Baby #4 Mary?

Expecting baby #4 - a girl. Siblings are [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] [name_f]Louise[/name_f], [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] [name_f]Margaret[/name_f] and [name_m]George[/name_m] [name_m]Francis[/name_m]. I’m leaning towards using [name_f]Mary[/name_f], which was also my grandmother’s name. I know that it’s relatively simple compared to my older daughter’s names, but I think it’s still of the same genre. I like how classic, simple and sweet it is. I’m open to other suggestions though at this point I feel as if I’ve gone through just about all the other options and nothing is singing to me more than [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Our last name is two syllables and starts with G. Assuming I do use [name_f]Mary[/name_f], what are thoughts of these middle names:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] (Elizabeth was my other grandmother’s name) - not sure if this is just too classic and/or sounding like a nun though

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] (Maureen is my mom’s name)

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (Maeve was my favorite name when I was a child and I always wanted to name a daughter [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] but I don’t think it makes sense as a first name given my other kids names. I am 100 percent [name_m]Irish[/name_m] and have an [name_m]Irish[/name_m] name myself, though my married last name / last name of my kids is not [name_m]Irish[/name_m] at all).

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is a beautiful classic and fits perfectly with her siblings who also have that spunk and timeless elegance.
Also, can I just say I LOVE seeing [name_f]Mary[/name_f] used- she’s one of my favourites, such a strong, lovely name with a touch of wild stubborness- totally endearing and wonderful!

The other’s are nice too but the alliteration stands out a bit against her siblings.

I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] and think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] would totally work as the first name. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? I get nun vibes from [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] sounds lovely with your oldest children’s names! All tha names are beautiful and traditional.

I adore the simple and timeless [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! I like the meaning behind your choice.
[name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f] would be wonderful too!

I adore [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], but I’m not enchanted with [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. Would you consider [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]?

You may also like [name_f]Maren[/name_f], a mix of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] and [name_f]Maureen[/name_f].

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] sounds like the right choice for you. It goes brilliantly with sibling names - I’d say it’s more down to earth vintage than the stately [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], but is balanced by [name_m]George[/name_m] which somehow straddles being a comfy, down to earth name and being regal.

The only other suggestions I’d venture would probably be variations of [name_f]Mary[/name_f], perhaps [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] which I think would go wonderfully while taking a slight and pleasing stylistic sidestep away while also being classic enough to sound perfectly cohesive, or [name_f]Mairi[/name_f] (mah-ry), which I adore and works with the quirky slant of [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f], also loving that Gaelic origin.

Of your middles, I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is the most obvious / intuitive choice… it tracks perfectly with the sibling names. I quite like the cute alliteration of [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f], but I agree with others that the name then stands out among siblings, so not sure it works in the set.

For the record, I actually think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] works wonderfully as a first in the set. While [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] and [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] are undoubtedly traditional, they are not totally straight, buttoned-up names to me - they have a touch of clunky-cool quirkiness / eccentricity / playfulness to them which I think means you can get away with a touch of diversity in the set. I think [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] would sit really well, and I like that it balances out [name_m]George[/name_m] as another monosyllable to the other girls longer and more elaborate names. I don’t know if your girls get nicknames, but sisters [name_f]Etta[/name_f] / [name_f]Hettie[/name_f], [name_f]Bea[/name_f] and [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] are wonderful to me. [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]?

Best of luck

I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is lovely, sweet classic and it’s a royal name, just like her siblings names are. It has a melodic sound and great namesakes from history.
I’d add a longer middle. [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is such a stunning name, so I definitely love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] the best! Very elegant. Is a second middle not an idea? [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]? I’m sure her older siblings wouldn’t mind. I think since [name_f]Mary[/name_f] is a short name, a second middle is not too much.

Thank you! I think a second middle name would be too much for us, I always think of second names as being more of a southern or UK or royal thing and we’re none of the above and also didn’t do second middle names with our other kids. Appreciate your suggestions!

Thank you! We actually call our kids mostly by their full names, but do sometimes use “Hattie,” “Bea,” “Trixie” and even with our youngest son we sometimes call him “Georgie.”. We use all those nicknames more as occasional pet names for them, not all the time nicknames that we use in place of their names. I’m thinking if we use [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] we could occasionally use “Maisie” as a nickname. Thanks for your input!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is beautiful and so in keeping with your kiddos names.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is such a lovely elegant name, she feels so classic, nostalgic and refreshing. I think [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be a lovely option! I really love her.

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] this name feels soooo old school [name_m]Irish[/name_m]! I actually have great aunts with this name. However I appreciate [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] honours your mother however she is a diminutive off [name_f]Mary[/name_f] so even though us [name_m]Irish[/name_m] folk love all things [name_f]Mary[/name_f] it’s sort of like naming your daughter [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Mary[/name_f]. Therefore I wouldn’t use [name_f]Maureen[/name_f]. Technically you’re honouring your mother through [name_f]Mary[/name_f]!

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is so adorable she has this sweet storybook vibe. I like that [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] honours your heritage and it’s always lovely to use a forever favourite. I do not think there’s any issues using [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] despite the older children not having [name_m]Irish[/name_m] names or no one having an [name_m]Irish[/name_m] surname.

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] + [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] so I would wait to meet her and see which one works for her :sunflower:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is lovely with your kids’ names

Thoughts on your middle choices:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] - simple but sophisticated, elegant and balanced - plus it could give you nickname options like [name_f]Marybeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Mitzi[/name_f]

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] - the sentiment is nice and I enjoy the alliteration but I would probably put this as my least fave since [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] is a variant of [name_f]Mary[/name_f]?

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] - this is beautiful - bubbly, bright and warm with subtle elegance too. I think it goes fine with your kids names :person_shrugging: This is my personal favourite for you

A couple of ideas that popped into my mind while reading:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Eileen[/name_f] (a nod to [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] in terms of the beginning letters, and your mom’s name, with the ending)

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Isibeal[/name_f] / [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Sibeal[/name_f] (Irish variant of [name_f]Isabel[/name_f] (from Elizabeth))

Your kiddos names are gorgeous! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] works perfectly with them :sunflower:

Of yours I like [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f]. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is also very nice, but does feel a bit nun like and classic to me.

I also love the suggestion of [name_f]Marianne[/name_f] ‘Mary’ to give a longer name like her sisters. [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] is one of my favourites and [name_f]Mary[/name_f] ‘Maisie’ is adorable!

Some other ideas:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Matilda[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Estelle[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Isabel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Winifred[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Hazel[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Bernadette[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Lucille[/name_f]

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f]! It’s one of my favourite names - and I like how it gives [name_f]Mary[/name_f] alone (which is so elegant and sweet), but otherwise [name_f]Mimi[/name_f], [name_f]Polly[/name_f] or [name_f]Maisie[/name_f]. [name_f]Mimi[/name_f] could be lovely if you use [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] (or [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] - I probably wouldn’t go Mary-Mary), [name_f]Maisie[/name_f] if you use [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Polly[/name_f] for either. [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my fave with your others.

It’s nice to see [name_f]Mary[/name_f] being used these days  I think it also fits very well with your other kids names. I think the double m with a middle name also beginning with M would be a little M heavy for me.

Some suggestions:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Violet[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Alice[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Grace[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Josephine[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Helena[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Cecilia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Olivia[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Aisling[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Orlaith[/name_f]
[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Sorcha[/name_f]

I am also from [name_f]Ireland[/name_f], so thought I’d throw in some [name_m]Irish[/name_m] possibilities too

Mairin is the Irish/ Gaelic version of [name_f]Maureen[/name_f], meaning little [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

Mairin [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] would be something similar to, but a little different than [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f].

I’m leaning towards [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] as a big familial nod to your heritage and nod to your childhood mom dreams :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Maeve[/name_f] is gorgeous! I just love it. You can’t go wrong with any of these picks, but… this one sings differently to me.

(FWIW, [name_f]Maureen[/name_f] is also an [name_m]Irish[/name_m] name! Another point in her favor! It’s a name in the “Mary” family tree, so maybe a little funny after [name_f]Mary[/name_f] as the first name, but I don’t think that’s very apparent to a non-name-lover.)

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my choice. A beautiful classic.
I agree that [name_f]Mary[/name_f] might seem less sophisticated than [name_f]Henrietta[/name_f] or [name_f]Beatrice[/name_f] but it still belongs to same genre. Perhaps you may consider [name_f]Maria[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Marie[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] to add a little sparkle to [name_f]Mary[/name_f].

I love [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]! That’s a name that will serve her very well in life and is classically beautiful

[name_f]Mary[/name_f] is absolutely lovely, and I love it with your other kids’ names! [name_f]Mary[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] is my favorite of your choices.

Have you considered making [name_f]Mary[/name_f] a double barrel to make it a bit more quirky to match the older sisters’ names a little more? I think you could definitely get away with Mary-Maeve [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f]. Mary-Maeve is too cute! I’d be calling her by both all the time regardless of whether you make it a double barrel or not. So cute!
