Axel

Is it really that popular? Ranked #132 seems high. [name]Do[/name] you know any [name]Axel[/name]'s?

I don’t personally, and I live in SoCal where I think the incidence of that name would be higher, but who knows? I think it’s a cool name.

Wow I didn’t know this was on the charts in the US, I know a few Axels but none are American so I don’t know the impression of the name here.

Wow, that does seem high…this is for sure the US charts?

That’s what nameberry has it ranked at as of 2011.

I just looked it up on behindthename.com to compare and apparently it is at 132, I guess this is a name I never paid attention to since I wouldn’t have expected to see it used here lol.

I just looked it up and there were 3026 baby boys born in 2011 named [name]Axel[/name] in the U.S. [name]Will[/name] [name]Ferrell[/name] has a son named [name]Axel[/name], and so do [name]Rob[/name] McElhenney and [name]Kaitlin[/name] [name]Olson[/name] from It’s Always [name]Sunny[/name] in [name]Philadelphia[/name]. It does seem to have been getting steadily more popular lately.

It seems like an obvious alternative to [name]Alex[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name], so I imagine that’s probably contributed to its popularity.

My son’s middle name is [name]Axel[/name], after his great grandfather (and great great grandfather). However, we are of Scandinavian descent and are currently living in Scandinavia so it is not an uncommon name in our circles.

I personally don’t know any Axels but I was considering the name [name]Axel[/name] for my son (it has since dropped off). I think it is a great name so I’m not very surprised it is so popular.

I don’t know any. [name]Just[/name] goes to show a “top 200” name isn’t necessarily one you hear a lot.

What r_j said. 3092 babies sounds like a lot, but then you think what a huge country the US is…it’s not so many in the grand scheme of things.

I think maybe [name]Axl[/name] [name]Rose[/name] is fading from the limelight a bit, so the name seems “freer” for new little kids.

132 does seem high, but I’ve never met anyone named [name]Axel[/name]. I agree with jesba and r_j, around 3100 babies sounds like a lot, but dstributed to each of the 50 states, it’s really not a lot.
