Axel or Alec

Which do you prefer?

I have two little boys named [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m], and I’m pregnant again.
I don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet but for a boy I like [name_m]Axel[/name_m] or [name_m]Alec[/name_m].

I liked [name_m]Axel[/name_m] at first but now I’m thinking maybe it’s too grungy, dirty or rebellious.

[name_m]Alec[/name_m] I think it’s very handsome and sweet and goes well with my boys names.
I suppose I worry perhaps it’s “boring” but I think it will age better.

Before anybody suggests [name_u]Alex[/name_u], I don’t like it.
It’s too common.

Any opinions appreciated.

I absolutely love [name_m]Axel[/name_m], but I do think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] goes better with your other two boys.

I think I prefer [name_m]Axel[/name_m]. [name_m]Alec[/name_m] sounds a little 80’s to me, though I’m not sure I can explain why. Anyway, don’t worry about what sounds good with the siblings - if you love either, go for it. And actually, I think that [name_m]Axel[/name_m] goes great, especially with [name_m]Otto[/name_m]!

I absolutely adore [name_m]Alec[/name_m], and I agree that it goes perfectly with your boys’ names. What a beautifully-named family you have! Best of luck

I’m loving [name_m]Alec[/name_m], I think its sleek and handsome. I don’t care for [name_m]Axel[/name_m] at all, it sounds trendy and your description is spot on, not a positve image at all.that’s just me, as I’m sure you will find heaps of people who think axel is great.

I also think alec is perfect with your sibset.

I love [name_m]Alec[/name_m] . I think its strong & handsome & I love it next to the two other boys . [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is nice too but its so trendy right now .

[name_m]Axel[/name_m], definitely. It goes great with your sibset and it’s perfect for a modern little boy.

[name_m]Axel[/name_m] feels like it’s trying way too hard to be cool or edgy, and it end up just falling flat for me. It does also have like a dirty/greasy feel to it.

[name_m]Alec[/name_m] i adore. It goes well with your other boys, too.

My vote goes strongly in favour of [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. A great choice!

[name_m]Alec[/name_m] is my vote! Of course, I am a little bit biased as it is my brother’s name, but I have always loved how handsome it sounds. [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is cool, but with your sibset I prefer [name_m]Alec[/name_m].

I prefer [name_m]Axel[/name_m] as a stand alone name. I also think it has a more modern/Germanic vibe that goes well with [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. It will age as well if not better than [name_m]Alec[/name_m] [name_f]IMO[/name_f], since it’s a “proper” old name while [name_m]Alec[/name_m] is more of a nickname.

And with [name_m]Alec[/name_m] I think most people would assume he was legally [name_m]Alexander[/name_m].

Thanks for all these responses!
Doesn’t quite help though, with such mixed advice!

Oh well I think maybe I will have both in mind and device later.

Any more opinions appreciated

I prefer [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. [name_m]Axel[/name_m] to me seems sort of trashy. And your other boys names are so classy, I think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] fits right in.

I love both. And I think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] is more like [name_u]Evan[/name_u] and [name_m]Axel[/name_m] is more like [name_m]Otto[/name_m]. Either works well really. I kind of like that grunginess of [name_m]Axel[/name_m] I must admit. I think [name_m]Alec[/name_m] is more neutral, [name_m]Axel[/name_m] makes a lot of people think “[name_f]Rose[/name_f]” but so many celebs have used it I think it’s coming into it’s own. Would you consider [name_m]Alan[/name_m] or Alaister?

[name_m]Alec[/name_m], by a million!

I prefer [name_m]Alec[/name_m]. I think it’s a lot more handsome than [name_m]Axel[/name_m]. [name_m]Axel[/name_m] sounds more like a name for a cat to me.
