Avery for a boy

My heart is kinda crushed because ever since falling in love with the book [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]'s [name_m]Web[/name_m] as a little girl, my son was always going to be named [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

Fast forward 20 years later and I’m pregnant with a boy. I have a son, [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and now my husband says “this is [name_u]Avery[/name_u]”. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] & [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. I love it so much! So imagine my disappointment when I looked it up and it’s in the top GIRLS names for 2014. Total bummer! I really don’t want my son to run into a girl [name_u]Avery[/name_u] in school and feel any type of way about having the same name. For every 9000 girls named [name_u]Avery[/name_u], there’s 2000 boys. Augh!!!

I honestly don’t know what to do. I don’t want to give up [name_u]Avery[/name_u], he’s always been [name_u]Jude[/name_u]'s brother to us. My husband is a bit reluctant now but we’re both crushed. Opinions? Please don’t list a bunch of other names!

I think [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is still very much usable for a boy; as long as you’re prepared for some confusion (I don’t think it will be horrible though - coming from a guy with a unisex name himself) then go for it!

I would check the popularity charts for where you live and make your decision from those as names aren’t the same popularity in every area. I know two [name_u]Avery[/name_u]'s, a young man and a 6 year old girl.

To be honest, I was just thinking about names that work for boys and girls equally while driving the other day (name nerd anyone? ahahaha). [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is one of them that I, personally, view as could be either if I saw it on a piece of paper. However, I can see where your hesitation is coming from because it is unisex. My nickname is [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and I have gotten mistaken for a boy or have known boys who are Alexs too; I never thought my name was less than or masculine. Anyways, I think [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] are adorable together. I think you have name gold if you both love the name and the baby already feels like he’s an [name_u]Avery[/name_u].

I know three Averys; two little boys and a little girl, so I definitely think it can be used on a boy. I actually prefer it as a boy.

I think it actually sounds more masculine. And [name_u]Jude[/name_u] is unisex too so they make a nice set, apart from sounding perfect together.

If you love it, and especially if you have always loved it, go for it! It’s trendy for girls right now but that doesn’t mean it will become all girl, or that it will even skew female in future. I know Charlies, [name_u]Alexes[/name_u], Morgans etc. of both sexes who aren’t bothered by their unisex names.

We just named our little guy [name_u]Avery[/name_u]. I think it’s best on a boy. [name_u]Jude[/name_u] and [name_u]Avery[/name_u] are perfect brothers!

[name_u]Avery[/name_u] is all boy to me and I love the name. Go for it! It’s what you have always wanted to use and you both like it.

I think [name_u]Avery[/name_u] is still very much a boy’s name. I never would have considered it for a girl. At the most, it is definitely unisex. I would use it, if you love it so much. It say a past as a masculine name, and there is no rule to say that it can’t be now. Go for it, honey! Have your little prince that you have always wanted!

Please, please, please just use it. I guarantee your kid is not going to suffer horrible pains if he ever stumbles on a girl with its same name. It’s been happening to people named [name_u]Alex[/name_u] and [name_u]Sam[/name_u] for many, many decades, and nowadays it happens to the Rowans, the [name_m]Rivers[/name_m], and yes even the Judes. It’s fine! If you like a name just use it! You’re not naming him [name_f]Madeline[/name_f] or something, (which would also be fine since parents are naming their daughters [name_m]Wyatt[/name_m] and [name_u]James[/name_u] so whyyyy nottt). [name_m]Just[/name_m] do it.

Haha jonix couldn’t have said it better myself!

I totally see avery as a boys name. It’s ‘a very’ good name!
