name]Charlie[/name], glad you love these combos. [name]Thisbe[/name] is pronounced Thizz-bee, I think. Yeah, [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] is looking pretty amazing to me today! Means “happy dawn”, I think.

Ooh…I love [name]Aurora[/name]! I think it’s elegant, feminine, peaceful, and ethereal.

I’m sure most have these have been suggested, so I’m sorry for repeats!

[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Blythe[/name] (Wait…I think [name]Susan[/name] mentioned this! I love it)
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Camille[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Delphine[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Jane[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]May[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Maeve[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Simone[/name]
[name]Aurora[/name] [name]Violet[/name]

Again, I’m sorry for repeats!

Take care! (Is the F poll coming soon?)

  • [name]Charlie[/name]

P.S: [name]Jill[/name], the ‘F’ poll will be making an appearance very shortly:)

I think [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Saffron[/name] is very pretty!
[name]Charlie[/name], I read that you don’t like the way [name]Penelope[/name] means “duck”. One of the reasons I love the name [name]Penelope[/name] so much is because of its meaning. I think of a big white duck with an orange bill and orange legs. I love this children’s book called “The [name]Story[/name] of Ping”.

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Susan[/name]

Point taken on [name]Penelope[/name]. I like ducks too, not a big fan but I’ve got nothing against them. I love seeing all the little ducklings in spring and feeding my crusts to the ducks at the pond in the park. My [name]Nana[/name] is a big fan of ducks (along with frogs) also:)

I will take a dig at myself here too because I generally love names because they have a bird meaning, [name]Alouette[/name], [name]Paloma[/name], [name]Jemima[/name], [name]Jonah[/name] for example but I can’t love [name]Penelope[/name]. I think though, and no offense to ducks here, that it’s because birds like larks or sparrows or doves are more symbolic and meaningful in culture or literature or history so it gives those names more depth. Also, and this is stupid I know, larks, sparrows and doves are always flying in my mind, giving them freedom, whilst ducks I can only ever see in my imagination as swimming and I think of the saying ‘sitting ducks’.

Anyway, that’s enough philosophical rambling from me. And on the subject of kids books, I used to love [name]Jemima[/name] Puddle Duck:)

  • [name]Charlie[/name]

hmmm…My best friends name is [name]Aurora[/name] [name]Alexandra[/name] and she totally despises her name, I guess that’s because here in Mexico it’s kinda a name only grandmothers have. She goes by [name]Alexa[/name] and will give hell to anyone that calls her [name]Rora[/name] or [name]Rory[/name]…
She goes by [name]Alexa[/name] but we call her [name]Dawn[/name]…

[name]Hi[/name] [name]Susan[/name]

I wonder why I love ducks? It’s odd. But I don’t like those '80’s country ducks with the ribbons around their necks.

I really like it in full–the three syllables, the A-initial, the association with the dawn and northern lights, the uncommon but familiar quality, etc. I think a lot of girls would be excited to have a Disney princess name but I don’t think it’s too closely associated with that since she’s usually just referred to as Sleeping Beauty. [name]Rory[/name]'s not bad as far as nicknames go but just not my style.
