[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] (mn [name_u]Ruby[/name_u]) is the no 1 contender for one of our identical twin girls, due next year, but I have a few questions.
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it?
Does the Av- beginning mean it will be shortened to [name_f]Ava[/name_f], or do you think it could skyrocket in popularity?
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] OR [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]?
Is it unique and different enough to stand next to her twins name, [name_f]Milena[/name_f]?
I prefer [name_f]Avalon[/name_f], I would pronounce [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] - Av-uh-lyn. [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Milena[/name_f] or [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] or [name_f]Milena[/name_f] are both fine, but I think [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Milena[/name_f] compliments each other nicely.
I much prefer [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] to [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]. For some reason the -on ending in [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] appears masculine to me, and I think [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] is a better match with [name_f]Milena[/name_f]. At first glance I would pronounce it ‘av-eh-LEEN’, but I’m not a Native English speaker.
Please excuse my frankness, but I hate the name [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]. I don’t find it very cute or endearing.
As for [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], it would probably depend. My instinct is [name_f]Ave[/name_f]-uh-line unless otherwise corrected. Have you considered [name_f]Adeline[/name_f] instead?
I had considered this for my daughter, loving [name_f]Ava[/name_f] but wanting to explore some other similar options. I pronounce it, off the cuff, as “Av-uh-leen” and my next would be the “line” ending. In fact, if I were to read this name, I’d probably wonder if they say it this way or that way or that other way (-lyn), which in the end turned me off to the name. I also found that I loved [name_f]Ava[/name_f] all by itself too much.
I don’t think it would be shortened to [name_f]Ava[/name_f] unless you wanted it to, or she wanted it to. I do think that considering [name_f]Ava[/name_f] is so popular and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] trendy, “Av” names are likely to follow, and probably already have.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f].
I think [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Milena[/name_f] sound very nice together.
I would pronounce it [name_m]Ah[/name_m] - veh - leen .
I like both [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] & [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] but I think [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] is a showstopper . Absolutely gorgeous .
[name_m]How[/name_m] would you pronounce it? Av-eh-line for me.
Does the Av- beginning mean it will be shortened to [name_f]Ava[/name_f], or do you think it could skyrocket in popularity? I think some people will call her [name_f]Ava[/name_f], but you can mostly avoid it if you insist on calling her [name_f]Aveline[/name_f], or maybe using another nickname.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] OR [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]? Definitely [name_f]Aveline[/name_f].
I actually feel like it doesn’t quite roll off the tongue too well. It sounds very similar to [name_u]Evelyn[/name_u] to me - which is my mothers name and she absolutely hates her name, she got “Evil-lyn” alot. I think when you put the twin’s names side by side its a mouthfull (and twins’ names tend to be said in conjunction a lot). I think that I like [name_u]Avery[/name_u] as a better alternative, that’s just me sounding things out in my brain though.
I like both [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and [name_f]Avalon[/name_f] but with middle name [name_u]Ruby[/name_u], [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] is a better fit. A non-wordy, delicate name is lovely with [name_u]Ruby[/name_u].
I think it’s bound to increase in popularity, but it’ll hit a stopping point. I can see it in the US top 300 in the next few years, but only as a fad follow of to [name_f]Ava[/name_f]. I can’t see it ever being really huge. But this is pure speculation, and I’m not even in the US so by all means ignore me!
I love the name. If you’re not a gamer, there is a character in the Dragon Age series named [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] - a heroic and independent guard captain. Now I just see it as a strong name for a girl.
[name_f]Aveline[/name_f] is [name_m]French[/name_m], so it should be said like avenue. The ending is leen not lyn or line. I feel it is too close to [name_f]Milena[/name_f], since [name_f]Lena[/name_f] = leena.
I like [name_f]Aveline[/name_f] and prefer it to [name_f]Avalon[/name_f]! My first reaction would be to pronounce it differently than others, it seems. I would pronounce it Ay-va-leen, which I really like!
I would pronounce Aveline as “av-leena” because it’s French and that’s how you pronounce it in French. Aveline would have pronunciation issues and it’s too close to Milena. Avalon sounds like name of a night club (because it is the name of a night club) and I’m not a fan. There actually are a bunch of night clubs named Avalon (see: Avalon Hollywood for one example).
I think you said you wanted to chose Adeline but there’s a niece named Adelaide? If you really like Adeline, you can name her Adeline. It’s okay!
It’s not the exact same name as Adelaide, and they’ll be cousins not siblings, so I think that’s fine! My husband and one of his cousins have the exact same name (My MIL and her sister both named their sons the same thing) and it’s not a big deal. It’s fine. And it was literally the same name (David & David). I don’t think you should settle for a name that you don’t really like because the one you love is a bit similar to a cousin. Plus, the nameberry entry for Aveline says this (below) so just name her Adeline!
Nameberry: “Aveline is different enough to sound distinct, but be warned: You will forever be explaining that no, it’s not Adeline, not Evelyn, and so on.”
I say go for Milena & Adeline! But here are some other suggestions you might like just in case:
Milena &
Emmeline
Adele
Alice
Evangeline
Clementine
Petra
Hazel
