Avis

I like the name [name]Avis[/name], but I think it sounds more like a boys name than a girls. What would you think about a boy named [name]Avis[/name]?

[name]Avis[/name] would not be my style. It reminds me of the international car rental company. I can’t see that not being the first thing most people would think of. However, if pressed I’d say it is better for a boy than girl. (Probably because of the strong car association in my mind).

I also thought of the car rental company immediately, however I also know someone with the last name [name]Avis[/name].[name]Even[/name] still, I quite like it and definitely see on a boy not a girl.

If you do a search a lot of sites say [name]Avis[/name] is a girl name but it’s unisex; it means bird

The only [name]Avis[/name] I’ve ever known is my male cousin.

With all the boy’s names going girl, I don’t think I’d hate seeing a girl’s name go boy for once. At the same time, though, I think it would be pretty confusing and a little bit difficult to deal with.

I love [name]Avis[/name] for a girl and have a hard time seeing it on a boy, but I don’t think it would be horrible.

I too thought of the rental company. Then I thought about how [name]Avis[/name], like [name]Mavis[/name], is (in my memory) traditionally female. But since it is not very popular and shares some harder sounds, I could see how it could go boy. But the rental car part would put me off.

In French, [name]Avis[/name] means “advice”. It’s not a person’s name in my vocabulary?

I knew an [name]Avis[/name] (girl) in junior high. I also thought of the car rental company when I read the first post.

I think its uncommon enough, and not obviously one or another in sound, that you could pull it off pretty easily.

[name]Avis[/name] picks you up!
