Baby #2

My partner and I have an adorable red-headed three year old named [name]Miriam[/name] [name]Grey[/name], and she’s about to become a big sister. We’re having our second child in two months.

We haven’t found out the baby’s gender, so we need names for both, and we’re completely lost. [name]Miri[/name] has suggested Wolfie for a baby boy, which we both like, but would it be too odd to have a son named [name]Wolf[/name]? We also like [name]River[/name] and other nature names and some more classic names like [name]Simon[/name] and [name]David[/name].

And for girls, the only names we’ve liked so far share way too many sounds with [name]Miri[/name]'s name or just completely clash. ex: [name]Mia[/name], [name]Kaylee[/name]

I love [name]Mia[/name], but I think you’re right in saying it clashes with [name]Miriam[/name], as does [name]Kaylee[/name]. [name]Wolf[/name] isn’t weird at all! Again, I’m not sure that it goes with [name]Miriam[/name], but maybe with the right mn you could make it work. Here are some ideas off the top of my head:

[name]Wolf[/name]
[name]Colt[/name] or [name]Colton[/name]
[name]Bear[/name]
[name]Leo[/name] (i like this with [name]Miriam[/name] a lot!)
[name]Benno[/name] (also awesome with [name]Miriam[/name])
[name]Hudson[/name]
[name]Judson[/name] (nn [name]Jud[/name] or [name]Jude[/name])
[name]Jude[/name]
[name]Flint[/name]
[name]Ridge[/name]
[name]Elm[/name]
[name]Sylvan[/name] ([name]Sylvan[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name]- adorable!)
[name]Arlo[/name]

There are so many awesome choices to go with [name]Miriam[/name] in the “nature and animal” genre! Good luck!

I have to be honest, I think naming a little boy wolf would be weird. Maybe as a middle but it’s just too out there for me as a first… For naturey type names…

[name]Bruin[/name]
[name]Rowan[/name]
[name]Sterling[/name]

But I think I would probably keep these to the middle as they would sound straight next to the more traditional [name]Miriam[/name].

For girls, I agree that [name]Mia[/name] is too similar and kaylee is bizarre next to your [name]Miri[/name]. What about [name]Katie[/name] short or [name]Katherine[/name] or [name]Casey[/name] short for [name]Cassandra[/name]. Other options…

[name]Sarah[/name] nn [name]Sadie[/name]
[name]Eleanor[/name] nn [name]Nora[/name] or [name]Elle[/name]
[name]Charlotte[/name] nn [name]Charlie[/name]? [name]Lottie[/name]?

[name]Wolf[/name] doesn’t sound weird to me. I think [name]Wolf[/name] is great it’s go great spunk, character and strength to it. Everything one would want from a son. [name]Wolf[/name] is also short for the [name]German[/name] names [name]Wolfgang[/name] and Wolfram. My dad’s name is [name]Wolfgang[/name].

With [name]Miriam[/name] I also like [name]Simon[/name]. ([name]David[/name] seems too main stream and [name]River[/name] doesn’t have the same strength as [name]Miriam[/name] does).

Thanks for your help!
Our boys list so far is:
[name]Leo[/name], [name]Wolf[/name], [name]Benno[/name], [name]Jude[/name], [name]Sylvan[/name], [name]Simon[/name], and [name]Arlo[/name]

We’re struggling with girls names though!
I like [name]Sara[/name]. I like [name]Sara[/name] so much! But my partner refuses to consider it. It’s apparently way to popular. I don’t even know how we ever settled on [name]Miri[/name]'s name, we’re horrible with girl’s names!

You have a nice boy’s list-- I’m partial to [name]Benno[/name], as it comes from ‘beirne,’ meaning ‘bear.’ So your animal/nature name, just a bit more subtly packaged.

Girls names that pair with [name]Miriam[/name]:
Hebrew like [name]Miriam[/name]:

[name]Esther[/name] / [name]Hadassah[/name]
[name]Judith[/name]
[name]Sephora[/name]
[name]Keziah[/name]
[name]Eliora[/name]
[name]Ilana[/name]
[name]Nessa[/name]
[name]Orly[/name]
[name]Sarai[/name]
[name]Tamar[/name]

Vintage like [name]Miriam[/name]:

[name]Flora[/name]
[name]Bryony[/name]
[name]Serena[/name]
[name]Ivy[/name]
[name]Pearl[/name]
[name]Rosamond[/name]
[name]Helena[/name]
[name]Iris[/name]
[name]Isadora[/name]
[name]Amity[/name]
[name]Cecily[/name]
[name]Constance[/name]
[name]Willa[/name]
[name]Laurel[/name]

Thank you, blade!
I like [name]Willa[/name], [name]Ivy[/name], [name]Pearl[/name], and [name]Judith[/name], but my partner likes [name]Keziah[/name], [name]Laurel[/name], [name]Bryony[/name], and [name]Tamar[/name].

We both like [name]Amity[/name], but can’t see using it, and we’re torn on whether [name]Serena[/name] and [name]Serenity[/name] is better.
WDYT of [name]Temperance[/name]? I like Tempe, and my partner likes it in its full form.

[name]Happy[/name] to help!

I much prefer [name]Serena[/name]. It’s a dignified name, millennia-old; it’s the name of a famous, vigorous athlete which somewhat tempers its quiet image; and [name]Serenity[/name] = [name]Sailor[/name] [name]Moon[/name] in many people’s eyes.

[name]Temperance[/name] is a lovely virtue name, gaining lots of popularity because of the TV show Bones where the pathologist is named [name]Temperance[/name]. Of course it could be troublesome when your child reaches the age in school (8th grade? 9th grade?) when Prohibition is discussed, and all her peers realize that [name]Temperance[/name] = anti-alcohol.

Your partner, consciously or unconsciously, selected all nature names! [name]Keziah[/name] = cinnamon, [name]Laurel[/name] is of course the mountain laurel associated with [name]Athena[/name]; [name]Bryony[/name] is a green climbing vine; and [name]Tamar[/name] = palm tree. Of course, you picked [name]Willa[/name] ([name]Willow[/name]) and [name]Ivy[/name].

Hah, I pointed that out when she picked them.
I’ve been browsing lists and the forums, and I think I’m going to try to get a list for each gender put together and post those for more help.
We’re not getting any closer to a name!

I really like [name]Flora[/name], [name]Helena[/name], [name]Esther[/name], and [name]Bryony[/name] with [name]Miriam[/name]! [name]Bryony[/name] would also fall under the “nature names” category. [name]Esther[/name] could too, as it means star.

I’ll also add [name]Samara[/name]. I think [name]Samara[/name] and [name]Miriam[/name] would be super cute together.

I am not experienced in the boy-naming category enough to comment (I only have one boy and the name was predetermined by my husband before he ever met me). I think [name]Wolfgang[/name] would be a reasonable name to go with the nickname Wolfie.

I don’t think [name]Wolf[/name] is too weird at all. I really like it.

I like Wolfram nn Wolfie/[name]Wolf[/name] with [name]Miriam[/name]
