Avigail or Abigail

[name_m]Hi[/name_m]

We are expecting a daughter. Our last name starts with [name_m]AB[/name_m] so thought [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] would be a better choice then the more traditional [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] it’s the Hebrew version and has a great meaning. Middle name [name_f]Jolie[/name_f]. Which do you prefer? Also what nicknames for [name_f]Avigail[/name_f]?

Thanks:)

Sadly [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] looks like a misspelling of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] matches more in style too. Have you considered Avigayil or Abigaia? Abigaia [name_f]Jolie[/name_f] looks so pretty! It is the Biblical Greek version.

It’s pretty but I have to agree it’s just too close to [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] - only one letter different means she will have to spend her whole life correcting everyone…

I know an [name_f]Avigail[/name_f]. She doesn’t like her name. She spends a lot of time correcting people, especially because “b” and “v” sound alike, so “[name_f]Avigail[/name_f]-with-a-v” is often mistaken for “[name_f]Abigail[/name_f]-with-a-b,” which of course only adds to the confusion. [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] is a legitimate and I think underused Hebrew form of the name, but the popularity of [name_f]Abigail[/name_f] makes it a bit of a headache.

I think [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] is beautiful but English speakers are likely to mistake it for the more familiar [name_f]Abigail[/name_f]. Unless you live in a Jewish community where [name_f]Avigail[/name_f] would be spelled and pronounced correctly I would recommend [name_f]Abigail[/name_f].
