We are expecting our fourth child at the end of this month and are still struggling with a name. Siblings are [name]Tenley[/name] [name]Elise[/name], [name]Felicia[/name] [name]Paige[/name], and [name]Calista[/name] [name]Payton[/name]. We like more unique names but understand that our children might not appreciate that so we have tried to give all of them more common middle names. We also want names that people will most likely be able to pronounce correctly the first time they see them. If we have a boy we are leaning towards [name]Corwin[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] but we are at a loss for a girls name. So far we have considered:
[name]Elodie[/name]
Elowen
[name]Arwen[/name]
[name]Eowyn[/name] (my favorite aside from the LOTR association and we would probably spell it Aowyn instead)
[name]Braelyn[/name]
We don’t like how much [name]Felicia[/name] and [name]Calista[/name] sound the same at the end so we are leaning towards a name with N at the end but are very open to other ending sounds. Our last name starts with an L. Ideas? We are really open!
I like [name]Elodie[/name] the best from your list. It seems to fit with your three girls. The other names are hard to pronounce and not very memorable. I would always think… Now what was that girls name again?? And the spelling on the last four is really tough. congrats on your fourth!!
I like [name]Braelyn[/name] from your list. As a teacher it is the easiest for me to pronounce when glanced at. Plus it’s also one of my favorites. My second favorite would be [name]Elodie[/name].
Out of this list I think I like [name]Elodie[/name] the best. Other girls names you could consider:
Everleigh (you could spell it 18 different ways)
[name]Gwendolyn[/name]
Besslyn
[name]Eloise[/name] (Maybe too much like [name]Elise[/name])
[name]Catrin[/name] (prounounced [name]Kay[/name]-Trin- maybe too similar to [name]Calista[/name])
[name]Olive[/name]
[name]Ashlyn[/name]
[name]Marrin[/name]
[name]Jasmine[/name]
I love [name]Elodie[/name] and Elowen is pretty as well. Arwin sounds too masculine to me, I don’t know how to pronounce [name]Eowyn[/name], and [name]Braelyn[/name] feels too trendy for me.
Thanks for the feedback. [name]Eowyn[/name] is pronounced AY-o-win. I find it pretty but I do think it is probably to unique/strange and the only association people will have with it (most likely) is [name]Lord[/name] of the Rings. I wish it didn’t have that strong association because that bugs me about [name]Calista[/name]. People are always saying, “oh, like [name]Calista[/name] Flockhart”. Which I suppose is fine but we didn’t even know who [name]Calista[/name] Flockhart was when we picked the name, we just thought it was pretty. I suppose with less common names people will naturally look for a connection to some thing they know. Unfortunately people have also linked [name]Tenley[/name] and [name]Felicia[/name] with the show The [name]Bachelor[/name], grr. Our [name]Tenley[/name] is named after a close friend, who was named after the Olympic figure skater, [name]Tenley[/name] [name]Emma[/name] Albright. I always find it funny when people say it is a childish name because [name]Tenley[/name] Albright went on to be a surgeon. And my friend [name]Tenley[/name] is working on a post-doc at [name]Harvard[/name] in genetics. I think of it as a strong independent name because of the two people I link it to but I understand how someone could say it sounds juvenile. Sorry for the rambling.
I like [name]Ashlyn[/name], we’ll add that to the consider list. I should have said we aren’t really content with any of the names we’ve considered. I’m really looking for other ideas.
Anyone have some other names we should consider?
Any feedback on [name]Corwin[/name] [name]Elliot[/name]?
I think [name]Corwin[/name] [name]Elliot[/name] fits very well with your sibset-- I think you could [name]Elliot[/name] as a fn too (maybe [name]Elliot[/name] [name]Corwin[/name]?). [name]Elodie[/name] gets my vote from your girls names. I like that your names all have a subtle “L” sound. Here are some other suggestions:
[name]Tenley[/name], [name]Felicia[/name], [name]Calista[/name], and
I really like [name]Elodie[/name], Elowen & [name]Arwen[/name] from your list.
[name]Do[/name] you like [name]Arden[/name]?
Some suggestions:
[name]Hadley[/name]
[name]Delaney[/name]
[name]Delilah[/name]
[name]Teagan[/name]
[name]Regan[/name]
[name]Prescott[/name]
[name]Willow[/name]
[name]Quinn[/name]
Thanks again for the feedback/ideas! We considered [name]Arden[/name]- we both feel like the Ar beginning on [name]Arden[/name] and [name]Arwen[/name] are a little harsh (masculine?) for a girls name. We’ve thrown around [name]Delilah[/name] a few times. It has the “right” feel but again we just aren’t sold on it. My husband is leaning towards [name]Braelyn[/name]… it is a little odd I suppose but I don’t like how it looks when it is written.
[name]Delilah[/name], [name]Elodie[/name] and Corwen fit best with your other daughters names. [name]Braelyn[/name] just seems left out compared to her sisters names. Braeli would fit a lot better than [name]Braelyn[/name].
To me the n ending names sound a little less feminine than your other girls. I know these names are going to be all over the map, but just off the top of my head… [name]How[/name] about:
[name]Cosette[/name]
[name]Evangeline[/name]
[name]Seraphina[/name]
[name]Vivienne[/name]
[name]Marietta[/name]
[name]Penelope[/name]
[name]Thomasina[/name]
[name]Lisanne[/name]
[name]Rosalind[/name]
[name]Isla[/name]
[name]Ingrid[/name]
[name]Joelle[/name]
If you really like the n ending, here are a few more options:
[name]Imogen[/name]
[name]Gretchen[/name]
[name]Joycelyn[/name]/ [name]Jocelyn[/name]
You have two a endings, maybe you could go with another ey to pair with [name]Tenley[/name]. That might make a cute sib set.
We considered an -ey ending since we do have two a endings but [name]Calista[/name] might be [name]Callie[/name] in the future so that’s why we were thinking a name with a different ending all together was a better idea. I agree though spunkiedoodle, the n ending names sound less feminine than the other girls. We were thinking the -lynn ending was probably the most feminine sounding way to end with an n. We both really like the name [name]Seraphina[/name] but don’t like the name/nn [name]Sara/name which is what we were afraid people would gravitate to. Lorilei is the same for us, we really like it but don’t like the nn [name]Lori[/name].
[name]Elodie[/name]- Like this a lot but I think it is about to surge in popularity. Is that an issue for you?
Elowen- Really like this
[name]Arwen[/name]- I know a little [name]Arwen[/name]. I think it’s a cool name
[name]Eowyn[/name]- Honestly, I look at this and I’m not 100& sure of how to pronounce it. I think a lot of people will have trouble with it since it is so uncommon.
[name]Braelyn[/name]- I really dislike this. It looks very trendy to me.
[name]Hi[/name]!
I think you have some really good options.
[name]Elodie[/name] seems like a perfect option in my opinion. It is feminine, like your other daughters names, but also unique.
Elowen, [name]Arwen[/name], [name]Eowyn[/name], and [name]Braelyn[/name] seem very unisex to me.
I’d suggest: [name]Eloise[/name], Breslin(?), [name]Brynn[/name], [name]Gwendolen[/name]/[name]Gwendolyn[/name] as options
For [name]Seraphina[/name], what if you spelled it [name]Serafina[/name] and called her [name]Fina[/name] instead of [name]Sarah[/name]
