Hello everyone! [name_f]Hope[/name_f] you’re well.
So, I’m writing a [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] fanfiction set in 1977 (the character was born in 1960) and I really need help with her name. At first, she was going to be called [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] ([name_m]Prewett[/name_m] as the last name), but then I started to wonder and maybe [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] is not the best fit for her (or maybe I just don’t like the name too much). So, she’s a redhead, quite tall, has light-hazel eyes and she’s somewhat bad-tempered and arrogant, but she’s also charismatic and fun to be around when she’s not being mean.
The two names I have in mind are, obviously, [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f], but my other option is [name_f]Aurora[/name_f]. If you have another idea, feel free to tell me. Also, the name doesn’t have to start with A, I don’t know why all of my options start with A lol.
If it helps, her siblings are called [name_f]Molly[/name_f], [name_m]Fabian[/name_m] and [name_m]Gideon[/name_m].
Thanks a lot <3
I think [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] doesn’t really fit in with her other sibling names, and I feel that [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m] doesn’t flow as well as it should (not that it flows all that badly).
If you want to keep with the options you listed, I’d say go with [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. It fits her personality better than a gentle, soft name like “[name_f]Aurora[/name_f]” (which I kind of associate with Sleeping Beauty), and it’d fit in with her siblings much better.
Some other options:
[name_u]Rowan[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_u]Rory[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Poppy[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m] (if you want to go for a name that contrasts her personality, since it’s a flower name, but still has a shorter, ‘harsher’ sound than [name_f]Aurora[/name_f])
[name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m] (Can be nicknamed “[name_u]Abby[/name_u]” or “[name_u]Gale[/name_u] / [name_f]Gail[/name_f]”)
[name_u]Alex[/name_u] / [name_f]Alexa[/name_f] / [name_u]Alexis[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Julliana[/name_f] / [name_f]Juliana[/name_f] / [name_f]Julianna[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Genevieve[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_m]Jasper[/name_m] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_u]Reed[/name_u] / [name_u]Reid[/name_u] / [name_m]Rheed[/name_m] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Aileen[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Brianna[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_u]Cassidy[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Cassie[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_u]Roan[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Anna[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Hannah[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Calla[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Aster[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Daphne[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Erica[/name_f] / [name_f]Erika[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_u]Florian[/name_u] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Florine[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Heather[/name_f] [name_m]Prewett[/name_m]
[name_f]Astrid[/name_f] by a mile–[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] is just too weird, even for wizards.
[name_m]Even[/name_m] [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]'s I’m not a huge fan of–most of the character in [name_m]Harry[/name_m] [name_m]Potter[/name_m] have either very English names or Latin/Greek names, and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] is neither. It doesn’t fit. It would really jar me to have [name_f]Molly[/name_f] have a sister named [name_f]Astrid[/name_f]. I would expect a reason to be given for the name.
I agree with the previous posters. [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] sounds better with the last name and sibling names, and I think it suits her personality and appearance a lot better as well. I adore [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] too, which probably sways my opinion a little bit.
[name_f]Avalon[/name_f] kind of seems like a… cliché name? I don’t, there’s just something about it that doesn’t quiet appeal to me. [name_f]Aurora[/name_f] suits the sibling names and last name well, but it seems like a name for a girl with a very gentle personality, which doesn’t really fit the personality you described.
Thanks for your help!
Still, (omg I can’t even handle myself) I now have other options. It’s [name_f]Aileen[/name_f] (one of my favorite names, but I have a hard time seeing the character with this name. Possible, but hard), [name_f]Grace[/name_f] (perhaps one of the most fitting, I guess?) and [name_f]Astrid[/name_f] (considering as a last resort, if I can’t think of anything else)
