Austin or Ashton

Almost there with baby boy number 2. We are deciding on [name_m]Austin[/name_m] or [name_u]Ashton[/name_u]. Not keen on Aussie for short for [name_m]Austin[/name_m], hence the direction for [name_u]Ashton[/name_u]. Middle name would be [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. Thoughts?

[name_u]Ashton[/name_u] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]
[name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]

I prefer [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. It’s my cousins name and he has never had it shortened.

I prefer [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. I have known two, neither have gone by anything but [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. Besides Aussie is the same length and syllable count as [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. I cannot see people trying to use it. If people do try, you and [name_m]Austin[/name_m] can correct them.

I prefer [name_u]Ashton[/name_u].

Definitely [name_m]Austin[/name_m]/[name_u]Austen[/name_u]

[name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]! Very handsome, and since it’s only two syllables I doubt you’d get it shortened. I’ve never heard Aussie as a nickname for [name_m]Austin[/name_m] (or indeed any other name, now I come to think of it).

[name_u]Ashton[/name_u] for the nickname!

I prefer [name_m]Austin[/name_m] definitely. I don’t think there is any need for a nickname. [name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m] is perfection. I love to see the repetition of the “u” is in each name.

Thanks all - some really nice & valuable comments here that I did not think of

Another vote for [name_m]Austin[/name_m]. I think it is a name with a lot of dignity, without being unapproachable or pretentious. [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] just doesn’t measure up in my opinion.

Definitely [name_m]Austin[/name_m] [name_m]Paul[/name_m]. I’ve known so many people with [name_u]Ash[/name_u] names that it has felt stale to me. [name_m]Austin[/name_m] doesn’t need to be called anything other than [name_m]Austin[/name_m].
