Baby #2 due in two weeks and still no name

Hello!

We are expecting our second daughter in a couple of weeks, and have not yet decided on a name. Our first has a very meaningful name to us - [name]Makena[/name] - after the area where we were married in Maui. We have accepted that the new baby’s name may not have quite as much meaning behind it, but are still struggling to find something we both love. The middle name will either be “[name]Joy[/name]” or “[name]Jaye[/name]” (both family names).

Here’s what we are considering:

[name]Harper[/name] - We both love the name, but our surname also ends in “er”… Big deal or not?
[name]Violet[/name] - I think this is such a lovely name, but we plan on sending our kids to French school and “violet” means “purple”… Cause for teasing?
[name]Aubrey[/name] - This name is really new to our list, and I’m just not quite sold on it yet… Your thoughts?
[name]Morgan[/name] - I know some people have strong feelings about gender-bending names, but we quite like this one… Does is flow or clash with [name]Makena[/name]?
[name]Margo[/name] - I recently met a little girl named [name]Margo[/name] and thought it was such a sweet name, but there’s a piece of me that also finds it too “mature”… Your thoughts?

Any feedback would be much appreciated!

Thanks.

[name]Margot[/name] is such a gorgeous name! I think it sounds great with [name]Makena[/name].

Another Hawai’ian name might be nice:
Kamea means ‘[name]Precious[/name] one’
Kailani ‘sea and sky’
Leiko ‘little flower’
[name]Nalanie[/name] ‘heavens’
[name]Palila[/name] ‘bird’

I like [name]Morgan[/name] with [name]Makena[/name] - to me, [name]Morgan[/name] is one example of a perfectly unisex name. [name]Margo[/name] is one of my favorites and would go nicely with [name]Makena[/name]. If your surname is also two syllables, I would avoid [name]Harper[/name] but if it has more than two syllables, the repeated -er wouldn’t bother me. I don’t care for [name]Aubrey[/name] or [name]Violet[/name].

With [name]Makena[/name], I’d go with something less classic than [name]Margot[/name] or [name]Violet[/name] (though I could see [name]Violeta[/name] working). I’m not crazy about [name]Aubrey[/name], but it really fits well with [name]Makena[/name]. I also really like [name]Harper[/name], but I think it is going to hit the top ten soon. I wouldn’t worry about [name]Harper[/name] and an er surname. I wouldn’t bat an eye at a [name]Harper[/name] [name]Turner[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] [name]Oliver[/name]. I would bat an eye to [name]Harper[/name] [name]Draper[/name] or [name]Harper[/name] [name]Parker[/name], though. [name]Morgan[/name] is kinda blah to me, but nothing wrong with it.

I like [name]Morgan[/name] with [name]Makena[/name].

I really don’t like any of the of names you listed since I don’t think they go well with [name]Makena[/name]. I think they are to “normal” if you know what I mean
I would suggest these names that are quite similar to your list like [name]Morgana[/name], [name]Viola[/name], [name]Audrina[/name], [name]Audra[/name] or [name]Leilani[/name].

I, too, will have to deal with an -er ending last name for my kids and, to me, an -er fn with the last name sounds funny. So I, personally, would stay away from [name]Harper[/name], but if you really love it and don’t mind, then it is up to you.

[name]Violet[/name] is lovely, and even if it does mean purple in French, is that so bad? A bigger concern for me would be it’s popularity.

[name]Aubrey[/name] is really cute, but I - being probably the odd one out on this - love it more as a boys name.

I would assume [name]Morgan[/name] was a boy. Also, [name]Morgan[/name] and [name]Makena[/name] are a bit matchy for me.

[name]Margo[/name] is lovely and I think would really work. [name]Even[/name] though it is another M name, it doesn’t seem matchy with [name]Makena[/name] like [name]Morgan[/name] does. This one would be my first choice for you off your list, followed by [name]Violet[/name].

I’d nix [name]Harper[/name]. The overt popularity next to [name]Makena[/name] and the -er thing would bug me.

[name]Violet[/name] is pretty but too sweet with [name]Makena[/name].

[name]Margo[/name], I can’t decide. It does feel a little too rich to me next to [name]Makena[/name], but as for maturity, she can be nicknamed any [name]Margaret[/name] nickname just fine - [name]Maggie[/name], even Magpie!

[name]Aubrey[/name] I don’t love the sound of. I love [name]Audrey[/name], but in this case, too classic. So, I have a tough time there.

[name]Morgan[/name] works best with [name]Makena[/name] to me, but I agree with the suggested [name]Morgana[/name] did something a little more high impact and feminine. It’s cool!
