Ayla

Thoughts on the name [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]?

Also, upon seeing it, how would you pronounce it?

Thanks!

I like it a lot. I pr it Eye - Luh.

Eye-la. It is pretty but I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f].

I’d pronounce it eye-la, as well. However, I do know one girl by that name and her parents pronounce is as a-la (“a” as in [name_u]Aidan[/name_u]). I don’t think that is the norm, though. I really do prefer the eye-la pronunciation.

I personally do like the [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] spelling as well as the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling, but would be more likely to use the [name_f]Isla[/name_f] spelling. [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] just reminds me of [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] [name_m]Reynolds[/name_m], a small child who disappeared a few years ago. It was fairly publicized, so I can’t see that spelling without thinking of the poor little one. However, a more positive, albeit less known, bearer of the name [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] is [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] Kell…an American actress.

I would pronounce it as [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without the K.

I’d pronounce it with the long A sound. As southern.maple said, like [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without the K. I’d assume they chose the [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] spelling for the y to ensure it was pronounced with a long A sound.

I would say eh-ee-lah

same here.

I love [name_f]Ayla[/name_f], and [name_f]Layla[/name_f], but its far to popular here. I know 3 [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]'s and 2 [name_f]Layla[/name_f]'s, all under 5 years old.

I would say ”-lă — like a PP said, [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without a K. It’s very pretty but it sounds sort of incomplete since I am so used to hearing [name_f]Kayla[/name_f], [name_f]Layla[/name_f], [name_f]Jayla[/name_f], etc. I prefer [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as others have said.

Thanks for the input so far. I like [name_f]Isla[/name_f] as well, but my fiancé is from a country that is not predominantly English speaking and we plan to continue living here. We are afraid that people wouldn’t pronounce it correctly. We like both the eye-la or [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without the K pronunciation, just curious what people would expect.

I am also interested that some are saying its popular. I have seen/heard [name_f]Isla[/name_f], but never met any [name_f]Ayla[/name_f] ([name_f]Kayla[/name_f] without the K pronunciation).

I’m in the [name_f]Kayla[/name_f] minus the K camp. I don’t know anyone named [name_f]Ayla[/name_f]; to me it’s the name of the heroine from [name_u]Jean[/name_u] Auel’s The Clan of the Cave [name_m]Bear[/name_m] series of historical fiction novels.

This is how I say it. I prefer it over [name_f]Isla[/name_f].
