What are your thoughts? I’ve always thought of the Australian lists as being somewhere in between the UK and US lists.

There’s four of my favourite names on the list this year. :frowning: [name_m]Henry[/name_m] at #20, [name_f]Harriet[/name_f] at #87, [name_m]Felix[/name_m] at #89, and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] at #96.

I’m thrilled none of my faves are on there! surprised there aren’t more ‘old fashioned’ names like [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and Aila or [name_f]Mabel[/name_f] as I’ve noticed lots of Australian friends calling their kids stuff like that the last few years! maybe that trend is on its way out?

Most of the names we are going to use as FNs are not on the list but MNs are and names we like but are not in the top/alpha combos. The only concerns are about is [name_f]Lilia[/name_f], [name_f]Lara[/name_f] names (if people like [name_f]Lara[/name_f] they may search for similar names) and [name_f]Maia[/name_f].

  1. [name_f]Mia[/name_f] & [name_m]Jack[/name_m] - I thought these would be lower
  2. [name_f]Lily[/name_f] - Makes me not want to use [name_f]Lilia[/name_f]!
  3. [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] - I love [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]. I can’t beleive this is popular. I am guessing due to [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] played by [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] Breeds on Home and Away?
  4. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] & [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m]- [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is surprising. [name_f]Grace[/name_f] not so much, just a favourite name
  5. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] - Newly discovered name I am loving…
  6. [name_f]Scarlett[/name_f] - A favourite but it is in a MN spot.
  7. [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] & [name_m]Henry[/name_m] - [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is being used more than I thought. I love [name_m]Henry[/name_m], Once Upon A Time push this up? A lot of my friends like the show.
  8. [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] & [name_u]Hunter[/name_u] - They are surprisingly high.
  9. [name_f]Willow[/name_f] - No! fudgealls This is one of my top names.
  10. [name_f]Layla[/name_f] & [name_m]Leo[/name_m] - I thought [name_m]Leo[/name_m] would be higher.
  11. [name_f]Mila[/name_f]/[name_f]Milla[/name_f] - I thought this would be higher.
  12. [name_f]Audrey[/name_f] - No :frowning:
  13. [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] - I’m guessing [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] and [name_m]Orlando[/name_m] are to blame for this still?
  14. [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m] - This is surprising.
  15. [name_f]Maya[/name_f] - [name_f]Maia[/name_f] is a favourite of mine
  16. [name_u]Luca[/name_u] - I have been hearing this alot especially on toddler 2-4. Guessing [name_u]Hilary[/name_u] [name_u]Duff[/name_u] is to blame?
  17. [name_f]Lola[/name_f] & [name_m]Hugo[/name_m] - This is a little surprising.
  18. [name_u]Ashton[/name_u] - I can deal with names past #60 but this is not pleasing to see
  19. [name_u]Owen[/name_u] - I thought this would be lower
  20. [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] & [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] - Loving [name_f]Hazel[/name_f] and I would use [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] if I don’t use [name_m]Conrad[/name_m]… I love [name_m]Dominic[/name_m] as a MN.

I think this is all surprising as I have never seen the Australian Top 100 name list before so I don’t know what to expect.

The names sound right on for what I am hearing.

[name_u]Ruby[/name_u] was also the last ‘baby’ born for [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] Gibney on ‘Packed to the Rafters’. [name_f]Rebecca[/name_f] is a very popular TV personality don’t you think?.
I know half a dozen Lachlans -(I must live in trendy ‘set’) – This is the 2nd big spike for that name –the other was 35-40 years ago.

[name_f]Grace[/name_f] is almost evergreen the last 15 years.

[name_f]Isla[/name_f] – [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m]!

[name_f]Matilda[/name_f] is folklore for Australia. I know a few sporting celebs trending that way.

I imagine [name_m]Henry[/name_m] will be known as [name_m]Harry[/name_m]’s? The prince is popular but it’s also an old favorite along with [name_m]Jack[/name_m] and [name_m]Tom[/name_m].

[name_f]Ivy[/name_f] has been used by a few elite too without counting less public couples.

Poor [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] :-{ – maybe but I think the [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] history is still there too.
Thanks so much for posting that . Many names I love but I thought they were that popular.

I agree that it’s definitely a mix of UK/US. You have some of the popular ([name_f]Imogen[/name_f], [name_f]Harriet[/name_f]) and nicknamey names seen in the UK, but with a dash of US trendiness of occupation names. I did notice that with [name_f]Evie[/name_f], [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u], and [name_f]Eva[/name_f] there seems to be a popular sound over there.

For the girls, not at all surprised to see [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f], [name_f]Mia[/name_f], [name_f]Ava[/name_f], [name_f]Emily[/name_f], and [name_u]Ruby[/name_u] at the top. These have been on the increase the last few years, and I know little ones with all of these names, including two Avas! These have definitely seemed the popular names for me for the last 2-3 years.

[name_f]Mia[/name_f] has been up there ever since the Hewitts ([name_m]Lleyton[/name_m] and [name_m]Bec[/name_m]) named their first daughter [name_f]Mia[/name_f] back in 2005. I really liked the choice at the time. I saw a big upswing for [name_f]Mia[/name_f] after that. Funnily enough, their second daughter is [name_f]Ava[/name_f].

[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] and [name_f]Ivy[/name_f] are the other ones that I’ve noticed have jumped up in the last few years. [name_f]Imogen[/name_f] has been in the top 100 a long time, as has [name_f]Matilda[/name_f] for obvious reasons. [name_f]Isla[/name_f] wasn’t that common back when [name_f]Isla[/name_f] [name_m]Fisher[/name_m] was on Home and Away in the 90s, but it’s picked up a lot in recent years, following the UK trend. It’s not surprising though, I’ve seen and heard of it since I was a young teen in the 90s.

[name_f]Jessica[/name_f] and [name_f]Emma[/name_f] have definitely fallen from their top five heights a few years ago, and I think have fallen a bit more here than in the UK?

Kind of surprised to see [name_f]Elsie[/name_f] in there, I adore this name! I don’t mind it being around where it is (65ish on quick count).

Other surprises: [name_f]Aaliyah[/name_f], [name_f]Lacey[/name_f], and [name_u]Peyton[/name_u] - didn’t realise these US names were being used much here at all.

For the boys, [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] is no surprise at all for me, it’s been around a long time (the [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] river, named after [name_m]Governor[/name_m] [name_m]Lachlan[/name_m] Macquarie, etc), Lachlans and Lachie’s in TV and books, etc.

[name_m]Cooper[/name_m] is one I’ve noticed rise up the last five years or so. A colleague named their son [name_m]Cooper[/name_m] in 2010 and it was just getting a bit of traction then.

I would have thought [name_m]Jack[/name_m] could be the number one - I know a lot of little Jacks under five! I agree with the PP about [name_u]Flynn[/name_u], it probably did get traction after [name_f]Miranda[/name_f] [name_u]Kerr[/name_u] but it does also have that [name_m]Errol[/name_m] [name_u]Flynn[/name_u] association.

[name_u]Jayden[/name_u] (really? still?), [name_m]Lincoln[/name_m], [name_m]Fletcher[/name_m], [name_m]Braxton[/name_m] (!) and [name_u]Carter[/name_u] really surprise me for the boys. Again, I just didn’t think these names were used here very much at all. And [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] also is a surprise to me, I know two girls who are [name_u]Phoenix[/name_u] so I just associate it with girls more than boys myself.

I’ve always thought Australia was a bit of a nice mix between UK and US too, with slightly more UK leanings. But maybe it’s slightly more even than I realised!

My favourite name [name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is crawling up the ranks! I hope it stops or goes down just a little. Hopefully we’ll conceive soon - lets just hope we have a girl so I can give her the name whilst its still somewhat ‘uncommon.’

[name_f]Sienna[/name_f] is number 20 in the UK where I live, yet I rarely hear of the name here.

I will most definitely be using this to help me with boys names!
