Ava is one of our top choices for our daughter. I really love the meaning ‘life’ which has a ton if significance for us….but we are still weighing it against a few other names. (Sophie, Penelope, Isabel & Hazel) the combos we are considering are Ava Marigold or Ava Josephine
Im really wanting some opinions on how this name feels. In my Baby Name book its classified as a Vintage Charm name (which are my favorite category) but I’m finding that family & friends feel its really modern. Thoughts?
I realize it has been very popular. I don’t mind that as much. I am looking for a sweet soft name and wondering what feeling you get when u hear Ava.
Thanks!
ava feels very modern to me
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] is primarily modern to me but I also see it as vintage in some contexts. For example I had the first name/middle name combo [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Maude[/name_f] on my list at one point and it felt very vintage, Old Hollywood glamorous to me.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] to me is sweet and lively, it’s spirited and sparkly and bright. I think it would feel more vintage to me with a vintage middle name, or if [name_f]Ava[/name_f] had siblings with vintage names.
definitely super modern to me!
Another vote for modern!
I suppose it’s got a timeless feeling because it’s originally medieval, and it’s got that vintage thing with Ava Gardner, but it’s really trending now so feels modern as well. It’s a very pretty name and your combos are stunning!
definitely a modern name for me!
I think it feels modern now due to its popularity.
I really love [name_f]Ava[/name_f], and I still see the vintage charm in it. I think it helps that, even though I’ve been aware of its popularity for a couple of decades AND am in the season of life where I’m raising young children, I’ve still never met one single [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. Two [name_m]Adas[/name_m], an [name_u]Avi[/name_u], two Avelyns, but not an [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. It fits a young child but still sounds grown-up and mature.
While I know it was used in the past, it does very much feel like a modern name to me. I’ve got quite a number of Avas at work (teens) and taught several at my old job (four to seven year olds). It’s high popularity is certainly a recent thing, which gives it that modern vibe.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is a lovely combo [name_f]Ava[/name_f] gives me a warm, cheerful feel with a bit of kick
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] is pure vintage to me! I adore [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] and [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f].
Of course vintage =) … just currently popular. It was fully revived
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] feels modern to me, but still with a bit of Old Hollywood glamour due to the [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_u]Gardner[/name_u] association.
Modern and trendy
It does feel modern to me because my only association is the modern popularity boom but I think pairing it with [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] helps pull it more vintage because [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] has more of that classy Old Hollywood vibe people have mentioned.
It is vintage to me, very old Hollywood. A variation, like [name_u]Avery[/name_u], would be modern to me.
Despite its popularity, I still really like [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. All the other names you mentioned are equally if not more “modern”. If you love it, go for it! I think [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f] is slightly more vintage-revival than [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] to me but both are gorgeous.
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] feels very modern to me, I know lots of young Ava’s but no older ones. [name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is a lovely combo
It’s a revived classic, like [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] and [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]. It’s been in the top 1000 for over a hundred years, so I’d hardly call it modern, but it’s also not quite vintage because it…never fell out of style, I suppose. It’s just a classic!
[name_f]Ava[/name_f] [name_f]Marigold[/name_f] is delightful.
All I think of is the dozens of Avas I have taught.
