I’m due with my 2nd baby in Feb next year, we already have a 22 month old girl called [name]India[/name] [name]Neve[/name].
so what i’m needing help with is a boys and girls name - we won’t find out what were having. We aren’t brave enough to go for ‘out there names’ but do tend to like some. I don’t want themed children so countries and cities etc are out. My husband really likes [name]Sydney[/name] for a girl, but i pointed out there’d be a theme if we did that.
My favourite boys name is [name]Max[/name], but husband is suddenly unsure about it. [name]Indy[/name] would have been [name]Max[/name] if a boy. And now i’m reeling from the naming process as I just don’t love anything enough (and I love names!)
here are my restrictions/guidelines:
no place names
no K names
no biblical names
no D names
our last name starts with a D and has 2 syllables
nothing made up
My background is half Dutch Canadian and half British
My husband is from northern [name]India[/name] (Sikh)
Here are some ideas.
[name]August[/name]
[name]Callum[/name]
Cedric
[name]Remy[/name]
[name]Milo[/name]
[name]Leo[/name]
Talvin
Ross
Evan
[name]Corbin[/name]
Nolan
Felix
Malcolm
Cyrus
Theo
Alex
Owen
Emmett
[name]August[/name] - not keen esp for a baby born in Feb
[name]Callum[/name] - friend’s little boy
[name]Cedric[/name] - bit too red haired viking meets harry potter for me
[name]Remy[/name] - v similar to my husband’s name
[name]Milo[/name] - love love love this name but husband doesn’t
[name]Leo[/name] - love this one, will suggest to hub
Talvin - unusual it’s growing on me. onto the suggestions list
[name]Ross[/name] - like it but worry about the [name]Friend[/name]'s association
[name]Evan[/name] - friend’s little boy
[name]Corbin[/name] - makes me think of [name]Corbin[/name] [name]Dallas[/name] from fifth element
[name]Nolan[/name] - don’t like at all
[name]Felix[/name] - loved but husband said ‘if he licks my ice cream again i’ll scream’
[name]Malcolm[/name] - like it enough but can’t picture my children with it. if that makes sense
[name]Cyrus[/name] - nope
[name]Theo[/name] - nope
[name]Alex[/name] - my brother. love his name
[name]Owen[/name] - odd guy at school
[name]Emmett[/name]- actually really like [name]Everett[/name], as it’s a family name, but is it getting a bit trendy?
My sister (half british, half norwegian) and her husband (also sikh from northern [name]India[/name]) named their son [name]Arvin[/name]. It’s ancient english, germanic and the beginning in the sikh name Arvinder.
[name]Arvin[/name] - have been really mulling this one over but can’t get [name]Marvin[/name] and [name]Alvin[/name] out of my head when i think of it, and then i think of chipmunks.
I’m still having no luck on finding any names, boys or girls, that HB reacts positively to.
here are some of the girls names i like. Some i like only as middle names. what do you all think?
[name]Lalita[/name]
[name]Saskia[/name]
Griet
Eyra
[name]Marguerite[/name]
[name]Seren[/name]
[name]Fay[/name]
For boys, perhaps you would like:
[name]Miles[/name]
[name]Atticus[/name]
[name]Gil[/name]
I really like the idea of [name]India[/name] & [name]Everett[/name]!
I’m not sure which of those girls names you would use as middles, but I think [name]Saskia[/name], Eyra, and [name]Lalita[/name] are too matchy with [name]India[/name].
I’ve never heard of Griet before and I’m not sure what to think of it. At first I thought [name]Marguerite[/name] didn’t go at all, but now I’m thinking that could be cute. [name]Seren[/name] is nice, but I know a lot of people have mentioned the association with the chemical weapon that is pronounced the same. What about [name]Solenne[/name] instead? I’ve never like [name]Fay[/name] much and I think it sounds too fairy-like beside a name like [name]India[/name] which has such depth.
[name]Raine[/name] might sound nice as a sister to [name]India[/name].
I love [name]Max[/name], it’s probably my number one name for [name]Baby[/name] 3. Really like [name]Everett[/name] too and dont think it’s trendy at all.
I love [name]Priya[/name] but it’s my husband’s cousin’s name.
[name]Lachlan[/name] - This name has really grown on me recently. I know of a few folks in [name]North[/name] [name]America[/name] who have little boys with this name, but haven’t met anyone in the UK with it as a first name. I like it mainly because my husband’s grandfather was called Lakshmann and [name]Lachlan[/name] is similar but easier to pronounce.
[name]Piers[/name] - we both actually like [name]Pierce[/name], tho i wonder what nn would come from it.
[name]Lennon[/name]- doesn’t sound good with last name
[name]Finley[/name]- [name]Finn[/name] doesn’t sound good with last name. But i like it
[name]Truman[/name]- don’t like this at all
[name]Archer[/name]- not keen on [name]Archie[/name].
[name]Adrian[/name]- no go for husband
[name]Weston[/name]- doesn’t sound good with last name
[name]Griffin[/name] - have suggested this but again it doesn’t sound good with last name
[name]Tate[/name]- cute but not my style and friend has mentioned it as a potential name for her.
kiran/kieran (either) - friend with this name (female)
samir - my sister is [name]Sam[/name]
rahim - ‘im’ ending doesn’t sound very Sikh to me. could be wrong.
kasim - not liking the ‘im’ ending
amar - trying to picture a little [name]Amar[/name] or [name]Omar[/name].
dirk - nope, but like [name]Kirk[/name]
jan - too many uncles!
gerrit - interesting… but not keen on Ger as a nn.
mara - i like this one.
rema- so close to husbands name
anoushka - love this!
samira - know a girl with this name it’s sweet but agin my sister is [name]Sam[/name]
nakita - [name]Elton[/name] [name]John[/name]
nisha - nice i like it
sabine/ sabina - prefer [name]Sabrina[/name], but husband knew an awful [name]Sabrina[/name] so it’s out
lin - nah
hannah - nope - (biblical)
edith - quite like the Dutch version but then we’d have pronunciation issues
floris - err no.
heidi - no
So I’m putting [name]Lachlan[/name], [name]Gerrit[/name], [name]Mara[/name], [name]Anoushka[/name], [name]Nisha[/name] on the suggestions list. [name]Do[/name] any of these sound good with [name]India[/name]?
[name]India[/name] and [name]Lachlan[/name] is standing out for me.
I still like [name]Everett[/name] but could it all be a bit ‘Gone with the Wind’ - [name]India[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] ([name]Rhett[/name]) I have yet to mention [name]Everett[/name] to husband and I have a feeling he will not like it.
Plus I’m working on [name]Max[/name] daily and he’s coming around, I hope by the time baby2 comes he’ll think it was his name suggestion!
I think [name]Lachlan[/name] and [name]Everett[/name] are fabulous, I do prefer [name]Everett[/name] with a sister named [name]India[/name]. As for the girls names I think [name]Anoushka[/name] is beautiful and I love that with [name]India[/name] too.
hmmm I like [name]Reese[/name] and [name]Carys[/name] for girls, and I could totally go for [name]Clark[/name].
I like [name]Blythe[/name] too as it’s so [name]Anne[/name] of [name]Green[/name] Gables, but find it quite dragged out in the middle if you know what I mean. I can’t seem to say it quickly. maybe great for middle name spot!
I have adored [name]Milo[/name] forever - but husband is dead against I’m only aloud to name a future cat [name]Milo[/name]. was so sad when he said he didn’t like it.
[name]Meave[/name] is too close to [name]India[/name]'s middle name [name]Neve[/name]. so would be way too matchy
I also just realised through my blinkered love for [name]Lachlan[/name] - that it doesn’t sound great with our last name. sniff sniff I like [name]Logan[/name] too but again the ‘n’ ending doesn’t work with last name in my mind.
There are some beautiful [name]Indian[/name] names. [name]Just[/name] a few:
Anjeli
[name]Maya[/name]
[name]Nina[/name]
[name]Shanti[/name]
Sitara
[name]Kashmira[/name]
Sundari, [name]Sunny[/name]
[name]Lalita[/name], [name]Lali[/name]
[name]Yasmine[/name]
[name]Love[/name] the previous suggestions of [name]Anoushka[/name], [name]Mara[/name], [name]Nisha[/name], and [name]Seren[/name]. I think all sound good with [name]India[/name]. [name]Max[/name] and [name]Leo[/name] great, too .
For a girl, what about [name]Amara[/name], [name]Anya[/name], [name]Aveline[/name], [name]Azha[/name], [name]Eden[/name], [name]Eilidh[/name] (“eye-lee”), [name]Elodie[/name], [name]Ember[/name], [name]Eshe[/name], [name]Ione[/name], [name]Leila[/name], [name]Lilou[/name], [name]Maya[/name], Simanti, [name]Soleil[/name]?
For a boy: [name]Caio[/name], [name]Eamon[/name], [name]Eli[/name], [name]Emery[/name], [name]Matteo[/name], [name]Ronan[/name], [name]Shia[/name], [name]Soren[/name], [name]Taj[/name], [name]Thane[/name], [name]Winter[/name]?
