Baby #2, Phoebe and Florence - too matchy?

Hello Berries!

We are TTC baby #2 and I’ve been thinking baby names for quite awhile now. I’m really struggling on one point but my husband doesn’t think it’s an issue.

Our first daughter is called [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f], and as I start compiling my lists of favourites, many of them begin with the letter F…

[name_f]Flora[/name_f]
[name_f]Florence[/name_f]
[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]

Instinctively, it doesn’t feel right to have a second child with a name beginning with F, when [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f]'s name is ‘Ph’ (pronounced F). There’s something that just seems weird about it to me - I’m not a fan of siblings sharing the same initial and this feels worse in a way.

I’d love to know what other berries think - would you think twice if you heard [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]?

I don’t think there’s a problem with [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] at all! They are both totally different names, and both gorgeous in different ways.

[name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] are gorgeous, both as separate names and as a sibset. I don’t think they are too matchy. I also like [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] with [name_f]Francesca[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f] go really well together!

I agree that there isn’t a problem with it. They have separate initials and the names go nicely together. I wouldn’t hesitate about it if I were you, but it’s always mother’s intuition on this one. If you can get over a fear of name regret for the sibset, then by all means, they go great together!!

I don’t think it is a problem at all. They do both start with the F-sound and that might bother you. But I wouldn’t think twice about it. They are very distinct names and not matchy at all other than the initial sound. And the different spelling Ph vs F makes it less matchy to me, on paper they look very distinct.

I think they’re fine together. As long as the names themselves don’t rhyme, alliterated names are fine in my book!

I think they’ll a wonderful pair! [name_m]Both[/name_m] lovely choices. It bugs me a bit when sib names have the same ending sound, but the beginning sound isn’t an issue for me.

Would I think twice if I heard [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] and [name_f]Florence[/name_f]? No, probably not. They don’t seem like a ridiculous pairing, nor are they too similar.

However, I admit I feel the same way you do - somehow, instinctively, it feels wrong. I can’t put my finger on why, but it does. If I had a daughter named [name_f]Georgia[/name_f] and was contemplating [name_f]Josephine[/name_f], I think I’d feel the same way.

[name_m]Will[/name_m] it be a big regret if you don’t use [name_f]Flora[/name_f]/[name_f]Florence[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f]? I know I won’t be able to use some of my absolute favorite first names, simply because I doubt I’ll have more than four children (and that’s pushing it!) and I definitely love more than four names. The names I would regret using are family names, and those are more important, and will be used before middle names that have no family significance. If [name_f]Flora[/name_f] or [name_f]Francesca[/name_f] are very important to you, that makes it a little more complicated, but if they are truly that important, then they’ll probably win out in the end.

Ultimately, it depends on how you feel - don’t use something you don’t like just to avoid the ‘F’ sound, but don’t let yourself get talked into something you can’t get behind 100%, either.

Thank you all so much for your feedback! [name_u]Love[/name_u] this site

Like pp said - the [name_f]Georgia[/name_f]/[name_f]Josephine[/name_f] example exactly pinpoints my concern!

[name_f]Florence[/name_f] is a family name and was a close contender when [name_f]Phoebe[/name_f] was born. I’ve wanted to use it for a long time and get stuck on it every time I go through my list. I’ve discarded lots of F names because of this issue, but that (and [name_f]Flora[/name_f]/[name_f]Francesca[/name_f]) I just love.

Interestingly, [name_f]Daphne[/name_f] was on my list but I really didn’t like the ph in the middle, nor the matchy e ending. I’ve eliminated all names that end in ie/e/y - and if I rule out all F names, I feel I’ll really be going for a name that I don’t love!

Saying that, our other favourites are…

[name_f]Agnes[/name_f]
[name_f]Eve[/name_f]
[name_f]Nina[/name_f]
[name_f]Juliet[/name_f]
[name_f]Rosalie[/name_f]
[name_f]Isobel[/name_f] (although because of popularity I think this will go in the middle spot)

Any ideas or thoughts are welcomed!
