[name_m]Hi[/name_m], I am a mommy of a beautiful little girl whom we named [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. Sheis almost 3 and now I am expecting baby #2. I don’t know the gender yet so I am only collecting suggestions for both, a boy and a girl. We didn’t have any problems with naming our first daughter. I love both meanings of [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]: it can mean ‘God is my light’ in Hebrew; in Sindarin it means ‘star sun’, a little flower that grows in Lothlorien, (yes, we love Tolkien). I affectionately call her Noni or Noey. Her grandparents call her [name_f]Ella[/name_f]. [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]'s middle name honors our Scottish heritage (we are family of Scottish/Irish/English roots) and the beautiful [name_f]Isle[/name_f] of [name_u]Skye[/name_u] where we spent two weeks during our honeymoon back in 2015.
Girl names we love:
[name_f]Iona[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] ([name_f]Fae[/name_f])
[name_u]Arya[/name_u]
Nienna
[name_f]Elenna[/name_f] (too close to [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]?)
Oops,
Boy names we love:
[name_m]Dougal[/name_m]
[name_u]Orrie[/name_u]
[name_u]Calder[/name_u]
We are definitely looking for something similar but not too matchy. If you have any suggestions, please share with us. It can be Scottish/Gaelic (to honor our roots) or Tolkien related… or anything, really! I love starry night sky, my husband loves sailing and anything related to the ocean: wild water, deep blue colour, brisk air or calm azure waters.
[name_f]Edit[/name_f]: Again, wrong title sorry! There’s something wrong with my laptop.
Thoughts on the names you like:
[name_f]Iona[/name_f] - [name_u]Love[/name_u] this - stunning and distinctive
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] ([name_f]Fae[/name_f]) - another lovely choice, strong but sweet
[name_u]Arya[/name_u] - lovely name and familiar
Nienna - never heard this before - it’s intriguing
[name_f]Elenna[/name_f] - too close to [name_f]Elanor[/name_f], definitely
[name_m]Dougal[/name_m] - quite nice - not one you hear very often, though it does remind me of Father Ted
[name_u]Orrie[/name_u] - never come across this before, but it sounds a little incomplete next to [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]
[name_u]Calder[/name_u] - I like this for you - it feels matchy with [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] but not overly so

[name_f]Iona[/name_f] - lovely, goes well with [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] ([name_f]Fae[/name_f]) - sweet nickname, also goes well with [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]
[name_u]Arya[/name_u] - are you pronouncing this like [name_f]Aria[/name_f] or like [name_u]Arya[/name_u] [name_m]Stark[/name_m]? I prefer the former, but the latter is nice too
Nienna - unfamiliar with this, although intriguing
[name_f]Elenna[/name_f] - way too close to [name_f]Elanor[/name_f], unfortunately
[name_m]Dougal[/name_m] - very British, kinda dated here but I do like [name_m]Dougie[/name_m] as a nickname
[name_u]Orrie[/name_u] - unfamiliar, not sure on how it goes with [name_f]Elanor[/name_f], but a cool name
[name_u]Calder[/name_u] - super cool, goes well with [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]

Another vote for [name_f]Iona[/name_f]. [name_f]Lovely[/name_f]!
I really like [name_u]Arya[/name_u] and [name_u]Calder[/name_u] from your list! I would suggest [name_m]Duncan[/name_m] for a boy.
Congrats! Elanor is lovely. From your list, I adore Iona.

[name_f]May[/name_f] I suggest:
[name_f]Elanor[/name_f] {and} [name_f]Margret[/name_f]
[name_f]Iona[/name_f] – This is a very nice option, definitely my favourite of your list. I like the Scottish island link between it, and [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]'s, [name_u]Skye[/name_u]. [name_f]Iona[/name_f] is short and sweet, and has a lot of spunk - different, but not at all too out there.
[name_f]Fiona[/name_f] – I must admit that I do find this rather dated, and unfortunately too, only associate it with green, swamp and ogre (Shrek). It’s not at all a bad name, I just can’t shake the dated/Shrek association myself. I would prefer [name_u]Fionn[/name_u] for a boy, but admittedly, [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] & [name_f]Fiona[/name_f] do sound great together.
[name_u]Arya[/name_u] – This one is so lovely in sound, it’s a pity it has got a lot working against it. I immediately associate it with Hitler/the Nazi’s and other white supremacist groups and their (mis)use of arya’s meaning “noble” in regard to racial superiority - these associations give the name a very strong, negative sense. Also, you’ve got the Game of Thrones association too, which is strong due to it’s recent and current popularity (not a bad association at all, but definitely a prominent one).
Nienna – I’ve not come across this name before – strong yet whimsical, and delightfully curious. (I just looked it up: no wonder I’ve not heard it - I’m not familiar with Tolkien. I wonder, would [name_f]Elanor[/name_f] & Nienna sound ‘too Tolkien’ to those who are familiar with the stories/language?) I like it a lot.
[name_f]Elenna[/name_f] – Nice, but yes, definitely too close to [name_f]Elanor[/name_f].
It’s between [name_f]Iona[/name_f] and Nienna for me - both are great names.
Since your list contains two names ending in -enna and the nickname “[name_f]Fae[/name_f]” for [name_f]Fiona[/name_f], I thought you might like Phaenna or Phaënna pronounced “fay-EHN-a”, a name from Greek mythology which means “shining”. Phaenna was one of the three Graces.
I think [name_f]Arwen[/name_f] is one of the more accessible Tolkien names. There’s also the goddess name [name_f]Yavanna[/name_f], and I’ve read that Lalaith means “laughter” in Sindarin.
[name_f]Flower[/name_f]-related or botanical names (like [name_f]Elanor[/name_f]): Liatris, [name_f]Ianthe[/name_f], Acony, [name_f]Jessamy[/name_f], [name_f]Shasta[/name_f], [name_f]Eleusine[/name_f], [name_f]Artemisia[/name_f], [name_f]Senna[/name_f]
