I’m sure many berries can sympathise with me when it comes time to choose names with your partner and they don’t like any of your carefully thought out choices that you’ve been lusting after for years…well the time has come for me to go through this pain-staking process for a second time. Thankfully, we are pretty agreeable with boy’s names. While my partner has come around to a few names I like, he prefers shorter and generally more popular names. Quite a few of the names we are currently considering are in the current top 100 for a Australia and I would prefer something less popular…we ended up with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] for our first born and I love it and do not regret it, but have only personally heard of or known two other’s.
[name_m]How[/name_m] many children with the below names do you know or know of personally? And if you don’t mind sharing, what state/territory are you in?
Hey, I’m in [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] and work with kids so hear a lot of names! I love [name_f]Olive[/name_f], so so sweet!!
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I know of three, one nn Ted and the other two nn [name_u]Theo[/name_u], I feel like it gives you some options for individuality if there did happen to be another in their class or something
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - none
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - 1, and she’s only about 3 months old.
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - none
I see around 10 kids between newborn and 6 years old per week and haven’t come across any Harriets or Penelopes so I would say they’re fairly unusual.
For a girl I would personally vote for [name_f]Harriet[/name_f], it goes beautifully with [name_f]Olive[/name_f] I think Theodore goes really well with Olive and although it is a little more on the popular side, it’s so timeless and classic that it isn’t popular in a way that feels trendy.
[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I live in [name_m]New[/name_m] Zealand and also spend a lot of time around kids, which is close enough, right?
[name_m]Theodore[/name_m] - I know more who are simply ‘[name_u]Theo[/name_u]’. I know 3 Theos and 1 [name_m]Theodore[/name_m].
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - I know one young [name_f]Harriet[/name_f].
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - None
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - I know one young [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
I’d say [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] / [name_u]Theo[/name_u] is increasingly common, whereas the other 3 are more unique. All are nice though. My vote goes to [name_f]Penelope[/name_f].
i’m further north of [name_u]Sydney[/name_u].
[name_f]Harriet[/name_f] - know about one aged 22
[name_u]Frankie[/name_u] - none
[name_f]Penelope[/name_f] - one aged 22, one aged 16
I love the name [name_f]Olive[/name_f], we considered it for our daughter (or rather I did - my partner wasn’t as into it as me unfortunately).
Anyway, I’m from [name_u]Sydney[/name_u] and know 2 little Frankies but feel like I’ve come across quite a a few on Instagram, Australians and otherwise, no Penelopes and one little [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] (and a couple of grown ups with the name).
I’ve taught a couple of teenaged Theodores but don’t personally know any little ones; I do follow one or two women on Instagram with little Theodores though. I also know an adult [name_u]Theo[/name_u]. I really love the name and its nicknames and although it’s somewhat popular it’s also classic and timeless.
My favourites are [name_u]Frankie[/name_u] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] although I do also like [name_f]Penelope[/name_f] and [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]. I understand your concerns about popularity though; we ruled out [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] for my daughter born a few days ago because of its popularity.
Thank you all so much for your insight! It has definitely eased my mind. I’m hoping I don’t hear of any babies born with any of these names for the rest of the year…or my partner comes around to some of my more unpopular choices. ”
