Ayn

[name_m]Just[/name_m] out of curiosity, how would you pronounce the name [name_f]Ayn[/name_f]? I’ve searched for the correct pronounciation online, but I’m curious how most people would pronounce this name at first glance.

Ine - long I.

[name_f]Ann[/name_f] like [name_f]Ayn[/name_f] [name_m]Rand[/name_m]

Not familiar with the name, but I would’ve said [name_f]Ayn[/name_f] rhyming with “pain.”

I agree with this.

My first thought would be [name_f]Ann[/name_f] but I wouldn’t feel too confident pronouncing it.

[name_f]Ann[/name_f], like [name_m]Rand[/name_m].

Thanks for all the replies so far. Unfortunately, none of you pronounced the name the way that I would have liked it to sound.

There’s a little girl at the school where I teach whose name I have fallen in love with. It’s pronounced Ay-in. Like [name_m]Ian[/name_m], but with a long A sound, instead of a long E sound at the beginning. I really love the name, but people never know how to pronounce it. I’m wondering if there’s a better way to spell it to make it easier for everyone. Any suggestions?

I can’t think of a way to get to Ay-in. Most people are going going to prnounce [name_f]Ayn[/name_f] like [name_f]Ann[/name_f] or Ine (like [name_f]Ayn[/name_f] [name_m]Rand[/name_m]).

[name_f]Ayn[/name_f] [name_m]Rand[/name_m]'s name is pronounced EYE-n.

If you want it pronounced Ay-in, then spell it Ayin?

Ayn Rand didn’t pronounce her name like Ann. This is her take on the name:

If you want it pronounced ay-in, I’d go with the most intuitive spelling: Ayin. There’s also Aylin, a Turkish name which possibly means “moon halo”. Aylin would be pronounced eye-lin in Turkey but in English, it’d most commonly be ay-lyn.
