Baby #2 - had trouble naming first child and 2nd is harder!

[name]Baby[/name] #2 is due 3/17. We had a really tough time naming our first child but finally settled on the name [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Henry[/name] (nn. [name]Alex[/name]). To be honest, I think his name is a compromise and neither of us truly love it (although we both like it). My husband and I do not like the same types of names so that makes it really challenging. I like classic names that aren’t too popular or too unusual. My husband likes names for girls that I don’t care for such as “[name]Candy[/name]”, “[name]Summer[/name]”, and “[name]Cami[/name]”. I’m looking for something that sounds good with [name]Alex[/name]. I’ve narrowed our list down to the following:

Girls -
[name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] ([name]Cami[/name], [name]Millie[/name], or [name]Milla[/name])
[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name] ([name]Annie[/name])
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Liz[/name],[name]Libby[/name])
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Amy[/name])

Boys -
[name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name])
[name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Sam[/name])
[name]Benjamin[/name] ([name]Ben[/name])
[name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nick[/name])
[name]Joshua[/name] ([name]Josh[/name])
[name]Nathanial[/name] ([name]Nate[/name])

Any advice on these names? Any that you think sound cute with sibling name [name]Alex[/name]? Any I should worry are just way to popular/common? Thanks so much!

[name]Hi[/name]! I know naming a child can be tough, especially when your DH does not have the same taste! (I had this experience, also!) I think [name]Alexander[/name] [name]Henry[/name] is a very handsome, classic name. Here are some suggestions:
(I wouldn’t worry too much about popularity…all of these names are gorgeous!)

[name]Anna[/name] [name]Claire[/name], [name]Anna[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Annabel[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Camilla[/name] [name]Sophie[/name] or [name]Camille[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]
[name]Sophia[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Sophie[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Laura[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Audrey[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name], [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Claire[/name] or [name]Audrey[/name] [name]Sophia[/name]

[name]William[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Nicholas[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name] [name]Benjamin[/name]
[name]Benjamin[/name] [name]Samuel[/name]
[name]Nicholas[/name] [name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Colin[/name] [name]William[/name]
[name]Joshua[/name] [name]Mason[/name]
[name]Max[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Ethan[/name]
[name]Ethan[/name] [name]William[/name]

I hope I helped! My favorites to go with [name]Alex[/name] are in bold.

I think you have some great lists going! All the names would sound fine with [name]Alex[/name] (although [name]Liz[/name] and [name]Max[/name] might be too close sounding).
If you are concerned about popularity, I would shy away from [name]Sophia[/name], [name]Elizabeth[/name] (although your nn’s aren’t popular), [name]Claire[/name] and [name]Amelia[/name]. In some areas, such as mine, [name]Amelia[/name], [name]Lauren[/name] and [name]Audrey[/name] are also quite popular (top 25). Oddly enough, my two favorites on your list are [name]Camilla[/name] and [name]Annabel[/name] nn [name]Anna[/name] or [name]Annie[/name]. I really love [name]Audrey[/name], too.
For the boys, [name]Ethan[/name] is super popular, as are [name]Max[/name] and [name]William[/name]. [name]Sam[/name], [name]Ben[/name] and [name]Nick[/name] are very common, but not in a popular/trendy kind of way. I love [name]Nathaniel[/name]/[name]Nate[/name]!

Girls -
[name]Claire[/name][name]Love[/name] [name]Claire[/name]! And I think it would make a great sibling for [name]Alex[/name], it is pretty popular (#53 in the top 100) but it’s classic and won’t become trendy or dated, another option you might consider if popularity bothers you is [name]Clara[/name]
[name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] ([name]Cami[/name], [name]Millie[/name], or [name]Milla[/name]) This is one of my favorites! I prefer [name]Camilla[/name] to [name]Camille[/name] (camila is #79) but again it’s classic and won’t feel dated in ten years and your husband gets a cute girlie nn
[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name] ([name]Annie[/name])Again another gorgeous name! [name]Anna[/name] is #29 but it’s not trendy, the only issue you might have is then you have two sibling that start with the same letter, but that might not bother you…
[name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sophie[/name] Beautiful name, super popular right now (#4) and for that reason I would choose one of your other names
[name]Lauren[/name]/[name]Laura[/name] [name]Laura[/name] is classic and not mega popular (#235) but for me [name]Lauren[/name] feels just a tad dated and more popular (#46), maybe a more modern and less common take on the name could be [name]Laurel[/name]?
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Liz[/name],[name]Libby[/name])Classic choice (though pretty popular at #11) and works really well with [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Amy[/name]) [name]Amelia[/name] is a gorgeous name! The only hesitation I have is it doesn’t feel as classic as your other choices and with it’s sudden rise in popularity it may feel dated in the future (#55)
[name]Audrey[/name][name]Audrey[/name] is classic and timeless it is #49 on the list but I can’t imagine it ever feeling dated, again it is the same initial as [name]Alexander[/name] but if you don’t mind that it’s an excellent choice

Boys -
[name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name]) Classic, timeless and would make an excellent brother for [name]Alexander[/name] (#5)
[name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Sam[/name])[name]Samuel[/name] is one of my all time favorites, it won’t become dated and I think it’s perfect with [name]Alexander[/name] (#27)
[name]Benjamin[/name] ([name]Ben[/name])Again a classic it’s #20 in the charts, and though I love this name, I feel it has less personality than [name]William[/name] or [name]Samuel[/name], but that’s just my opinion
[name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nick[/name]) While I think [name]Nicholas[/name] is a good name I like others from your list more (#32)
[name]Mason[/name] Not as classic or timeless as your other choices, so while it’s a good name I would be more inclined to choose one of your other names (#34)
[name]Colin[/name] [name]Colin[/name] is a good name, seems to hover around the bottom of the top 100 so while it’s familiar it’s not overused (#112)
[name]Joshua[/name] ([name]Josh[/name]) Good name, classic and solid (#6)
[name]Max[/name]While I like this name I feel like it is incomplete compared to [name]Alexander[/name]/[name]Alex[/name] maybe if you went with a longer form like [name]Maxwell[/name], [name]Maximo[/name], [name]Maximillian[/name] nn [name]Max[/name]? (#104)
[name]Nathanial[/name] ([name]Nate[/name]) Again a good name, but doesn’t seem to have much personality imo (#76)
[name]Ethan[/name]Very popular right now (#2) which increases its risk of feeling dated in the future

Thanks for the feedback so far. I think we’re leaning strongest towards either [name]Claire[/name], [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annie[/name], or [name]Elizabeth[/name]/[name]Liz[/name] for a girl. For a boy, I think we’re leaning towards [name]William[/name], [name]Samuel[/name] or [name]Nathaniel[/name] ([name]Will[/name], [name]Sam[/name] or [name]Nate[/name]). Last name is 2 syllables Yurchak.

[name]Claire[/name] - I know 4 [name]Clara[/name]'s born in the last year or two. That’s one reason I’m sticking with [name]Claire[/name] and not [name]Clara[/name], although I like both.
[name]Anna[/name]/annabel/[name]Annabelle[/name]/[name]Annie[/name] - can’t decide what to actually name/call her out of these
[name]Elizabeth[/name] - just not sure if its too common right now

[name]Will[/name] - love this name but I did date a [name]Will[/name] about 10 years ago for about 2.5 years, my husband doesn’t care about this but is it wierd to use the name of an ex?
[name]Sam[/name] - a cute name, my boss happens to be named [name]Sam[/name] although we’ve liked the name since before I started this job
[name]Nathaniel[/name]/[name]Nate[/name] - I just recently started liking this name

Any thoughts on the above? Middle name suggestions with these would be great too. Thanks!

I love all the names on your list! Here are some suggestions:

[name]Claire[/name] [name]Elizabeth[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Eliza[/name]
[name]Annabelle[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Claire[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Grace[/name]
[name]Elizabeth[/name] [name]Rose[/name]

[name]William[/name] [name]Nathaniel[/name]
[name]William[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]
[name]William[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]William[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Joseph[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]David[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Simon[/name]
[name]Nathaniel[/name] [name]Thomas[/name]

Sorry for any repeats but I didn’t read previous posts.

Girls -
[name]Claire[/name] - this to me seems more dated than [name]Alexander[/name] and it is quite a bit shorter. [name]How[/name] many syllables has your surname got?
[name]Camille[/name]/[name]Camilla[/name] ([name]Cami[/name], [name]Millie[/name], or [name]Milla[/name]) - This seems like a good choice for you because you can incorporate a name your partner likes yet you still get one you like too. It’s very feminine
[name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name] ([name]Annie[/name]) - I prefer [name]Annabel[/name], it seem fresher than [name]Anna[/name]. Does A and A bother you?
[name]Sophia[/name]/[name]Sophie[/name] - Very popular and i would avoid it for that reason but does it bother you?
[name]Lauren[/name]/[name]Laura[/name] - Personally I don’t like this name, seems very dated
[name]Elizabeth[/name] ([name]Liz[/name],[name]Libby[/name]) - I think this is a great choice to work well with [name]Alexander[/name]. I like this
[name]Amelia[/name] ([name]Mia[/name], [name]Lia[/name], [name]Amy[/name]) - This is getting more popular but you are more free with NN. Again, A and A bother you?
[name]Audrey[/name] - A and A. Limited to surnames with this one and I personally can’t see it on a little girl.

I think your best choice would be either [name]Elizabeth[/name] or [name]Camilla[/name].
Can I suggest:

Boys -
[name]William[/name] ([name]Will[/name]) - Classic can’t go wrong name. Goes well with [name]Alexander[/name]
[name]Samuel[/name] ([name]Sam[/name]) - Again, can’t go far wrong with this name
[name]Benjamin[/name] ([name]Ben[/name]) - I do like this, however I wouldn’t use it.
[name]Nicholas[/name] ([name]Nick[/name]) - I quite like this one
[name]Mason[/name] - Seems trendy to me
[name]Colin[/name] - I don’t like this at all. Sounds like middle aged mechanic to me.
[name]Joshua[/name] ([name]Josh[/name]) - I like this but it’s popular
[name]Max[/name] - Very short compared to [name]Alexander[/name], although if he goes by [name]Alex[/name] then [name]Max[/name] is great. Perhaps [name]Maximus[/name] or [name]Maximillian[/name] but shortened to [name]Max[/name]?
[name]Nathanial[/name] ([name]Nate[/name]) - This is growing on me
[name]Ethan[/name] - Very popular but I love it.

I think [name]William[/name] or [name]Alexander[/name] would be best.

Why do some people worry about the first initial being the same for 2 siblings? Is it bc they worry if you have another child, you’re stuck with the same letter? Or is it bc it sounds too “matchy matchy”? I guess I’m not worried at all about having to name a third child an “A” name. I think you can switch letters after the first two ([name]Alex[/name], [name]Anna[/name] and [name]Elizabeth[/name] would be a cute sibling set to me). I am a little more worried about the matchy matchy thing (especially if we stop at 2 kids. [name]Alex[/name] and [name]Annie[/name] is pretty cute - maybe too cute. Thoughts?

I’m just trying to better understand this possible concern with the name [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabel[/name].

I wouldn’t worry about the 2 names starting with the letter A, because [name]Anna[/name]/[name]Annabelle[/name] and [name]Alexander[/name] are very classic names that go well together! I love your list…you can’t go wrong with any of the names.

Honestly, I love every name on your list.

Maybe you can compromise with your husband by choosing a classic first name and then using another nickname. Ex: [name]Maisie[/name] or [name]Daisy[/name] for [name]Margaret[/name], [name]Bram[/name] for [name]Abraham[/name], etc.

Good luck!
