I love your childrens’ names! I am in love with [name_u]Teddy[/name_u], and I wonder if maybe you could name him [name_u]Theo[/name_u] instead of [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], so that you could still use the nicknames you like but not sound too strange with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]?
Other than that, I do like [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. Good luck!
Of your list already, I like [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] best. I don’t think them not having an easily accessible nickname will be a problem in the course of daily life. In your home you’ll probably come up with a pet name for him, and out in the world, he can go by [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m].
Some other suggestions:
[name_m]Alfred[/name_m]
[name_m]Barnaby[/name_m]
[name_m]Callum[/name_m]
[name_m]Calvin[/name_m]
[name_m]Duncan[/name_m]
[name_m]Felix[/name_m]

[name_m]Jonah[/name_m]
[name_m]Julian[/name_m]
[name_m]Leo[/name_m] / [name_m]Leon[/name_m] / [name_m]Leopold[/name_m]
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] / [name_m]Matteo[/name_m] / [name_m]Matthias[/name_m]
[name_m]Milo[/name_m] / [name_m]Miles[/name_m]
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m]
[name_m]Nicholas[/name_m] / [name_m]Nicolai[/name_m]
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m]

I love [name_m]George[/name_m] for you! After the baby is born, I doubt you would notice that [name_m]George[/name_m] doesn’t have a “formal” nickname, although at home he could be [name_u]Georgie[/name_u] or [name_u]Jory[/name_u]. In general, beginning initials for me are also not terribly important (especially if you don’t emphasize it), so I wouldn’t be overly concerned about [name_m]Edward[/name_m], and I like the short, snappy sound of “Ted Rite”. I don’t find [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] boring at all! [name_m]Henry[/name_m] seems a little too predictable for your family, but that’s only based on the kids in my area. Like other posters, I might suggest some other underused classics: [name_m]Peter[/name_m] or [name_m]John[/name_m].
I actually love all your options, if I had to rank them I’d probably vote in this order:
[name_m]George[/name_m] (you could use [name_m]Geo[/name_m] as a nn?)
[name_m]Hugh[/name_m] - as a first
[name_m]Henry[/name_m] (with or without nn [name_m]Hugh[/name_m])
[name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] (nn [name_m]Otto[/name_m], love this as a nn)
[name_m]Edward[/name_m] (nn Ted)
But to be fair you really can’t go wrong with any of these, they’re all great!
My favorite of your options is definitely [name_m]George[/name_m]. I know you’ve vetoed [name_m]Theodore[/name_m], but I really feel like it’s fine with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u]/[name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Teddy[/name_u] are not that similar at all. [name_m]Just[/name_m] a thought. Would also suggest [name_m]John[/name_m] nn [name_m]Jack[/name_m].
No matter what you choose, your child will have a perfectly lovely, classic name.
I really love [name_m]Edward[/name_m]!!
I think you are making it hard on yourself by worrying so much about the nickname because it’s like you have to find two names in one. [name_f]Do[/name_f] your kids go by both names equally or just the nickname or full name? If it’s really important to have both then I say [name_m]Edward[/name_m] is best since you like both the nickname and the full name (I personally like [name_m]Eddie[/name_m] too). I don’t think the matching initials are a big deal. I also think [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] is fine with [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]. If you let the nickname go I think [name_m]Henry[/name_m] works well, and it is kind of an informal sounding name with the y at the end anyway.
Seconding the suggestions of [name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], and [name_m]Frederick[/name_m].
Other ideas: [name_u]Everett[/name_u], [name_m]Louis[/name_m], [name_m]Philip[/name_m], [name_m]Tobias[/name_m]/[name_u]Toby[/name_u]
Thanks for the feedback!
[name_f]Sarah[/name_f], the first three kids go by their nicknames 90% of the time. We know that [name_f]Nora[/name_f] and [name_u]Theo[/name_u] sound perfectly fine, but we just can’t do [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and [name_m]Theodore[/name_m] – in part because who knows what the kids will prefer when they’re older. That said, it may be that one or more of our older kids will decide they want to be known by their full name when they’re older, making a [name_m]George[/name_m] or [name_m]Henry[/name_m] less of an “odd one out”.
So hard to decide, but I appreciate being able to run things by this forum!
[name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] and…
[name_u]August[/name_u] “[name_u]Gus[/name_u]” “Auggie”
[name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] “[name_m]Benji[/name_m]” “[name_m]Ben[/name_m]”
[name_m]Gabriel[/name_m] “[name_m]Gabe[/name_m]”
[name_m]Julian[/name_m] “[name_u]Jude[/name_u]” “[name_u]Jules[/name_u]”
[name_m]Nathaniel[/name_m] “[name_m]Nate[/name_m]” “[name_m]Nathan[/name_m]” “[name_u]Nat[/name_u]”
[name_m]Oscar[/name_m] “[name_m]Oz[/name_m]” “[name_m]Ozzy[/name_m]”
[name_m]Sebastian[/name_m] “[name_m]Seb[/name_m]” “Babstian”

[name_m]Silas[/name_m] “[name_u]Si[/name_u]”
[name_m]Tobias[/name_m] “[name_u]Toby[/name_u]”
[name_m]Vincent[/name_m] “[name_m]Vince[/name_m]”
What about [name_m]Henrik[/name_m] with the nickname [name_m]Henry[/name_m]? I also like the idea of [name_m]Henry[/name_m] nn [name_m]Hugh[/name_m].
Oh my goodness I love your taste in names!
My favourites of your options are [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. They are both classic and regal but still feel fresh somehow.
You mentioned being worried about sounding too royal, but I think you should roll with it. [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f], and [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f] are all used by multiple living royals across Europe and have been used in royal families for centuries. [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_m]Henry[/name_m] (and [name_m]Edward[/name_m] too) fit with the feel of your sibset and have similar usage. But also they are so classic and well loved that although some people might think royal it’s not an obvious thing. If you had a [name_m]George[/name_m] and a [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f] for example it would be more notable.
I also think [name_u]Theo[/name_u] would complete your set and it comes with great nicknames!
Much [name_u]Love[/name_u], [name_u]Sky[/name_u]
I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] best with your other kids names, and I think [name_m]Hugh[/name_m] would make a fine nickname for [name_m]Henry[/name_m]. I also really like the idea of [name_m]Oliver[/name_m] [name_m]Thomas[/name_m] “[name_m]Otto[/name_m]” - I’m always up for a non-traditional nickname option.
From your list I like [name_m]Henry[/name_m] and [name_m]William[/name_m] best with the sibset. But I understand your husband’s concern with “[name_m]Will[/name_m] Write” (having said that, my 10yo son has two classmates, both of whom are [name_m]Will[/name_m] W(one syllable) surnames, and it sounds quite nice).
I also really like [name_m]Benjamin[/name_m] and [name_m]Samuel[/name_m]. Tbh I don’t see how they are any more dated than [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] or [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]… all of these names strike me as classic and not tied to any generation. And I can’t think of a single [name_m]Charles[/name_m] not in his 30s or older, so maybe it’s based on location??
Suggestions:
[name_m]Alexander[/name_m] ([name_u]Alex[/name_u], [name_m]Xander[/name_m])
[name_m]Frederick[/name_m] ([name_u]Freddie[/name_u])
[name_m]Matthew[/name_m] ([name_m]Matt[/name_m], [name_u]Matty[/name_u], and could also give [name_m]Hew[/name_m]/[name_m]Hugh[/name_m])
Anyway, best of luck!
I would suggest [name_m]Callum[/name_m]/[name_m]Callan[/name_m], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Conrad[/name_m] or [name_m]Christian[/name_m]
Since your girls’ names start with E, then your boys’ names should start with C.
I heard [name_m]Christoff[/name_m] recently and thought it sounded really great! It has nn potential.
Other C names…
[name_u]Corbin[/name_u], [name_u]Carson[/name_u], [name_u]Cody[/name_u], [name_m]Colin[/name_m], [name_u]Curry[/name_u], [name_m]Calvin[/name_m], [name_m]Callum[/name_m], [name_m]Clayton[/name_m].
[name_f]Queen[/name_f] [name_f]Elizabeth[/name_f] has four children: [name_m]Charles[/name_m], [name_f]Anne[/name_f], [name_m]Andrew[/name_m] and [name_m]Edward[/name_m]. She’s grandmother to the princes [name_m]William[/name_m] and [name_m]Harry[/name_m], great grandmother to [name_m]George[/name_m] and [name_f]Charlotte[/name_f].
What will you do if they name the new baby [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f]??
I was away from Nameberry for a few days and now I see several more replies to this thread – thank you!!
(Care: if the new royal baby gets named [name_f]Eleanor[/name_f], I will probably cry).
They’re all very nice, but I prefer [name_m]Edward[/name_m] with the sibset.
[name_m]Maxwell[/name_m] ([name_u]Max[/name_u])?
